  1. Agreed on all points @CADScott and @SentaiBrad. If we can update the official rules with those details, I'd appreciate it. I'm all for some hardcore restrictions: - Must be at least 1280x720 - Must not be a real life photo (or unrelated) - Must not be porno (lol) - Must not be just a screenshot (although modern games' screenshots might work well if doctored with the game's logo on top or something) I can update the uploader tools eventually so that the official rules are all right there on the page when you do the uploading.
  2. Ah, okay. So obviously the videos are the culprit. From what I'm hearing I doubt that your system specs wouldn't be able to handle VLC or WMP video playback to that extent, so hopefully there is an issue somewhere that can be figured out.
  3. Yes, LaunchBox loads up its metadata during the "Populating Emulators" stage, so it makes sense that it takes the majority of the time. I will come back to startup performance at some point in the future, but for now we have more important fish to fry.
  4. Yes, it was the "old" version of BigBox.exe 5.10. I've replaced the download now so if you reinstall the current 5.10 version over top the reports should go away. I tested it by installing the garbage on my own machine. Like I said above, every time I compile Big Box I get different results, without changing even a tiny bit of the code. Half the time Big Box compiles and doesn't trip Kaspersky, the other half of the time it does. It's really quite ridiculous; I wouldn't expect the binary results of a compile to be different when the code doesn't change, but apparently it is somehow or other, and Kaspersky throws a fit.
  5. Hmm, shockingly there actually isn't a setting to turn off videos. I guess I just assumed if you didn't want videos than you wouldn't include them in the LaunchBox folders. Obviously one way to turn them off is to just move them outside of the LaunchBox Videos folders (or delete them). We definitely do need that option, though; I thought we had it but apparently not. Try moving or deleting the videos for now to see what kind of performance you end up with. :)
  6. Well, that's true for images and media items. However, for metadata it is not. If you delete the games from LaunchBox the metadata will be gone. However, your images, videos, etc. will remain.
  7. Alright, I bit the bullet and installed Crapersky. Apparently my compilation process sometimes triggers it, and sometimes doesn't. So I just get to lovingly rebuild and rebuild and rebuild until Crapersky is satisified. It seems entirely random, sigh. This just shows how horrible their detection really is. If you trip their anti-virus, just rebuild your application and it'll probably work next time! Facepalm. So at least it looks to me like the issue is fixed now. I'm not really going to enjoy having Kaspersky installed (nor am I going to enjoy paying them for their crap software), but I guess I'll have to just deal with it. /rant
  8. Alright, I tweaked the setup just a tad and re-uploaded it. @Antropus can you scan it and let me know if it triggers anything? I'd appreciate it. https://www.launchbox-app.com/download?g=c579577b-5705-4be6-b791-bc012195c2ca
  9. What's particularly odd about this is that almost nothing was changed between the previous beta and this release. Were you using the previous beta @Antropus?
  10. Well that's good to know, thanks. So sigh, how can I fix the installer. Hmm. Sorry if I was short with you there; nothing irritates me more than this particular problem. I've dealt with it in the past and it makes me want to burn all the anti-virus companies to the ground. I'll play with the installer to see if there's anything I can do.
  11. Antropus said Jason, the latest stable version is being detected as malicious software by Kasperski: HEUR:Trojan.Win32.Generic The update cannot proceed because Kasperski is deleting it every time. I will try to run a web scan on it. Probably a false positive. -Kris Lovely. That software is crap (but I don't know of many anti-virus apps that aren't, frankly). It's not the first time we've triggered a false positive and it certainly won't be the last. Nothing I can do about it unfortunately. You may be able to report it to Kaspersky as a false positive, not sure.
  12. Wow, very nice @SagaXIV, and thank you. @Wattoo does an excellent job, but he may appreciate the help. I'll leave that up to him. :)
  13. Might not be this week. Depends on how quickly I can get the add new game and field modifications in.
  14. I'll take a look at the Sources bug. My guess is that there are no games in your collection that have a populated Source field, so it's choking. Still, it shouldn't crash in that scenario so I'll review. Thanks. :)
  15. Hi @Dal, a couple things. Try switching to the Windows Media Player video playback engine in the general settings. You can also disable animations which may help to increase performance. Also some questions for you: - What are your system specs (CPU, RAM, video card, etc.)? - How many games total are in your collection? If your system was old enough to be running XP, unfortunately it may just be too old to run Big Box smoothly. A decent modern CPU and video card are required in order for it to run smoothly.
  16. My apologies, @Lmagnus87, but that's about as priority as cleaning the bathrooms in my house.
  17. Absolutely. Eventually we'll add full editing for developers and publishers, and I plan to add merging functionality for games, developers, and publishers as well. We'll get to that stuff once I get the Add New Game functionality implemented this week. :)
  18. Bah, we were typing at the same time. That's a good point; I'll change the title. :)
  19. Hi Manny, thanks much for chiming in. My personal preference is to indeed keep it PG-13 as well. We do have some users who want the ability to upload stuff that isn't, but at this point the rules are that nudity is not allowed. Before we ever allow nudity we will implement an age gate and an option to hide those games. We are in the process of discussing and coming up with the rules here: https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/games-database-news-and-updates/moderator-guidelines Thanks!
  20. Great ideas @Cebion. You reminded of a few things too. Are you good with my plan for Multiplayer Modes? We should definitely add most of the fields you've listed above eventually, but of that list I think alternate titles are probably the most important. So that is planned and should be implemented first before the rest. I probably won't try and tackle all of those all at once.
  21. Hi everyone, I'm going to close off this thread so that we can move all discussion over to the new LaunchBox Games Database forums. Feel free to start a new topic there if you have something to discuss. Also, I'm looking for feedback on new fields here: https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/games-database-news-and-updates/new-fields Thanks!
