  1. I don't know the right english terms, since my windows is in german but i think you will understand. I right clicked the bigbox.exe -> properties -> compability and checked "deactivate fullscreen optimization and "run as admin". I can't guarantee you it will work this way, but these were the settings that finally fixed it for me.
  2. Hm. Doesn't change anything for me. Strange thing is, when i launch BigBox it turns white the option screen is normal, until i move the cursor up/down, then it turns white again. Everything else works as intended, emulators, BigScreen, Desktop. Even the BigBox Frontend looks fine on my PC monitor, while the copy on my steamlink is white.
  3. Hi, for some weeks i had problems updating my launchbox with beta builds. Installer pops up and closes without any error message. Now Launchbox or BigBox won't start. I get no loading screen at all. Just an error log: 2018-09-02 10:15:06 AM FIRST CHANCE EXCEPTION: System.NotSupportedException: Das angegebene Pfadformat wird nicht unterstützt. bei 4. Same here, having this issue quite a while. Emumovies Sync Tools works with my login data without a problem
  5. Hi, I am having problems moderating some changes to database entry naming. The last one is "The Need For Speed" for Playstation 1. https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/13308 The guidelines say as close to the official coverart. It was named "The Need For Speed" before, which fits best i would say. But today i stumbled across a change from "The Need For Speed" to "Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed". To be honest, it is closer to the official coverart, but i think this is not really appropriate. The Name of the game is "The Need for Speed" and "Road & Track Presents:" is more of an addition for commercial purposes, as the game was unknown back then, and they had to advertise it in some way to sell copies (from what i know is an NA cars magazine back then). I don't know what to do with that change request. Personally this reads as wrong as possible, it does not "feel" like it is part of the name, but the guidelines don't really point out what actually is part of the name on a frontcover and what is not. Also it can confuse the scraper, we have to add alternative names to the database just for the sake of adding useless additions to the name. Nobody called it that way back then, nobody does today. Maybe NFS1 or The Need For Speed 1. Edit: Don't know how to remove that strange formatting, which comes from a database cooy&paste
  6. Someone made a shitload of changes to the database on frontcovers for windows games. The problem is most of them are smaller (middle to lower three-digit range) than the originals for the sake of them being free from publisher logos and stuff which are on most of the localized retail boxes. Also instead of adding AUS covers, he is changing NA/World frontcovers to AUS, so valid NA boxart is gone and replaced by an AUS tagged which in almost every case was no localized AUS frontcover. I don't know if it is the same person, but there are some deletions within windows frontcovers aswell, without any reasons provided, so you have to check WHY he is deleting it, like for example is it the wrong region, is it a dup, is it a different version etc. Can someone check that please?
  7. Hi, i really like that theme, but i have the problem, that games and playlists without a clearlogo show white text on white ground (the white horizontal bar) - i can barely read anything at daylight when this happens. Is there a way to fix this, like changing the text colour, or adding an black border/shadows around the text?
  8. Thanks guys. So i have to correct them manually
  9. Hi, i had to rescrape my database, but ran into the problem that Launchbox seems not to lookup alternate names for my region To give 2 examples (wich are by far not the only ones): German: Frontschweine English: Hogs of War English: Pokemon Blue Edition German: Blaue Edition Is this a bug or a missing feature?
  10. They are already out of my queue, since i skipped most of them, so i can't link to one right now. Most of them used the same quality picture, only downscaled. When they would be of better quality i wouldn't really mind but from my judgement there was no quality gain, just decreasing resolution. The context is someone replaces a picture with for example 10000x10000 pixels and 10MB with a 1000x1000 pixels and 0.8MB. That would comprehensable for me and i would see 10000x10000 as oversized. But the ones i am corresponding to, were more like 1200 x 900 resized to 700 x whatever, without quality gain. They looked like someone was taking the original and only resized it for the sake of being lower resolution and maybe smaller filesize. Hard to explain. And since I can't see who is contributing changes, i can't judge if there is someone changing entrys to it's own personal preferences, or if these are independent changes from different people for example doing their first steps in contributing changes.
  11. I stumbled across a lot of changes in the past in existing database objects regarding resizing to lower resolutions where the original wasn't really oversized. I don't really know how to handle them. I found nothing on the moderation guideline, but personally as dual-monitor user dislike that pretty much. I always saw the database as a concentrated preservation tool.
  12. I can only second this. PNG increases the filesize, but .jpg isn't capable of transparency so this is the price to pay to achieve a perfect integration. I for my part did add/edit a lot on PS1/PS2 with the free open source GIMP and can only say after 3-4 times even a total n00b is able to replace the background with transperancy in less than 30 seconds on good quality scans of the disc. Hard cases with blurred edges and scan-shadows can need up to 1 minute. All you need is the elliptic tool, zoom (Numpad + and -) and masking. Not more or less. Forget the magic wand selection tool, the epilliptic tool is soooo much easier for circular objects.
  13. Hi, I just wanted to point out someone is trying to replace valid ps1 covers (without region set, from times before database localisation option) with lower resolution japanese ones, instead of adding them as missing japanese front covers. Is there any possibility to bulk refuse them? I stumbled over ~40-50 and it seems there are more to come.
