Here's something interesting... it's been over 4 hours and now all videos have stopped playing. No video previews for each game and no videos for the platforms. It's just black. But it's not locked up. I can still navigate through the menus. I'm using the Unified Refried theme, and I'm still using WMP for the video player.

Interesting, are you using Windows 10 or 11?

Good question. I remember changing it in LaunchBox, but honestly, I can't remember if I shutdown LaunchBox first, or started BigBox from the LaunchBox menu. I'll give your suggestion a try.

The VLC and WMP settings in LaunchBox and Bigbox are 2 different settings and one does not affect the other. In order to change to WMP in BigBox you have to change it in the BigBox settings and vice versa if you wanted to change to a different media player in LaunchBox you have to change it in the LaunchBox settings.

Mine freezes up within 30 minutes booting directly into attract mode. I tried changing to Windows media player but still the same issue. I rolled back to 13.18 and so far no issues.

Just curious, did you exit out of BigBox after changing to WMP? Then tested again after a BigBox restart and was having the same locking up issue? I have read elsewhere to shutdown BigBox after changing the media player and restart.

Thread topic sort of says it all, in version 3.18 on my dual driving cabs the attract mode could run all night, still be going the next day. Since the update a few hours ago, after multiple reboots and full shutdowns, attract mode maybe lasts 5-10 minutes then locks up, on both computers. Which are Windows 11 for what its worth.

Are you using VLC for your media player in BigBox? Try changing the media player to Window Media Player and I bet it solves your problem. I have the same problem along with other users and switching to WMP fixed the problem.

  5. I tested out the new beta with the VLC updates with the default theme but unfortunately BigBox is still freezing/locking up while in attract mode with VLC but not WMP. Not sure if the other testers are having the same results or not but just wanted to report in.

  6. I have determined that my freezing/locking up issues while in attract mode is VLC. I know VLC is the recommended one to use but I have been using WMP for over 24 hours without any issues where as while using VLC BigBox would freeze within a couple of hours.

  7. I am getting the same issue as well that @Fursphere mentioned about BigBox freezing/locking up while in attract mode in the 13.9 betas. I have not narrowed it down yet if it is theme specific or something involving the ThirdScreen marquee plugin. I did not have an issue before 13.9. I'm gonna try to do more testing however.

  8. I can confirm and had the same issue that @dragonkoh had when I had the ultrastick 360's in my cabinet exactly as he was describing. I tried different troubleshooting steps for hours on end and could never figure out what was wrong until it drove me so mad that I ended up replacing them with a different less sophisticated joystick and problem was solved. I did not want to however because having the U360's in the cabinet had great versatility and functionality of changing the maps from 4-way, 8-way and analog and were way better than the joysticks that I am using now. They only acted like that and had those weird issues with BigBox just like he said. I even emailed back and forth with the developer of the joysticks and he even sent me a new circuit board for one of the joysticks to see if it solved the problem and sadly it did not.

There seems to be some issues with RetroAchievements again.  I usually scan my games weekly so anything added on the site is populated onto my list on LaunchBox.  2 days ago, I did a scan  and many of my games that have been detected are no longer detected.  Over half of my games are still detected, but more specifically, consoles like SNES, Genesis, NES have zero games on their list now.  These games have the same hash as before, and have worked well up through the most recent update where I've ran into problems.  I can launch RetroArch and the games all my games still show achievement support there, but about half my consoles are having this issue currently.  Consoles that are still working fine are Playstation 1 and 2, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn and several others.  It's really hit or miss.

Please see the post linked here. I think @C-Beats did some changes to the database so try updating the metadata to see if this fixes your issue.

  10. I am not sure if this is beta related or not since retro achievements have been hooked back up. One thing I have noticed is that some (not all) of my games are showing that they do not have a retro achievement available on the side details bar in LaunchBox even though they do according to the retro achievement website. I have compared the hash of my games to the hash on the retro achievement website and it matches perfectly. One example of a game is Bangai-O for the Sega Dreamcast so I looked in my Dreamcast .xml file and noticed that the retro achievements hash did not match the hash that was on the retro achievements website so that's probably why no achievements showed up for that particular game. I am assuming that the hash that is in the xml file is what is pulled from their website, so not sure why that hash did not match the one from their website? I have also ran a complete rescan of all my games for retro achievements in LB and it is still pulling back some wrong hashes from certain games when I compare them to the hash on the retro achievement website as they do not match up.

One other thing to note is when I just run the game through Retroarch and not LB it detects that I have the correct hash and shows the achievements that are available.

  11. Its looking good Jason. I am sure it is fun building it as I had a lot of fun building mine. I'm jealous of the nice size workshop as well. Looks like a beast of an arcade cabinet and will probably be heavy but vey robust. I am not sure if you are putting it in the house or not but it looks like it might be getting close to house door width size.🙂Also interior doors can vary in width from exterior doors as well.

@Rlad @kmoney @cor094 Are there certain views you see it with more often than others? Also what video playback engine are you using? WMP or VLC?

I have been using the Unified CTC theme using platform view 2 using VLC lately. I really haven't tried any other themes other than the default and I could not reproduce the issue with the default theme. But I also have not used the default theme as much either. I think it is going to be a tough nut to crack because it is random and like was mentioned earlier it only happens about 20 percent of the time. I also think it only happens randomly when I don't have "Skip Game Details Screen View" checked in the options as well.

  13. My controls issue with the keyboard/controller appears to be fixed in beta 7 along with the game view videos resuming correctly with "Skip Game Details View" unchecked in the settings. The platform view videos does not always resume when exiting from the game view screen but does the majority of the time. The CD not resuming spinning in certain game views with "Skip Game Details View" unchecked must be theme specific because the cd spinning does resume correctly with Unified and Unified Redux that I tested but not with Unified CTC.
