  1. Hi wickerman, no, playlists aren't supported yet on Android. How are you testing arcade filters (I didn't think they were possible at the moment)?

Eventually we'll add support for playlists and renaming platforms, which I think should provide that functionality for you. It may be a bit yet though.

  2. Beta 4 is out now with the following:

    • Fixed manual not always working properly on the pause screen (introduced in previous beta)
    • Fixed profile pics not always showing up for leaderboards and such (hopefully fixed, not positive, let us know)
    • Added key and controller bindings in Big Box for showing the achievements profile
    • Fixed achievements not showing up in other themes

Ok, so that has kinda worked.

I now have lots of space on my internal storage, but the images that had been imported aren't showing up on any of the platforms. Do I need to refresh them somehow?

Hmm, ugh, I didn't think of that. I think the image paths are hardcoded in the XML. Unfortunately the best course of action for the moment is probably to just delete the platform and re-import. When you re-import, it shouldn't re-download any images; I think it should pick up the images that are already there.

Make sure you don't delete *all* the platforms at once though, or it will revert back to the internal storage.

not sure if anyone else is seeing this, or if its related to the LB beta, but when mouse scrolling upward it seems to want to jump back against itself.

One would think it was a mouse thing - but it doesnt happen anywhere else (discord, browser, steam etc).

This can sometimes happen briefly when you scroll down to the bottom without letting the items above load up. It has to do with the dynamically sized boxes and the sizes of the boxes changing when they're loaded up. There's really no way around it without removing the dynamic box functionality, or ruining performance.

  5. I'm puzzled on this one; this is not something I've seen reported before. Does it re-launch the same game when you click on a new game or right after it returns to LaunchBox? How long does LaunchBox display before the game re-launches?

I tried switching to Unified Redux, but still crashes after some hours of running attract mode.

@Jason Carr when you ran your 48 hour tests were your running attract mode with videos for 13000+ games?

me thinks there’s a memory leak after it plays so many video files... all my games have video snaps... 13,000+ of em

Yes, I have something like 12,500 games and the vast majority of them have videos. There's not a memory leak related to VLC video playback. As I've stated previously though, Windows Media Player has gotten bugged out by Microsoft in the latest Windows or .NET updates (irritatingly) and does sometimes show memory leaks, so make sure you're using VLC.

Hello, should this method also work for network storage? It didn't work for me. My system consist of an Nvidia Shield with a Synology NAS server. I'm currently using RetroArch just fine - but I would like to switch to LB eventually. Thank you!

This should work for the Shield's network storage solution, but I've heard different things from different people, and I didn't have any luck setting it up myself. So not exactly sure for the moment...

  8. Hi slightly, currently, it will only switch to the SD card storage if you actually move a platform's data over to the SD card storage. So if you move the folder before you import anything, it unfortunately won't work to move everything over. So if you move everything over now, it should work fine. I do have plans to simplify this in the future.

I’m having the same issue as before.

Ugh, sorry to hear. I have reports from a few other users that 0.31 solved their problems, so we gotta figure out what would be different in your case.

What version of Android is it running?

Has anyone gotten the android version of launchbox to work on chromebook. Looking to buy one for boxing day and would love to retro game on it.

I know it has been run successfully on a Chromebook before, but I believe there was some kind of weird restriction where somehow it wasn't working to use the SD card. I can't say I would recommend retro gaming on a Chromebook, but I do believe it should at least work, though there might be significant restrictions.

  11. FYI, we discovered that the new beta is breaking achievements on old themes (including the Old Default theme and other custom themes). We'll be fixing that with a new beta out tomorrow or so.

The new visual stuff that we've added (the "Retro Score" item at the top of the LaunchBox interface and the game-specific score in the game details) will not automatically be added to custom themes, so theme developers will need to manually add the XAML from the new default theme over to their themes to update them with those, if desired. However, as I stated, we will be fixing the issue with the achievements not working on the other themes, for all themes.

  12. Beta 3 is out now with the following:

    • New Feature: Your retroachievements.org profile with recent activity and a global leaderboard are now available in both LaunchBox and Big Box from the main menus

    • New Feature: Your retroachievements.org "Retro Score" is now available from the LaunchBox interface on the top next to the drop downs; clicking it will also show your profile and the global leaderboard

    • New Feature: You can now view your retroachievements.org score of a given game in the game details sidebar; can be hidden for premium users in Options

    • Improvement: Processes that bring up the progress bar in LaunchBox now will also show progress in the task bar icon as well

    • Improvement: A new HD 1080p version of viking's Colorful 4K video set is now available under Tools > Download Platform/Playlist Theme Videos (Colorful HD); many thanks to viking!
    • Fixed: Corrected an issue where some actions that should not be available while locked would still function if fired from a controller (introduced in 10.7)

Per retroachievements.org, we have plans to add game-specific leaderboards yet, but then that will complete our immediate plans (and finish up the item from the poll). We've had conversations with the retroachievements.org team, and there is a lot of cool stuff planned, but for the moment, this is pretty much everything we can do until they push forward with their new API and other new features.

