So is there not currently a way in BB to quickly switch between platforms and playlists other than going to the options menu? We definitely need this to be mappable to a controller button if it's not currently (and it doesn't seem to be unless I'm just blind).
-
Yeah that's been my experience with it as well. It's kinda neat if you have no other options and are willing to poke at it for a while. I've never been able to get it to look as good as an equivalent RA shader or MAME HLSL/GLSL though. I do like that you can use it on a lot of different stuff though; that's definitely a feather in its cap.

Alrighty. Rock on bro.

Again, there will be instances where they're not going to work anymore. "Per-core configs" doesn't even exist in the UI anymore. It was deprecated in nightlies a while before even 1.4.0. https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-1-4-1-major-changes-detailed/ Control remapping is split out as well into core and game remaps. They work much the same way as overrides (change your controls and save a core remap or game remap) but are independent and can be used in conjunction with overrides.
-
Yep... Plan on staying on 1.3.6 forever then? You might as well get started. Pre-1.4.1 configs don't work in a lot of cases with 1.4.1+
-
That's exactly how overrides work though. It just creates a file for the changes that you make (which could be a shader change or anything else). If you open one up it'll only have "video_shader = [whatever]" and or anything else you change. Just takes a second to save and they're loaded automatically.

As far as "which one is best" it's a matter of personal preference. CRT-Hyllian Multipass is the one I use for pretty much everything. Other noteable ones are CRT-Hyllian Glow, CRT-Easymode Halation, CRT-Royale, and CRT-Royale Kurozumi (this one is in the "cgp" shader folder, not "crt"). Hyllian Multipass and Easymode Halation look good even without integer scaling, the others not as much. I've got some examples of quite a few of them in the thread below. I recommend downloading the zip I attached in that post and looking at them that way. Some of the image previews don't work right in the post and they have to be viewed full screen anyway otherwise they look weird.

You can also create per-core and per-game overrides for things including, but not limited to, shaders. Some shaders look good in some scenarios but bad in others depending on the type of content. If you decide you want all PSX games to use X shader, go into the Quick Menu and tell it to save the core override. If you decide that you want a specific PSX game to use a different shader from the rest of them, go into the quick menu and save the game override. It'll prioritize using them as Game Override > Core Override > Base.

Watching the live stream... Dammit Jason now I'm gonna have to make new clear logos (and maybe banners?) for all the playlists... JEEZ. #firstworldproblems
-
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with that... the settings adjustment I put in that first post doesn't seem to do anything anymore... I went through and tried changing a number of the passes and it didn't seem to have much if any impact on it.

I've been using CRT-Hyllian Multipass lately. I like CRT-Hyllian Glow but I've found that it doesn't do too well with non-integer scaling in most cases (which is generally what I'm using because I'm on a 1080p monitor) whereas Hyllian Multipass looks great even without integer scaling. CRT-Easymode Halation is good for that as well. Hyllian is also extremely lightweight which is nice. Yep. In the quick menu go to the shaders section -> glsl shaders (certain things aren't compatible with cg shaders, like Glupen64) or slang shaders if you're using Vulkan -> CRT and then just mess around with them. Shaders are very much a matter of personal taste.

@Charco What video engine are you using? If it's VLC try switching to WMP.
-
Well, like I said it's not out of the question - I have these all saved as individual projects so I can still pull them back up and strip it out. It's more a matter of 1) I've got multiple BB media projects on my plate already that have to take priority and 2) personally I think they look better this way. They were made specifically for CityHunter, which has a kindof cheesy 80's cyberpunk aesthetic. It doesn't get more much more 80's than a crapped out VHS tape you recorded off TV, spilled some RC Cola on, and stepped on once or twice after getting a bit overzealous with your Thriller routine.

Holy crap it works! 10 launches all perfect! Great find @Sithel!

I'm not sure how much of this is relevant, but for comparison purposes: Windows 7 / 64-bit i7 4770k Nvidia GTX 780 32GB RAM Aero is enabled 1080p desktop resolution Using Nomousy with Demul Using Demul 0.7a (I think it's the one dated "22.12.2015") Using gpuDX11 video plugin in Demul

Thanks! Still working on the 32X one. I had it basically done with Doom but wasn't entirely sure if I liked it or not, so I tried it out with Blackthorne too. I'll probably just end up posting both.

Good deal. Directing an additional app to the emulator .exe itself and using the appropriate command line paramaters/rom path works fine in the interim - it definitely confused the hell out of me for a few minutes there though haha

What video engine are you using? If you're on VLC have you tried switching it to WMP?
-
Hmm, interesting. I do use nomousey and I believe @keltoigael does as well. I do use it with CCS64 as well though.
-
How many launches did you test? It doesn't always behave the same way.

An interesting tidbit that may or may not help diagnose the problem... I've been in the process of auditing my arcade platforms for the last few days and I've been converting some stuff over to RA's MAME core. Curiously, there are a handful of games that all exhibit the same unusual behavior and they're typically double/triple-screen games like Darius and Darius II. For whatever reason, these games will cause the screen to flash for a moment when booting, seemingly due to the weird resolution, and then afterwards it'll show the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen (which is weird for RA). If you boot these games in Big Box using RA MAME they exhibit the exact same sound problem as Demul; and RA is normally perfect for me. The specific games I've encountered that exhibit this behavior are: Cotton Boomerang Darius (triple screen game) Darius II (triple screen game) Die Hard Arcade GP Rider (double screen game) Outrunners (double screen game) Warrior Blade (double screen game) They work perfectly fine in say MAMEUI, but it got me thinking that maybe the Demul issue has something to do with resolution switching? It does start windowed and then go fullscreen. CCS64 does too though and it's working fine in Big Box currently.
