  1. Curious if I'm saying it correctly.
  2. I'm sorry, I don't have experience setting up a trackball for emulation, you'll probably want to make a new thread specifically for it.
  3. I've heard of Tycho and Carpenter Brut, but not some of those others. My path to Synthwave feels unusual. I was way into The Orb, Boards of Canada, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method in the 90s, then got into more Drum and Bass (Sub Focus, Evol Intent, Mayhem, Pendulum), then more melodic, bass-heavy stuff like Lusine, Bassnectar, Sasha, Cutler, but now I'm back to loving those soothing 80s synth chords. Well, at least as it comes down to electronica/techno.
  4. Is that what it's called? I'm pretty terrible at identifying genres.
  5. I thought I would start a thread for discussing audio setups. What do you have? What do you want? What do you like? I'm not talking about specifically those that buy $12,000 headphones or believe they can hear frequencies beyond that of dogs, just people that enjoy pursuing auditory excellence in one way or another. Could be relative to gaming, music, movies, whatever. For my part, I own some higher-end AV equipment and speakers (relative to budget, I suppose), but try to buy closeout stuff or find good deals. We're doing some home renovations, so my home theater and listening room are non-existent at the moment, but I still try to work with what I've got. In my office - where my primary gaming computer is located, I've got an older Yamaha RXV863 powering Definitive Technologies BPX speakers and a Rel Q201E sub. It took a while to find a configuration that provided a good sweet spot for listening relative to my seating position in the room, but it works well for most music and games I play. In the current living room which has a more open design, I had to opt for displacement over refinement to get something that worked well. In there I've got another stereo setup in lieu of a full surround setup. Yamaha RXA3000 powering two Definitive Technologies BP7002 towers and an older Klipsch 12" sub. This setup is connected to our Kodi PC, Xbox 360, WiiU, and the N64 and is primarily for watching movies and TV, but when I'm home alone, it's where I listen to music... really, really loud. Scares the kittehs. My arcade machine is less impressive, but consists of the TV speakers (Sony FWD42PV1 speakers) and a Rel Q108 sub. It's loud and clear enough, though, to feel the punches and articulate all the bleeps and bloops I love to hear. I may eventually incorporate a proper amplifier and some better speakers, but it's very low priority. The home theater used to be the RXA3000 powering four BP7002 towers, two BPX presence height channels, CLR3000 center, and a couple subs, but the future theater will be much more robust. I'm planning on building most of my own speakers and my own subs. It should put anything I currently own to shame as well as make me prematurely deaf.
  6. True, but then I would have to remap everything else again. Haha, I can't win. I think I'll explore using a standalone emulator for the N64 until some other method of configuring RA arrives.
  7. Thanks all the same. It's been my biggest RA peeve for a while. If the toggle option worked as (I) expected, then it would be perfect. Alternate between REAL C-button mappings and Right Analog mappings.
  8. Love the K400 - I've got a couple of the older ones as well. The batteries last for YEARS even with daily use.
  9. Anyone down with Perturbator? Here's a small playlist of some 80s-esque artists I listen to that includes stuff by Perturbator, FM-84, Com Truise, Gunship, Timecop, Miami Nights, etc. https://music.amazon.com/user-playlists/36ea6642836743e9880c59efa51aa2ccsune?ref=dm_sh_a7e6-5dc5-dmcp-b5e1-95cfa I've thought about integrating some of these tracks into my Big Box attract mode.
  10. Thanks @neil9000 I had totally forgotten to remap controls via the Quick Menu instead of the primary input menu, so that explains the control remapping issues I was having. OK so the second part of my issue comes down to this new controller that I bought. http://a.co/bz1Vdy7 It has 16 buttons - most importantly it has SIX face buttons instead of the four that the RA Retropad abstraction layer is designed for. The simple reason that I bought this was to emulate every controller - one-size fits all, basically. A big part of emulation for me is muscle memory. I really struggle to play N64 games and Genesis games with only four face buttons and two buttons mapped to triggers/bumpers, I just can't do it. The same is true with many arcade fighting games. With this controller I can - theoretically: Genesis X-Y-Z A-B-C N64 B-CL-CU A-CD-CR I have successfully remapped the RA core GenesisPlusGX into having the proper 6-button layout, so now I can kick major butt in Streets of Rage 3 using combos. It still required a 2-step abstraction conversion to get the L3/L2 buttons to the Z/C positions. The N64 configuration in RA (GlupeN64 and MupeN64) on the other hand wants to combine C-buttons and one of the analog sticks and does not work well with this controller. Either that or my small brain can't process the two abstraction layers to get it working right. If I use a standalone N64 emulator outside of RA, then I can just map buttons by pressing buttons and everything works as expected, but then I lose out on many of the RA core options for display and audio settings. Why doesn't RA have a auto-config method that prompts you to select each button relative to the NATIVE controller instead of the Retropad?
  11. Sorry to necro my own thread, but I'm going to lose my mind if Retroarch keeps messing with me. I made the mistake of replacing my Xbox 360 controller with a new 16-button controller and RA exploded and wants to eat my soul. The new controller is amazing in the limited testing I've had with it, but the retropad configuration won't let me utilize it properly. There also seems to be some issue with the config files for each core saving with the wrong core somehow and all controls just get worse every time I try to fix it. LOL I'm losing the battle. How does one create separate config files for each controller and core that load appropriately and don't get overwritten?
