Is there any progress/update on this? I've just purchased the full Android license and starting to import my platforms and ROMs. It's a pain having to re-scan and duplicate all my videos. I'm going to run out of disk space.

Are there any plans to bring RetroAchievements to the Android app?

Is there a way to select the video file location for platforms? I have all my ROM videos already scraped and on my SD card in a videos subfolder for each platform. The filenames are the same as the ROM names so should be LaunchBox compatible. I have successfully imported the platform games from the SD card, so external access isn't a problem - and it's an Odin device so Android 10 (no filesystem permission issues). I don't want to scrape all the videos again.

I raised a feature request. If anyone else likes the sound of it, please vote on the issues/ features list below: https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/6986/android-attract-mode

Is there any update to this? Is Bigbox for Android on the roadmap?

I will post this as a new feature request but thought I'd check first to see whether I've missed something: I need to get all my Batocera ROMs and media into LaunchBox Windows. Therein lies a problem. I have a lot of platforms, ROMs and curated images and videos which I've spent a long time collating and scraping for Batocera. I've imported the ROMs for the first platform (Atari 2600). The ROMs import fine but I'm struggling to bring in the images and videos that I scraped in Batocera. The structure is as follows: ROMs: ./roms/[platform]/[romfile] Images (box front): ./roms/[platform]/images/[romfile]-thumb.png Images (screenshot): ./roms/[platform]/images/[romfile]-image.png Images (banner): ./roms/[platform]/images/[romfile]-marquee.png Video: ./roms/[platform]/videos/[romfile].mp4 I think what I need is some new Batocera import facility where you can bulk import from a platform (or ideally multiple platforms). The import tool would ask where the ROM files are located and also the images and video naming structure. So in my example above, you could say the ROM files are in xxx folder and the box front image is in xxx sub folder with a filename of [romfile]-thumb.png. This would be a great feature for anyone migrating from another front-end to LaunchBox....or am I in a minority of people who have a large collection of ROMs and media which has been curated for another front-end? I checked on the LaunchBox Discord group just now to see if anyone knows a way I can do this without having to reconvert all the files, but thought I'd check here too as we may have different people with different knowledge.

Hi all! Does anyone know if it's possible to set a random "video and play" option in a LaunchBox theme? This is something I really like in ArkOS/EmulationStation on Linux. I think it's called Attract Mode. You press a button on your controller and it will play the ROM videos in full screen for random games across ALL platforms. When you see something you like, you press a button and that game starts up. It's a great feature when you have a large ROM collection. If it's not available, could I suggest it for future development?

I've just taken delivery of my Ayn Odin and have installed LaunchBox. I have a paid Emumovies licence which I've been using with LaunchBox for Windows to download game media. Every time I enter my Emumovies login and password into LaunchBox on the Odin, the app freezes at the point of selecting to test the connection to Emumovies. Is this a bug with the Android version?

I love this! Just a couple of issues which I'm sure are easily fixable (for my setup): I don't get the game image on the main panel behind the game title logo and info. have I disabled something in my settings? Is it possible to default the view for the game to the one you get when clicking the "image" logo; to show the video and images instead of the game details?

I appreciate they are separately developed products but I can't think of any other software I've bought which requires paying for twice on different platforms. e.g. anti-virus utilities, VPNs etc

I know we're on a LaunchBox forum but I'm thinking that Dig maybe a good option for the Odin. It seems that LaunchBox requires an extra licence fee for Android(!) and I'm not sure the Android version is as mature as the PC version. ETA Prime has done a nice setup video for Dig. My only reservation is that Dig doesn't appear to be in active development currently.

I should add that the YouTube videos I've seen so far are using the individual emulator apps directly. E.g RetroArch, Mupen64, Citra. I much prefer a collection approach like LaunchBox as the other portable players use (Powkiddy etc).

I'm considering buying the new Odin for portable emulation gaming. Does anyone have any experience of using LaunchBox as an Android front end? I realise the Android version is somewhat work in progress but this would be ideal as I could port my PC setup including ROMs across into the Odin. If not LaunchBox, would there be a recommended alternative? Finally, has anyone got the Odin and care to share experiences? Thanks!

Interesting. I've just been looking at the Max 2! I think this will suit my needs.. Not bothered too much about higher end emulation for now. Would just be nice to get a portable I can tinker with (LaunchBox?) and play lower end emulation like SNES, Amiga(?), Mame. The Odin will be the perfect all rounder but it's not being shipped yet. I'd like a machine for max £100 for now until I splash out on something more long term at a later date.

That's strange then. The up/down was working but not left and right. So it wasn't that the wrong port was being used. Maybe I'd messed up some settings? I can revisit to check it.

Are there any recommended portable units for a good retro gaming experience? I know the very expensive machines like Odin do a great job. But I'm thinking of something under $£200. I realise such a unit would have a lower end processor and may not run higher end console games. It would be great to see what experiences those in here have had. It would be nice to see what options there are at the lower end and what their upper limits are for emulation. e.g. Player:. XXX Price: YYY Highest emulation console: ZZZ

Sorted. Hoxs64 emulated it fine. I've now set this as my default C64 emulator in LaunchBox.

Apologies in advance for the very "niche" question. I am attempting to play Ghostbusters on Commodore 64 with the ViCE emulator. The controls seem OK in general but on the screen where you choose to equip your vehicle, I can't move left and right with the joystick. Without equipping your vehicle, it isn't possible to progress beyond this screen! I'm using an Xbox One Bluetooth controller. All other controls seem OK (up/down/select). The controller also works fully in other C64 games in the same emulator. I'm running ViCE natively - not through LaunchBox just yet. Has anyone else experienced this - and/or have suggestions for resolving? I will try in a different emulator to see if I get the same results (Hoxs64 perhaps?). Thanks!

On this topic, at what point is it worth (or do you need to) upgrading the ROMs? I have a working full set of 0.198 ROMs with a configured 0.198 version of MAME. I can't see any features in more recent MAME builds to make me upgrade. I have only really started using MAME and had to go through a process of learning all about ROM sets, merged and unmerged, BIOS files, BGFX filters (which are great!), bezels (great again!). My main worry is that some of the ROMs will stop working if I upgrade MAME. Is that a risk? Everything is working as I want, so I don't see any reason to upgrade....or should I?

Great post! So good to know about this. Personally I've gone for the hq4x setting which looks great on a big LCD TV

I bought a used HP Elitedesk 800 G3 35W mini PC. It has an Intel i5 6500T CPU with onboard Intel graphics. It's by no means a recent model and cost only £145 here in the UK ($190). I'm really happy with performance. I've got lots of machine emulators and ROMs running perfectly up to Wii, GameCube, PS1 and PS2. Every game I've tried runs perfectly. Certain Wii games need the resolution turned down to native (eg Mario Kart) and slow down on 2x and above. The performance on more recent consoles is much better than the Nvidia Shield Pro I have which proves that the CPU factor is more important than graphics card(?).

Great tip about importing only the .GDI files. I would never have known about that. I take it that LB doesn't have any inbuilt function to ignore those "duplicate" files when importing Dreamcast ROMs when scanning a folder structure? It means that each import will need to be more of a manual process by pointing at the specific gdi files.
-
Thanks. Is it OK putting the Dreamcast files in sub-folders? Each game comes with multiple files, so I would want them in their own folders.
-
Thanks for that. I'm having the same issue so will try your advice.
