Starwind Amada Posted July 20 Posted July 20 The other day Launchbox locked up and crashed. Now it won't open. actually, it tells me that another instance of it is running. That's not true. I went into Task Manager and there it was and I hit End Task. But it still says there's another instance running. Do I have to delete and reinstall and rebuild my libraries all over again? Quote
AstroBob Posted July 29 Posted July 29 No need to re-install, a fresh restart should ensure all instances of the app are closed, though if you continue to see that we have more details on it here: - https://feedback.launchbox-app.com/help/articles/0507346-troubleshooting-another-instance-is-already-running-error Quote
Starwind Amada Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 It just happened again. Launchbox is on a standard drive (the C drive) and not a cloud drive or Documents folder or anything. No processes appear Task Manager. The software locked up during use and now won't reopen and the help article is no help at all. I'm not rebooting the computer because that process takes over an hour. This should not be happening and I'm fed up with this. Quote
Starwind Amada Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Nice. NOw I can't delete it because Windows says a file is being used. So now, I can't open Launchbox because it thinks it's already running, I can't install it on another drive because the installer is missing files and I can't delete it because it makes Windows think a file it uses is open. This is unacceptable. Quote
Starwind Amada Posted August 23 Author Posted August 23 Multiple restarts and the problem persists. This is unacceptable. I can't reboot my computer every time Launchbox decides to stop working (which is frequent). This update is garbage and I'm sure the next one will be worse. Quote
MysterNybble Posted August 23 Posted August 23 I'd love to be able to help you out, but you seem to simultaneously being unable to install LaunchBox while not being able to shut it down (even though it isn't running) and you have some other program perhaps locking your files preventing you from doing anything. I'm not trying to be silly; I just don't know where best to start but we'll try 'em all. Please read this with a tone that I am trying to help and hopefully you can respond with a tone that you want help. If you are having trouble during install, when you download the setup and run it, what exactly happens? Screenshot, error messages, or windows event log messages would be useful. You say the installer is missing files? Which files, how do you know? Screenshot, error messages, or windows event log messages would be useful. If you are able to get it installed and it's "software locked up" when/where did it lock up? What screen is frozen? Screenshot, error messages, or windows event log messages would be useful. Or if you're having trouble deleting it, what exactly are you trying to delete and how are you deleting it? Which file does Windows report as being in use? Screenshot, error messages, or windows event log messages would be useful. If you're having trouble having a restart what problem persists? What does it mean for you to say "Launchbox decides to stop working", again, what exactly is happening (or not) when you click on what and how? Screenshot, error messages, or windows event log messages would be useful. Tangentially related but if LaunchBox is not in task manager, it is not holding a lock on file. It is something else. Perhaps anti-virus, or a backup tool, or a cloud sync thing, or ... just anything else. Microsoft PowerToys has a nice file lock checker thing that I use a lot in these situations. Quote
Starwind Amada Posted Saturday at 06:11 PM Author Posted Saturday at 06:11 PM (edited) I was able to reinstall it but it won't open. I double click on it and nothing happens. I tried "Run as Admin" but had the same result. No error message. And I disabled my antivirus but that didn't make a difference. Also it was on the C drive before but now it's on an external one.
