Just getting into the holiday spirit...
-
It does this, although not immediately. Associate music with some of your games--you can play it from their menu.

I added an "Applications" custom filter to do something similar. It only has Chrome right now, but I plan on adding more applications very soon. It works well for me, this way... I'm just going to move most of the application installs into the LaunchBox file structure to make them portable.

I was going through and adding the individual staff members for various games using the Custom Fields tabs with the system "Position" as the Field and "Name" as the Value... but I found that my filters were soon overrun, which I don't want. So my request is to add a page in the editing window for "Staff" which is essentially set-up the same as Custom Fields, but are handled differently by the LaunchBox system. What you will find on the left-hand menu would be a simple filter called "Staff" which, when clicked, lists all of the individuals by name. When you click on a name, like "Shigeru Miyamoto" Launchbox will refresh to show every game which they have worked on. Here's the big change. When you click on "Arrange By" instead of seeing the usual fields ("Platform", "Rating", etc.) you will see a list of positions associated with the "Staff" tag ("Director", "Producer", "Programmer", etc.). In that way you can first choose the creator you're looking for and then to sort the games they worked on by what their position was for that project.

JoyToKey (there are other programs... XPadder seems to be popular). Make a profile associated with your PDF reader and your primary controller and go to town associating various keys with button inputs. You can even assign key combinations (for example, Alt + F4 can be assigned to a single button) and mouse inputs (for programs like this I sometimes assign the mouse to the right stick with the left click being clicking on the stick).

I found out that you can achieve this result (of adding multiple values to the same field) by adding the field twice in the "Custom Fields" menu for a game... do you think this would have a negative impact somewhere down the line, or is this a safe method?

Forgive me if I've asked for this before--it's something I've definitely been thinking about for a long while--but do you think you could add some kind of keyboard/controller toggle for ignoring and reapplying sort titles in both LaunchBox and Big Box? I ask this because I personally like to have things sorted with their franchise, as I would if I were displaying things in a tangible shelf (for example, I have Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island sorted as "Yoshi's Island 1" and Yoshi's Island DS as "Yoshi's Island 2" simply to keep that franchise together [Yoshi's Story is allowed to sort as itself because it's kind of a spin-off in that it doesn't feature the traditional formula...]), but I also sometimes forget where I have sorted things or (more frequently) because I share my media library with my siblings and girlfriend, it might become frustrating for them to have to navigate my particular organizational fetishes. So all I'm asking for is a key to quickly toggle between a Sort Title/True Title preference.

I just tried out the new view, and I'm glad it's there :D Hopefully the ability to fill in fields just by double-clicking on them in List View will be added eventually? That will certainly make editing metadata much more efficient. 3 - A way to display steam (or game) banners on the list view. Like the Dolphin emulator does. But thanks a lot. In regards to this, maybe a "Microbanner" image category could be generated? "Microbanners" would have to be some uniform size, but once designated could replace or precede the titles in the list? An option to "Prefer Microbanners to Titles" or "Use Microbanners with Titles" could be added. I am also experiencing the issue of sort order being changed to "Genre" when leaving List View. Also, if I right-click the top row in List View (I was trying to see if I could hide metadata fields) I received this error: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index at System.Collections.ArrayList.get_Item(Int32 index) at System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewRowCollection.get_Item(Int32 index) at LaunchBox.Controls.ListGamesControl.grid_MouseDown(Object sender, MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.DataGridView.OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseDown(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.DataGridView.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

I primarily use the beta and that's it, but I also regularly duplicate my LaunchBox folder to another computer and turn off the auto-updates... so I have that backup if anything awful happens.

Thank you muchly :D

When filling in the "Developer" section, for example, you can use a semicolon ; to indicate multiple values for that field... I can't seem to get multiple values to work for Custom Fields though. Is this not an option?

Take your time on bug-squashing and optimization. Anything that makes LaunchBox run more smoothly is a win in my book.