After updating to the latest beta, all of my box front images were removed.  This is on every game on every platform.  If I edit any given game, it simply knows nothing about the box front images that were previously saved.

Any ideas?  The other images (3D boxes, screenshots, etc) all remain but all box fronts have been forgotten.  My "Box - Front" folders are all still populated with correct image files.

Can you try to go to the view menu and then select the "Refresh Missing Media" option (Ctrl-Shift-M) and tell me if they reappear?

Also try going to Tools > Refresh All Images. If you can though, do one thing at a time and let us know which thing fixes it, as we may have related bug.

    Of course, will do.

Im sure you probably saw, but since you didnt mention it - I feel compelled to re-ask.   Any chance you plan on incorporating these guys?

I like having my titles centered as opposed to justified left.

Another cool option would be the ability to display the titles on mouseover instead of requiring selection since theyre now posited over the covers themselves.  This way you can keep the clean look of the new theme, but still see the title a bit easier opposed to potentially having to select.

As always, thanks for the amazing work :)

I will probably make that center text option work properly in an upcoming beta here. However, the other two are not planned for this theme (I'll try and mark them as only for the old theme or something).

Interesting!  Thank you for mentioning this.  I was just about to say my install is broke then.   Even though this isnt exactly what i meant, I didnt know it existed nonetheless.

it appears that in order for the titles to begin showing on mouseover, you have to keep the first game you mouseover moused-over for a few seconds until it pops up, after that the rest are instantaneous.

i never stayed over the initial title long enough without selecting it or moving on for this to appear.

Though these are more like tooltips.   I was thinking  the black overlays at the bottom.   Still the aforementioned settings seem to have no bearing on the tooltips.  (since theyre centered already thats irrelevant) but id love to have control over centering the text within the black bottom overlay or even optionally omitting its display alltogether now that i know about these tooltips.   (i dislike redundancy ;P)

Apart from personal tastes, its likely going to cause issues having settings that have no affect on one theme but do on another.   I imagine its going to be unavoidable in some cases, but probably best if it can be limited.   People wont know if theyre bugged,  if its their personal install being corrupt, or if they misunderstand the setting all together.  The end result will be forum posts, and support inquiries.

Perhaps having only the relevant settings show based on which theme you have selected.  Unsure how much work that would be.

    Just some thoughts.

Yeah, it's not ideal having settings that only work with one theme, or even worse, a retired theme. Hopefully we can at least mark them as such, but I won't developing a system to hide and show settings based on the theme that is used any time soon, unfortunately.

So I overall like the new default theme (just updated to 10.8 beta to get out of the video download bug in 10.7), but have one minorish complaint: Can we get an option to center the boxes vertically on each row if there are different size boxes?

For example I prefer using the "Front Box Cover" view but have LB to fallback to screenshots and some other entries if there is none. I would prefer this to look roughly like the following:

    Centered.png

This would be rather easy to implement by tweaking the theme, but unfortunately I won't be doing that myself for the new theme.

@Jason CarrFor future versions of launchbox is there any way you can implement adding .pdf files for strategy guides through a folder add. Maybe launchbox/images/super nintendo/strategy guides/Super Metroid (USA, JPN)/STRATEGY GUIDE.PDF and have it just pull from the folder instead of adding them all individually through additional apps, especially because I have many FAQs and Guides. I already have a plethora of guides setup through rocket launcher but would love them to all be through launchbox from now on, hopefully without having to rename them all.

I'll add this to my list of ideas for the next poll @studaloble.

First of all, LaunchBox for Android is super awesome. Finally I can turn my phone into a super powerful portable emulation machine!

    Thanks for developing it.

Second, I'm a big DOS/SCUMMVM fan, I set up LB on my PC with a lot of these old games, but it looks like they're not yet supported on the Android version. Do you have an estimate as to when you're expecting to launch either DOSBox or ScummVM on LB for Android?

    Thanks again! :)

This is definitely planned, but might be a bit yet. I don't have an exact timeline, unfortunately.

  17. That is wonderful to hear guys, thanks. I still have reports of crashes from one other person, but it looks like it's fixed for the majority of cases.

For what it's worth, as far as I can tell these weren't crashes at all. They seem to have been caused by Android devices killing the import process because it was using too many resources.

  18. Hi Vader, more options here are coming, but if you manually move the /Android/data/com.unbrokensoftware.launchbox folder over to your SD card in the same location, and make sure that it no longer exists on internal storage, it should pick it up from the SD card and use that instead.

During your stability testing did this occur for you as well? Attract mode stops doing attract mode after some time and you have to move move the joystick or press a button for it to start again (I then hear the hard drive spin up and then it starts again soon after)

No, I've never experienced that, but I suspect that it's probably due to your hard drive going to sleep, so maybe you can change that in the Windows Power Options?