  14. Hi, anyone here with an Super Famicom Disc for the SFDS? I am rebuilding one for practice in an CAD environment and i found plenty of pictures, but with them i can only just interpolate measurements. Also some details are pretty unclear, for example the depths of the NINTENDO engravement (is this the right term in english?), and the little rectangle holes in the upper corners. But i want to reconstruct them as close to the original as possible, so i need valid measurements for that. Some photos next to a ruler or someting similar in higher resolution or on a piece of paper with written measurements on it from all sides would be helpful. Maybe some can help me out with another problem regarding the discs. Some games come with more than one disc. They were marked with side a and side b. Do they just get flipped over, or are these actually 2 different discs?
  15. In the changes I saw, no reason was provided. If this is a bug or intentionally - I don't know. I googled some, which are indeed Japan only, so they are invalid changes from Super Famicom to SNES. The only reason i can think of is personal preference. Only the change from SNES to Super Famicom made sense in a way, which is debatable too, since they both are the same platform. Same for Famicom and NES. Pictures can already be assigned to different regions, why is this not possible for names and informations? I will stay away from moderating some time, until the mentioned pending changes were moderated by others, since this is a waste of time for me.
  16. Hi, I recognized today that after a shitload of games were updated and changed to Super Famicom, the whole process of changing the platform is now reversed. I don't really mind that this is happening, both get merged sooner or later, but it keeps moderators from processing "real" changes. Is there a way to lock the system field, to prevent this? It is totally redundant work all moderators have to do.
  17. Bonoscot said Guys i have succesfully installed big Box and a few Systems already, however i have a few questions.... 1.Duplicate games still appear constantly, most of them japanese as well....is there a way to stop all duplicate games copying over to Launchbox? How about stopping Japanese games from copying as well? It is almost impossible to make a sanity check when the scraping is filename based. When the file has the exact same name as the pendant from another region, it would be not that hard, but when they differ and you add something like a fuzzy logic to compare titles whose spelling is almost the same, you would provoke new problems with sequels for example. And make sure that there are no savegames or similar in your rom folder during scraping. These get scraped, too. When you want to stop import of japanese games, don't import them along with NTSC/PAL in the first place. Use subfolders and add the few japanese games you like manually using bulk import, so you don't have to add them one by one. 2.I have Installed My Gamecube system in Launchbox....i had noticed not a lot of wheel media was installed,is this normal for wheel media not to be installed, how do i scan for wheel media install ONLY? Do you have an free emumovies account active in launchbox? This helps adding artwork not available in the launchbox database yet. @8Phantasm made some good points regarding the database. We are in a pretty early database state, but it is growing every day.
  18. Yeah would like to see that, too. Maybe a shared folder for Dropbox?
  19. Tape should be digital copys of datasettes and as far as i know PP stands for Preservation Project. Preservation Project made dumps including copy protection, or removed trainers, cracktros etc. from games that are no longer available, except as cracked/hacked versions.
  20. I personally would prefer required commenting with username and stuff, at least for changing existing entrys. Maybe they had valid reason to reject, which you don't know of, or they don't get why/what you want to change/improve. I'm getting rejections on a change of my recently approved PS1 Resident Evil clearlogo for example. I had to fix it due to white background colour, where it needs to be transparent. So I uploaded the fixed version and it got rejected, because you can't tell the difference from the moderating page, which is obvious when shown in Big/Box/Launchbox. The majority of the rejection problems I came aware of, come from missing conversations DURING the moderating process.
  21. Yeah, when moderating you can already add a comment why you reject it, but you can't when you contribute a change, which indeed would make sense. As far as i know (never occured to me) you can read the comment when the contribution/change got rejected. It is hard to moderate an not so small amount of changes and you have to guess the reason and try to figure it out by own research. Some changes even do not make sense at all and you waste your time figuring out why it got changed.
  22. 8Phantasm said How do I check what's in the queue for a platform, awaiting moderation? It takes 3 accepts from moderating to update the database right? Too late for waiting, though. I did everything except 2 games left at the moment... Right now I havent seen such an option (still in alpha stage, there is still a lot to improve/change). When think you have an improvement/bug/etc. feel free to use gamesdb bitbucket, to add an ticket. Seeing pending moderations with a before/after comparsion would be useful for contributers. 8Phantasm said Anyhow, How would I fix something like this on the database? I use No-Intro and Redump, but I have one Famicom rom that I noticed that is being labeled as a totally different game, yet both games are on the database. The title of the no-intro nes rom file is nowhere near the title of the game it is labeled. This might be a special case, as the game it's labeled as is a hack. Not that it doesn't deserve to be in the database as it's one of the good hacks. But, I am trying to understand why it is being labeled as this game. Another thing to note is I don't have the hack imported into LaunchBox yet. Does the database read the title of the game in the database and match by filename? No-Intro and redump should be the valid entrys. If you recognize a hack in the database, feel free to delete/edit it to the right values and pictures, as hacks as of right now are not supported in the db. They mess with original games, just as it happened to you. There is already a bitbucket ticket and some threads in here, regarding that problem. To name a quick workaround for your problem, scrape the game and edit the values by hand in launchbox.
  23. 8Phantasm said I see Famicom games in the NES section, and the Famicom section is only one page. I would wait 1 or 2 days until moderation for bunch of changes from NES to Famicom is finished, so you don't have do do the same work someone else made the last ~3-4 days. I remember it was a significant count that handled this exact same problem. Approval of changes takes some time, depending how active mods and contributers are.