Mock-Ups first: Basically: Clear Logos replace titles whenever applicable. Now includes a drop-down menu to switch between "Details" and "Additional Applications" (and maybe other things like Fanart?). Star ratings moved up to hang with "Favorite" and "Edit" (my original mock-up included the ESRB rating there as well, but it got a little cluttered that way). Option to hide "Additional Applications" from right-click menu (but to prefer that they display on the right menu bar instead) so as to declutter the right-click menu for items with large amounts of additional apps.

I like Dolphin View... I can see that being useful.

Since the hierarchy transition for handling images, LaunchBox has had some major problems when games exist for the same platform with the same title (which is a pretty big issue for PC games...). Before it seemed that renaming the images with the release year of the version worked well enough to help LaunchBox keep the games' distinct, but this isn't working anymore. I'm also still having trouble with images not moving when you change a games' platform (for instance, from PC to Personal Computer). This is minor for the moment, but could be problematic in the future. I think dumping the entirety of a platform's associated imagery into large folders is probably the cause of these issues... For my current library I could easily work-around the issue by (reluctantly) using custom filters and creating a distinct platform just to handle duplicate titles, and that's probably what I'm going to end up doing, but I think the image structure should probably be looked at again. Another problem with the current structure is how difficult it has become to add images in large quantities. Before you didn't even have to rename them, you could just drop the images into the appropriate folder. This isn't the case, and unfortunately LaunchBox doesn't like Windows bulk renaming tool, so you either have to manually rename each individual image or add them via LaunchBox one at a time. I know I was an advocate for image restructuring, but the old format was definitely not without its merits... My primary issue with the old format was the bizarre naming scheme which made it difficult to navigate. I have some suggestions... I think the cleanest solution would be to allow users to point at an image folder on a by-game basis if they should choose not to utilize the traditional LaunchBox image folders for a specific title. In this way I could create distinct folders for both versions of, for instance, Tomb Raider and direct LaunchBox to them. That would be the easiest solution to integrate, I think. The long fix involves more work and another restructuring... And a blend of the old image format with the new. Keep the platform-distinct folders, "SNES" "PC" etc., but instead of within them having "Front" "Logo" "Banner", you have folders for the titles followed by their year, "Earthworm Jim (1994)", "Tomb Raider (1996)", "Tomb Raider (2013)". Individual images titled "Front", "Back", etc. should be within these folders, instead of dumping all Front images into a large Front folder. In this way you keep the cleanliness of the current format with the ease-of-use of the old format (the ability to just drop in picture files without renaming), and also better handle duplicate titles. Unfortunately the way images are currently handled means that users have to figure out their own work-arounds for instances such as this. Don't know if that's preferable.

This'll be great. Thanks :D

That would be awesome :D I didn't think any versions were compatible with XP.
-
I recently acquired an older computer that I plan to use for older games instead of dealing with the headache of compatibility. But... I'll dearly miss my beloved LaunchBox. Does anybody know of any decent alternatives which are compatible with Win XP? Keep in mind that I'll be primarily using this computer for 95-XP games and not for emulators, so I don't need anything with a particularly heavy emphasis on emulation.

LG explains why you want HDR in your next TV (also, a 'UHD Roadmap')

I just upgraded from SD to 720p last summer; TV evolution needs to chill out x.x -
I don't see much point... I can just dual-boot linux on my primary gaming PC for any games that don't have Windows compatibility.
-
In that case, maybe creating a shortcut to the folder and using that as the game file would work?
-
Did you accidentally export them?

Maybe you could ask Byuu directly? He probably doesn't know very much about LaunchBox, but he seems like a good guy from when I've seen him post. Maybe he would be willing to look into the problem and offer some suggestions.

Editing metadata can be a slow endeavor made even more slow by having to go through the process of clicking "Okay" -- Wait -- Right-Click the Next Item You Need to Edit -- Wait -- Repeat. It would speed things up tremendously if the bottom of the metadata edit window had "Next" and "Previous" buttons which would both save the current metadata changes and load into the metadata window for the next item in the game list.
