SiriusVI Posted Thursday at 01:08 PM Posted Thursday at 01:08 PM (edited) Hey there, I wanted to use some of my days off to update metadata and media from some of my platforms and I encountered a weird issue with emumovies: Basically, when selecting games inn my platform (e.g. SNES) and choosing "Yes, but do not replace any existing fields or media (recommended)", emumovies takes a very lonng time to seach for and download new media files. I'm talking about leaving the PC on over night and in the morning it's not finished. It's roughly 1.700 games, and I'm only updating Manuals, Music and Video files, so nothing crazy. The problem is only with emumovies, the media from LB Database is downloaded very quickly. When deleting the platform and reimporting the games, or when choosing to replace all metadata and media, then this bug does NOT occur. It's only there when trying to update and choosing "Yes, but do not replace any existing fields or media (recommended)". What's I'm seeing on the progress bar on the top of Lauchbox is that emumovies keeps searching for files, then downloads a few (1-3 files) and then searches again. This process keeps repeating, making the whole process take unbearably long. Any idea why this is happening? Edited Thursday at 01:09 PM by SiriusVI Quote

Have you checked on their forums for any related post? You can also use their EmuMovies Sync tool to check for related issues so you can at least know where the issue lies. Quote

If it were an api server issue, then the issue would also occur when importing a fresh set of roms. I believe that the issue is that Emumovies tries to find out if a file already exists before downloading and that process just isn't optimized. But that's just a guess. Can someone check if they see the same behavior? To reproduce: 1. Select a fairly large set of roms (around 2000), that have artwork scraped. 2. Tools --> downoad --> update metadata and media --> Choose scraping from emumovies (scraping from LB database can be skipped, since this works fine). I found that the video downloads work for some reason, so choose something other than that, like Manuals or Screenshots. 3. select "Yes, but do not replace any existing fields or media (recommended)". Well, I guess I am a little bit of a hoarder, but not the worst kind, I swear. I don't keep EVERYTHING =). The reason I keep these roms is that I consider them separate releases. My approach to 1g1r is to have 1 rom of each cartridge that was released. So, since there was Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, I'll keep all 3. OK, I'll give this a shot, but I still don't quite get why a few games with "+" in their names would hold up the entire scraping process. So I just tried to update roughly 1000 SNES roms excluding the one swith a + in the title. This went through fine. So then I wanted to try the whole set again, expecting emumovies to act up again. Quick update: I tested it with a VPN using a US server, and everything works normally that way. The EmuMovies website loads correctly and LaunchBox syncing/downloading from EmuMovies works as expected. As soon as I use my normal connection from Germany, the website starts acting up again and LaunchBox has trouble connecting to EmuMovies. Direct FTP access still works fine. So this looks like it could be some kind of regional routing/CDN issue rather than a LaunchBox or account issue. 1 Quote

Just to test I've selected to download all media from Emumovies, not just videos. I have selected "Yes, but do not replace any existing fields or media (recommended)", but apparently, there is still much to be downloaded. This takes hours to finish, maybe more than a whole day. But at least it IS steadily downloading without the previously mentioned interruptions, that occured. See here, this is the current state of the download that started roghly 1.5 hours ago: I imagine if I just updated manuals and videos it would go much faster.
