  1. The animations are cool, but there's a little stuttering... and the fade seems to be giving me headache... ah-hah.... maybe toggles?... Edit: Just editing to add that I am epileptic and that may be why the fades are causing headaches for me. I won't lie though, the animations and fades really make the Big Box package feel like a more immersive thing I just... Don't know... Full on-or-off toggles are probably good, but maybe you could somehow add a slider for the fade so users can adjust at what rate it actually does fade? Re-Edit: Definitely an epilepsy thing.
  2. I did the Wii U metadata the other night. I intended on doing some of the other missing consoles, but... uh... well who can do work with all those games just sitting there?
  3. I can't be like Zuckerberg, I like user customization too much.
  4. Maybe in the future LaunchBox could partner (it would probably spread the focus too thin for Jason to actually be responsible for designing all of this..) with a social network which focuses on uniting an individual's entertainment profiles (Steam, PSN, XBL, etc.). I'm thinking something like Goodreads mixed with Backloggery. A place which can monitor various profiles for achievements, trophies, similar unlocks, and where users can share their opinions of games and movies and books, as well as recommend titles to friends or view a person's library. If this fantastical site were to be created, I can imagine users could easily use LaunchBox to synchronize their current library with the website (like Goodreads can with Calibre) and update their reviews directly from within LaunchBox itself. Now I wish I knew how to make a social network...
  5. Mostly I think it'll look nicer than just a highlighted background. It's really just aesthetic preference.
  6. Do you think you could add an option for a colored foreground to highlighted and selected items? If it isn't much trouble. Basically so that the game box itself will be shaded with a color, instead of just the area surrounding the box?
  7. I'm redoing everything and trying to get a more all-in-one media center. Right now just comics, games, and books because I haven't been satisfied with the alternatives. I also decided that this tiled view is much nicer across both LaunchBox and Big Box than any other kind of "front" image system. Individual comics are stores as Additional Applications while the first issue is actually considered the game. This works well for me because I primarily just want an easy way to look at my collection and think "Oh yeah, I want to read this series" and load the whole lot onto my tablet, but it also creates a clean menu from Big Box, for when I want to read them on my desktop. "Additional Apps" is also a great way of storing specials, annuals, and related books (like artbooks). If anybody wants me to share my tiles and logos, I can upload them somewhere. I don't know how Jason would feel about me posting them right to the forums because the images technically contain copyrighted material (which I didn't think about when I had started my N64 posters thread. I'm sorry), but if he's uncomfortable with that I can host them at my blog. The tiles don't fit perfectly in LaunchBox, but they're close enough for me to feel happy with how it looks. and
  8. I wasn't sure where to put this thought... Prefacing this with: I haven't really taken the time to figure the new Wiki out. LaunchBox uses WMP for its videos and audio, correct? Therefore unsupported filetypes won't play when associated as a game's music or video file? Maybe the Wiki could contain links to good codecs to enable (for example) .flac support in WMP so .flac files will work properly with LaunchBox? That's personally the filetype I tend to use. I would start this list myself, but... I forget which specific codecs I've installed. If somebody knows how I can check that sort of thing, I would gladly hunt down the proper links and get the ball rolling.
  9. In my particular case it's because I'm misusing LaunchBox and mingling games and comics, so I want to create a "Media" filter and quickly add all games to one tag and all comics to another, but I can imagine people who want to quickly tag games by certain composers or operating systems or director would also find it a useful feature. (In trying to accomplish my multi-media browser, however, I did learn that LaunchBox is having trouble moving artwork when you retag a game. Nor does it easily differentiate artwork between rereleases [in this instance I'm having issues with Prince of Persia for PC. I've separated them by "Old" Prince of Persia and then the 2008 rerelease, but the artwork likes to mingle and mix up].)
  10. Is there a way to bulk-edit custom filters? x.x;;
  11. So it's something that would have appeared had I launched directly into Big Box instead of through LaunchBox?
  12. DOS76 said I don't see the Big Box updater. Thank you for saying this so I didn't have to feel like an idiot >.>;
  13. Okay, it updated for me this time.
  14. Same problem on my end.
  15. Along these lines, do you think you could add an option to play an Additional App using a different emulator? That would probably help with organizing cross-platform versions (for instance, the many versions of Donkey Kong or Mario Bros. or Pac-Man).
  16. I like this idea as well.
  17. Those would be nifty as well. I just mainly want all the items which actually launch the game (either this version or another) to be grouped near the top. Although it would be cool to have the "Show in Big Box" ticker available for a few things... like for instance, if I wanted to hide links to folders or to the emulator in Big Box because I know when I'm in Big Box it isn't emulator or folder management time, it would be cool to hide those. I know they aren't additional apps, but the "Show/Hide" ticker would present a few cool things. I also think somebody else had an issue with those menu items. It's probably not easy, but maybe allow users to customize the arrangement order of items in Big Box?
  18. scree said Just come across what might be a bug. If you edit a game and change an image type for example from a fanart to a screenshot then the original fanart image becomes a new screenshot, but the original fanart image is not removed like it used to be. So now if you had four images you now have five. This has been plaguing me all afternoon.
  19. Right now it seems like the preferred way of handling multiple versions (example: handling the Steam version of a game which is already owned on another service) is to add them as an "Additional Application" and that works well, but could a checkbox be added to the "Add App" window that would allow users to designate whether or not that application is a different version of the game? I'd like this for a few reasons, although the primary one is because I'd like all apps designated "Other Version" to be listed under "Play" in Big Box... for example, "Play - Play Steam Version - Play Windows 98 Version". This way such other versions do not become lost in the other applications associated with a game.
  20. The lag in the Desktop Mode is exclusive to when editing Witcher metadata, and it's definitely because of the images. It's also the only place where that kind of hang happens. The duplicate menu options are not Witcher-exclusive, and were happening before I added Witcher to LB.
  21. I recently added The Witcher from GOG, which came with a large number of images (more than 150) which I added to my LaunchBox fanart folder. Wow, LaunchBox doesn't like editing Witcher metadata now. It goes through a process of "Not Responding" for five solid minutes before picking back up and saving any changes I've made. Big Box doesn't seem overly bothered by the large number of images, so the problem is exclusive to the library/manager view. Edit: The glitching of game menus is becoming more prevalent. Constantly having issues with the menu displaying "Play" multiple times, among other things like "Stop Music" or additional apps. Also, suggestion: add a marquee effect to Additional Applications whose titles are too long to be fully displayed in the list? It happened again. This time I took a screenshot:
  22. Is this wiki strictly for LaunchBox performance and operations, or can it also be used as that mythical metadata database for games and platforms?
  23. Filling out information on a predetermined form to better serve the world? I can do that.
  24. Maybe in the future LaunchBox could support its own sort of JoyToKey or Xpadder equivalent native functionality? Custom control setups for each controller type and on a per-game basis would be majestic (and far from happening in the present, I know).
  25. Yesterday I was messing around in Big Box, just showing off how the videos worked to my siblings, and something happened. I use the DKC trilogy for testing... and whenever I wanted to go from the platform menu to the DKC game menu, first Big Box would flicker to Doom, then shift into Donkey Kong Country. However, the highlight selector would not move and selections were duplicated. Play Play Stop Video Stop Video View Images View Images like that. It did this for all three Donkey Kong Country games until I exited LaunchBox. It hasn't done it again since.
