Hey! @Jason Carr just wondering how music box is going to take form through launchbox in the future and how and in what capasity? Any plans?

Do you mean how we're going to integrate it? I still have to define that myself so I'm honestly not quite sure. Open to feedback.

I just started Big Box with my own theme (Plain and Simple) and it locked up once the Theme Appeared, force closed the app and restarted with no issues.

I have seen it lock up once myself as well. It's so rare though that it's been a real pain to hunt down. I've been running it on three machines 24/7 since the release and it's only locked up once lol. Still trying to reproduce it with some extra logging that I've added to see if I can fix it and put out a quick fix release.

So I’ve tested the latest version of the plug-in 5 times since my last post.

I let it ran with WMP 4 times with around 10 to 20 hours on each run and it never froze.

I also let it ran once again with VLC and ... it froze. Based on the frozen clock that must've happened roughly 7 hours after I've started Attract Mode.

Here’s how it looks like every time for me when I find BigBox frozen. As I've said it must happen while changing between Views as I always see 2 different Views overlapping each other (enlarge the image to see it)

This is in line with the same types of things we experienced back when we were dealing with all the VLC freeze-ups and developing the VLC engine for Big Box. Most likely it has to do with disposing and/or initializing VLC videos and the order that things are initialized. We have some stupid complicated code in place for the official Big Box code that ensures that everything happens in the right order. I'll share that code with @eatkinola to see if we can resolve it. I would still like to integrate the plugin code with Big Box though. :)

  4. Question for you guys. I've been testing the 7.15 official release for stability on three separate machines for days now. Shortly after I released 7.15 I somehow managed to get it to force close once. However, I've been running it for days since then and I haven't been able to get it to do that again at all. A Windows Update ran on that machine after the force close, so I'm wondering if maybe Microsoft fixed a bug or something. Has anyone seen any Big Box force closes since the official release? Please keep in mind that there are a few themes out there (especially older versions) that do cause their own lockups (due to one of the plugins), so it's important to note what theme and version of the theme that you're running if you do run into one.

Can this be stored with the meta data instead of calculated.  Once I have created a collection and added games i not going back and adding more.  If I did it can just revise the count.

Yes, something like that is planned, though I need to do a bit of restructuring in order to make it happen. It's not exactly easy due to dynamic auto-populating playlists which make it difficult to quickly recognize when they've been changed.

@Jason Carr After further tinkering, I managed to get the community ratings to show up by the download metadata wizard. I made sure not to replace any existing fields and the community ratings synced up. Any chance of an option to sync all star ratings from the database to LaunchBox to get the most up-to-date community rating for each game?

This is already possible just by going to all games and choosing selecting them all, then running the wizard. In the future I would like to make this more of an automated process, but for now it should work fine just to run the wizard with all games selected.

Is it possible to download media and metadata for only one platform? When I try "Tools > Download Metadata and Media" with a platorm selected it downloads data for all platforms.

I had a closer look at the platform metadata and while it might have added some data, there is still quite a bit missing for platforms that have info in the DB - "notes" in particular for multiple platforms and SNK Neo Geo CD is missing everything.

EDIT I tried with all the games selected in one platform, and while it does update metadata only for that platform, it didnt update any data for the SNK Neo Geo CD platform

Yeah, I think perhaps Download Metadata and Media is not always updating platform metadata like it should. I'll look into that. But yes, it's easy to update community star ratings for one platform just by selecting all games for that platform and running the wizard.

Total Game Count shows 0 for Platform categories and Playlist in BigBox but the value is available in Launchbox.  Can you please address this,

    totalgames.jpg

This is something on my list to address, though I am slightly afraid of the performance implications of fixing it.

I downloaded the official release and community ratings are not showing up. I connected the game to the LB database and acquired all the metadata, but the community rating still says none. I did check the database entry on my web browser, the game does have a community rating.

Not sure why this might be, but it seems to be working fine for people. Did you run the Download Metadata and Media wizard?

In Critical Zone, soundtrack audio doesn't work on the game detail page unless I'm starting from the text game list.  (Maybe because the screen doesn't reset between the two views).  Same issue in Retrofresh, Nostolgia, Futurestate, etc.

I see. The way it's supposed to work is that the music is supposed to play once the game is selected, and then when you go into the game details page it should just keep playing. Is the music playing when it's first selected (before going to the details)? Does it stop after that?

Ok when im start Banjo-Kazooie 1.0 (U) at Launchbox it show me "no rom loaded" when im try to open game page and when im start Banjo-Kazooie 1.0 (U) manually it works with achievements. Maybe its a bug ?

Please create a separate post and we can help you out. That's not likely a bug; we'll also need more information on what emulator you're using and your emulator configuration.

I can also report that a few games here and there still have issues.
One example i just noticed would be GBA game Demi Kids (no matter the version). While the achievements work just fine, LaunchBox doesn't display them. The game is set up with the proper LaunchBox Daterbase ID  and all.
Since i have no clue how the pairing is done, i can only take a guess, but retroachievements lists the game as "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children - Light/Dark Version", while in the Launchbox Game Database, its simply listed as "DemiKids: Light/Dark Version" (The proper Name of the [ U ] version, which was used to create these achievements)

    EDIT:
Same with F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (LB ID), which is listet on RA as "F-Zero Advance: Maximum Velocity". From the looks of it, LaunchBox fails to display of achievements when the name in its own database doesn't match the one on RA. Again, just a guess, i have no clue about the actual inner workings. Just giving feedback ^^

Thanks, @Einherjar. Yes, this is an issue, but there's not a lot we can do about it, outside of guesswork. There's no way to identify a game between LaunchBox and Retro Achievements other than via the name of the game. So if we can't identify a match by guessing, then we're basically out of luck. The only other option would be to allow you to manually match them up, which may be a possibility going forward.

In the official release, "prioritize soundtrack over video audio" still does not work for me on the games details page.  It still plays the audio from the video.

What views and themes specifically are you using?

  12. Looks amazing @ray233. I can certainly answer any specific questions, though sadly my schedule would not allow building the theme from scratch myself. Hopefully one of our awesome theme developers will be interested in helping though. :)

@Jason Carr any chance of adding the ability to update system metadata in the next release so that we can make use of off the data that has recently been added? ?

Do you mean platforms metadata? I *think* it will already do this if you just Download Metadata and Media for that platform.
