Fairly certain I was told audio code changed a bit in MAME .278. It also makes it fail if you Nahimic installed. To check you can go to Task Manager and look for it in the services tab. It's related to a Realtek Audio driver and causes all sorts of issues in a LOT of applications and should be disabled or removed from your computer all together. Quote
ericg384 Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 Thanks for the reply. I opened Task Manager and checked the Services tab, but I don’t see anything named Nahimic. However, I do have Realtek audio drivers installed should I uninstall those? Quote
C-Beats Posted July 2 Posted July 2 That I can't really say, I know disabling Nahimic doesn't stop audio from working on your computer, but unsure if removing their entire driver suite would stop it or not. Don't want to tell ya to do so and have it blow up in both our faces. Quote
spycat Posted July 2 Posted July 2 The MAME 0.278 sound issue with some setups appears to be undergoing a fix which should be in 0.279. https://github.com/mamedev/mame/issues/13905 By the way, my laptop uses Realtek Audio and sound works ok with MAME 0.278. Quote
Mike747477447 Posted July 4 Posted July 4 (edited) I had the same problem. My temporary fix for games is: Open a game, hit tab for settings, change the audio mixer for the game to point to another source. My audio automatically in 0.278 goes to Real Tek Audio. When I change it to my NVIDIA High Definition Audio source, it works. If someone has a better method, let me know. Or I'll just wait until 0.279 Edited July 4 by Mike747477447 1 Quote
latin625 Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Under MANAGE SOUNDS DEVICES, I did this and it worked for me... somehow! Excuse my clumsy workaround, but it worked and I figured I share. Maybe someone can clean these up. 1. Disabled all the other DEVICES, except REALTEK 2. Launched MAME 278 3. Closed MAME 278 4. Enabled all of them again 5. The MAME 278 started using the default in AUDIO MIXER - REALTEK The problem for me what that I would have to launch each game, then TAB, then AUDIO MIXER, then choose REALTEK. No more. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue. Quote
MadK9 Posted yesterday at 01:44 AM Posted yesterday at 01:44 AM (edited) edit your mame.ini file, find 'sound auto' (around line 329'ish) and change the auto to xaudio2, save and retry. (you need to have DX9 runtimes installed) If you want to use waspi you may need to turn off exclusive mode. Press WIN+R and type control.exe mmsys.cpl sounds press enter. select your sound output device and in the bottom right click properties then the advanced tab. In the exclusive mode settings turn off the 2nd option Edited yesterday at 01:51 AM by MadK9 1 Quote

You might want to use the waspi mode though, as the sound quality is so much better, and its one of the main features of mame 0.278 1 1 Quote
