Sounds like the easiest solution would be to set up a controller-to-key program (like JoyToKey) which can close windows with a controller input. The difficult solution would be for Jason to build a file browser into Big Box. Edit: I'm testing the new build right now, and I love the cleaner image hierarchy... but do you think you could improve the image-import functionality of LaunchBox? Right now you can only add one image at a time (unless you properly rename all the images and import them to the folder manually). Could you make it possible to import multiple fanarts at once (and also maybe add the option to move and rename files instead of copying them?) Oh, here's something which could be a problem: when you change the Platform for a game (for instance, from "PC" to "Steam") the images are not automatically moved/copied to the proper new locations. Big Box is also still incredibly slow with custom platforms (though they at least work). It takes about two whole seconds to browse over the "Mobile" portion of my library (this is currently the only custom position in my library). I don't know if this is because of the game images not moving when I reassigned my mobile games or if it's because I don't have any platform images or metadata to go with "Mobile".

I think the current school-of-thought to getting that fixed is to go into the "Other" tab when you're editing a game's metadata and replacing the Roman numeral with the more traditional number. This way they sort numerically but display Roman.

Originally I was lumping the entire series into a single .cbz file, but they were slowing down my tablet that way. Right now I haven't decided how I want to handle the desktop library, but I probably go ahead and have LaunchBox open a shortcut to the folder, as was recommended. For me it's mainly to serve as a clean way to browse through the collection (like using a public library's book finding software) as I don't actually read them on the PC.

Earlier it was sluggish when I got to a custom platform. I updated to the latest beta, and it has dramatically improved the performance speed. There's still some significant delay when loading custom platform gamelists and scrolling past them in the Platforms menu, but nowhere near the amount of hang that I experienced earlier.

Jason Carr said Per multiple versions of the same game, the LaunchBox-recommended way of handling it is with Additional Applications, so there's only ever one actual game, though I understand the desire for separate box art per source. Unfortunately I think Source is a bit too specialized to use for the media file names. How would I go about telling LaunchBox when an additional application is a Steam version of the game?

Thanks. This would be a tremendous time-saver ^_^

I don't, but it won't be a problem for me to reorganize some of the stuff since I have all the operating systems listed as "Source" now. I'll get to testing it in a few minutes. Edit: Actually, I can just download the copy I e-mailed to you. Go GMail. Edit: So I popped the old .xml in and updated. Big Box is pretty sluggish, but it's not freezing anymore. Thanks for checking that out.

Literally all of my Big Box videos are in .mp4 format and work fine, so I don't think it's a formatting issue.
-
My only guess is that Big Box is looking for something that isn't there, and that's making it freak out.

I did have my library pretty well separated in that manner until I found the Source tag. I own two versions because Humble came with a Steam code, and while Humble is the one I actually have installed, the new method of gathering Steam information fetches uninstalled games as well. Also the fact that the Humble version is DRM-free while the Steam version is locked to... well, to Steam.

Is it possible to automatically download the manuals from this website? http://www.replacementdocs.com/news.php

I think I'll throw a request for including a game's source in its image name as well... For instance, I own Super Meat Boy in two locations: Super Meat Boy (year) - Steam (###) Super Meat Boy (year) - Humble (###) Even though the games should have virtually identical metadata, I wouldn't want the two versions being crossed because I have unique boxart for each. Don't want to accidentally boot the wrong version.

I've sent you the .xml file. Edit: So on the hunch I had earlier, I went and changed all of my custom platforms to just "PC" and Big Box isn't locking up anymore... Going to miss my excruciating organization.
-
In the other thread I did suggest the "Title (year)" method, as you have proposed above. I think that would generally work out fine, and it's a pretty similar structure to what other programs (like Kodi) already utilize. If I have multiple fanarts, will LaunchBox be able to recognize files named "Super Mario 64 (01)" "Super Mario 64 (02)" as being from the same game?