  12. Love the clean look. Get's the point across while still looking like a comfortable room for any occasion. Well done.
  13. New updates, new video, new images. Got a new plasma monitor...
  14. Finally used some proper capture software to get it. Retroarch/Mupen. https://youtu.be/kOiOj1m4LLs
  15. Just updated to 1.3.6 today to try this. At first it crashed on me, but then I read the instructions and it worked fine. A few games seem to be operating just fine, but some others in my collection (WM2K) are completely broken. Pre-alpha, indeed! As I understand it, they're going for bit-perfect emulation, not enhancements (resolution scaling, frame rate improvements, etc.) like Mupen normally delivers. It would be nice to have both, but it will be a while before ParaLLEl reaches beta, let alone a major version. I was just happy to see some of the Vigilante 8 menus improved... but the in-game performance is terrible. It's too bad that NVIDIA only provides Vulkan support for the 600-series and up and AMD only the 7000-series and up. I'd love to see my older GPUs get some Vulkan love.
  16. I've got maybe 40 true arcade titles across several platforms (Namco, CPS, etc.), but the scrapers only seem to find posters or completely varied cabinet images. The result is a terrible mix of artwork that I'm not sure that I have the patience to manually sift through. I realize some of you have hundreds or even thousands of arcade titles. What is the solution to getting a clean arcade menu with beautiful, uniform images for each game? Title screen screenshots? Clear logos? I need some inspiration.
  17. I finally got my custom wrestlers and belts transferred from my N64 memory cartridge to the PC and integrated it into Retroarch. Keep in mind that these saves are almost 17 years old! Now My friends and I can relive the amazingness of WM2K via Big Box! https://youtu.be/2alw3qR5Sg0 (I recorded the video off the TV... sorry for the poor quality) Anyone else play this game? Love this game? I know that WWF No Mercy is more popular, but my friends and I prefer WM2K due to the time invested in our characters.
  18. My experience with many front ends (I suppose computing in general) is that you want a triple threat: 1. High clock speed CPU 2. Large quantity of RAM (8GB if using 64-bit 7/8/10) 3. High read-performance storage (most SSDs) I'm not sure if it's irony, but my primary emulation PC is overkill for all my emulation needs (it's even working great for Cemu), can play most PC games very well, but still struggles from time to time with FE. :/
  19. Some very interesting posts over there. I'll have to see if my display allows 3840x480, like this: http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Display_FAQ#240p.2F480i
  20. It's my fault for not being clear. I'm already playing on a CRT, so I'm not concerned about scanlines - fake or real. When I was talking about spending money to get them, I was referring to the many HDMI and RGB mods to physical consoles as well the external HDMI processors that people buy. Not paid software shaders or anything like that. If I can summarize better: I use BigBox --> RetroArch for all my emulation needs on a Sony CRT running 1080p. I don't want to simulate scan lines or have any blended pixels. So ultimately it sounds like my solution is to run 4x integer scaling, correct? 1:1 = 240p 2:1 = 480p 3:1 = 720p 4:1 = 960p (letterboxed on 1080p) Sounds like it. Thanks!
  21. I've been watching a few videos courtesy of My Life in Gaming, the RGB Masterclass series on YouTube. Anyway, it got me thinking about the rendering resolution of games and scanlines, specifically 240p games (NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.). Technically speaking, these games only have 240 lines of resolution, so why do all emulators fill the lines in between with additional colors, whether via linear or nearest neighbor processing? People spend a lot of effort and money putting scanlines back in via shaders, but wouldn't it be simpler to not artificially add lines in the first place? Are there any emulators that do this?
  22. Don't these forums sometimes interpret spaces as underscores or vice versa? @Jason_Carr EDIT: Nope, guess not. Sorry for the necro-thread.
  23. Jason Carr said @nathanddrews, that is an oversight that I never went back to add. You're right, there is currently no way to view all your games at once. I do have it on my list but I'll see if I can bump it up. :) If it's already on the list, that's good enough for me. It's not high priority.
  24. garbanzo said You can create controller remap files and load them when you launch games. It takes some work and it's not really well documented, but I did manage to get it working. Take a look at the help files or online. Will do. I find that I screw up quite frequently due to the way RetroPad assigns ABXY (SNES style) compared to the 360 controller. I think I'm going to remove all my controller profiles and just stick the to default for now. The trickiest one is MAME, which likes to reset the game or run diagnostics when you bump the triggers or press the thumbsticks down... not ideal. So I'll put my energy into getting those controls more refined.
  25. DOS76 said I never use the all filter so I opened BigBox and I don't see anyway to access the all feature... *snip* ... (bringing me to a grand total of 17803 total games)... You and I have very different goals. If I had as many games as you, I wouldn't want to see them all together either! :D My collection is limited to about 150 games. For me, it makes more sense to see everything at once. DOS76 said Your last item you mean like a slideshow with intervals (either based on time or a specific amount of games that have been scrolled through) were the image would change to different Nintendo Logos maybe a Famicom logo and so on, that I don't think is currently possible and would probably take some effort to implement. I think you misunderstood. As I go down the list of ALL games, I'd like the NES logo in the top left to change to the Genesis logo when I highlight a Genesis game, SNES when I highlight an SNES game, and so on, just like the text/video/sound/images change on the right side. It would change based upon the game that is highlighted. It's a "nice to have" feature, but only in the context of an ALL games list option being available.