Kriven said Edit: I've narrowed down the problem to occurring only when I scroll over a platform which isn't already recognized by LaunchBox (such as "Mobile Devices", "Windows XP", or "Personal Computer (PC)").

It's now locking up every single time I try to load a platform's game library. Edit: I've narrowed down the problem to occurring only when I scroll over a platform which isn't already recognized by LaunchBox (such as "Mobile Devices", "Windows XP", or "Personal Computer (PC)"). Also, pertaining to nomenclature where multiple games with the same title are concerned, maybe you could insert another piece of metadata? For instance, the folders could literally be: Tomb Raider (199X) Tomb Raider (2013) You could also go with: Tomb Raider (A) Tomb Raider (B) for games which share both title and release date or lack any significant data beyond title.

I updated to the mysterious beta version that went out last night without a word... My Big Box has been having very frequent lock-ups since then. CliveBarker said Hi, so far Big Box mode works faster for me than previous versions, also I am kinda lost and I know this can be silly, but, what are you and Kriven talking about when saying "videos"? I am trying to help with the testing to see if I have the same issue as kriven but I can't find any videos feature in LaunchBox, I even checked the changelog to see if there's any but I didn't find anything, I am lost... The latest beta build includes the option to associate a video file with your games. You can find this option by going to a game in the LaunchBox Manager view (not its official name...) and right clicking any game. Click "Edit" and select the "Other" tab. You will see options for Game Manual, Game Music, Game Video, and Sort Title. Associated videos will play automatically when browsing games in Big Box.

Anyway for LaunchBox to tell Daemon Tools to unmount an ISO once the game is closed? I can just set up a hotkey if not, but this would make BBM way more seamless (if it's possible).
-
Question: is it possible to make LaunchBox open a specific folder instead of a "game"? It would be much simpler to point to, say "Teen Titans, Volume 3" folder than to each individual comic file.

Which emulators can you exit using the controller?
Kriven replied to marcelo.magri's topic in Emulation
Just my two-cents, I use Joy2Key for the majority of my key mapping and create custom profiles for each emulator. This way I can designate different buttons to close different emulators if the need should arise. Most emulators will close with the Alt + F4 combination, so I just map that to whichever I key I want to be my "exit" button (in most cases, the R3 click on my 360 controller). -
I don't mind having the process automated. Also don't think the new folder hierarchy is a problem... I prefer having the Images folders apart from the games folders.

BBM usually only takes about ten seconds to load up. It also ended up seriously dragging my system last night... I had to restart to watch YouTube. I'll try again tonight at some point and let you know how it goes. I know PDF files have a complex structure, but CBZ and CBR are just compressed image files... I imagine they would be easier to work with. Maybe bump support for them and recommend using those formats for manuals until PDF can be implemented? Edit: All that slowdown seems to have cleared up. I guess maybe restarting the computer helped (maybe it's best to recommend computer restarts after downloading an update?)

Downloaded the latest beta, clicked to open Big Box... so far been sitting here for three minutes without any action. Nothing but the spinning wheel next to my cursor. Six minutes: had to ctrl+alt+del and end the LaunchBox process. Trying again. Big Box loaded this time in about a minute, though it didn't automatically become the active window. Music still plays simultaneously with the video when you load into a specific game's menu. Also, I found out that for whatever reason the previous install completely erased my controller settings for BBM, so I had to reset all that stuff to get the controller working again. Question: When you click "View Images" in Launch Box (specifically in BBM) and you get that fullscreen display of the image... is that LaunchBox itself displaying the images? If so, is it possible to, in the future, implement a similar viewer for various documents (PDF, CBZ, and CBR specifically) when they are loaded as additional apps or as manuals? It would be nicer than to load an outside application for handling that sort of thing.

I could up until the last beta update. I was assuming the issue with it not working after that update was me plugging in the controller after loading launchbox, but I can give it another test. Edit: Just confirming that Big Box 360 controls are still not functioning for me after the beta update.
