How to update your MAME ROMset to a newer version with CLRmamepro
rmilyard replied to SentaiBrad's topic in Emulation
After running the Rebuild for a few minutes I started getting these errors: If click YES Rebuild stops and if click NO looks like file might being skipped. -
CriticalCid said You can either use the audit function in MAMEUI(FX) (this would be the fastest option) or you can follow the tutorial and the scanner will tell you what ROMs/CHDs/Samples are exactly missing. To be honest I tried the stuff in the post. I am not really sure what I am getting. In MAMEUIFX looks like total ROMs it knows about is 10,560 and when I click Available looks like I have 9375 So if not trying to update the ROMs but verify what missing do I skip something?
-
So if you THINK you have a full set of ROM is there an easy way to verify that and see what might be missing?
-
Zombeaver said You shouldn't need to redownload anything. You didn't actually move any images correct? You just duplicated them and saved them elsewhere? If so, you should be good to go. Once you upgrade to the beta it should automatically move your existing images around correctly. The backup is just in case something were to go wrong. Right now all I did was copy the Image folder to an external drive for a backup.
-
I backed up my Image Folder. Should I just now upgrade to beta and let the files move themselves into new folder or think would be best to spend the days redownloading all the images?
-
So I am getting this controller with the 2 player sit down cabinet I am getting for the kids. Looks like pretty much will work with MAME out of the box. Wondering if anyone else has this and used it with RetroArch or other EMUs? http://www.recroommasters.com/Xtension_Two_Player_Control_Board_Emulator_Edition_p/rm-xt-sd-board-ee.htm

DOS76 said Yeah you aren't using the latest beta then. The beta has much more options for you to choose from. I haven't updated my arcade folder yet but I believe that it has many more options now. Should I get beta?
-
DOS76 said All you have to do then is cut all the images from their MAME paths one folder at a time and paste them in the appropriate section of the LaunchBox\Image\Arcade folder or copy/cut all of the folders you want and add them to the before mentioned path then change the name of the folder to match the appropriate one in LB. bkground, cabinets, flyers, marquees, snaps etc So I am not sure what goes where? In LB I have in images folder Back/Banner/Clear Logo/Fanart/Front/Screenshot/Steam Banner folders. Not bkground, cabinets, flyers, marquees, snaps etc that was created.
-
So how do I keep Lightspeed from having LB get all my media and placing it in the MAME folder now? I rather it still be where LB does it as to keep all my media files together in same place.
-
SentaiBrad said Did you change your paths for media? Manage platforms under tools then edit Arcade. At the top click the folders tab and check to see if they're all pointing to the folder they're being put in. Even if you move them, if it's being pointed to the wrong location it won't work. LaunchBox by default doesn't change where these paths are either, they should default in the appropriate folders inside your LaunchBox folder. I used Lightspeed. Looks like it changed stuff so media is going into the MAME folders now. I don't want that since trying to keep all together.
-
For some reason when LB downloaded all my media it put it in the MAME folder and not the Arcade Folders in LB. Can someone help me so I can move this stuff manually into the LB folders? I have stuff like bkground, cabinets, flyers, marquees, snaps etc and not sure what folder goes into for LB>

Got answer on HS forums! It's in the Options -> Default Game Options, select Miscellaneous II, make sure the "Enable internal LUA plugins" checkbox is checked, and select hiscore from the "Select a plugin" dropdown.
-
Looking at ini file and no hiscore there.
-
Still haven't found a way to get it. Also for some reason on the MAMEUIFX forums I requested a login 5 days ago and still account verify email not here. Interesting.

Antropus said rmilyard said If you could PM me what I should do that would be GREAT! I am pretty new to LB and only used HyperSpin in the past so not 100% sure what doing. I will write it here, so other users can use the info as well. I will do this tonight, after I put my kids to sleep :) -Kris Thanks!
-
Antropus said You can do just that, but since you don't have any local artwork, after using Lightspeed to import everything into Launchbox you will need to select all games imported and then import the artwork for it (you don't need to import ANY metadata, as Lightspeed already does that for you, from history.dat and other sources). Just tell Launchbox that this is part of a MAME set, so all the artwork can be found in their database. It's pretty straight forward but I can write a step-by-step if you are in trouble. If you could PM me what I should do that would be GREAT! I am pretty new to LB and only used HyperSpin in the past so not 100% sure what doing.

SentaiBrad said Did you try the Windows Games Importer?X If it doesn't work and If you are using exe's instead, go to your Root Mugen folder and use the Windows Search. Search for ".exe". It will show you all of the exe's, then you can drag and drop them in to LaunchBox. Since this still needs to updated, you'd have select MS-DOS as you can use the Bulk Edit feature to removed the entries from trying to use DOSBox. You may also have to edit their platform to something else, I can't remember if this method would also try and call them DOS games. We know that we need to allow better Drag and Drop support for Windows exe's so there would be no workaround. I will try it out later. Right now it is still downloading tons of media.

Antropus said Oh, Lightspeed is especially developed to use your local images and roms if you already have a collection! If you are trying to use Launchbox to gather the images for those other platforms, this is still possible, but you will need to tell Launchbox that each platform is a MAME collection (in the options when you are importing the metadata). Importing the metadata with Launchbox will get you the latest they have in their database, that according to some reports, is not as complete as importing everything with Lightspeed, because the info comes from History.dat, which is more complete. You have many options to do it though, but the most optimal way would be to download all the artwork packs, extract them locally, point Lightspeed to those folders and let it do its thing. You should get all games filtered, all metadata parsed and all artwork ready to go when you open Launchbox next time (unless you are using the latest beta, but in that case I will release a new version tonight that should fix that a well). -Kris Not sure I understand. I have my full ROM set but no artwork for MAME etc. I just want to get them into LB and let it download all the media files etc. So not sure if I am explaining this right.

SentaiBrad said I don't get what you are meaning. Regardless of size you can add as many shortcuts as you'd like. 10 or 123. It's just that we don't have shortcut importing, and if the Windows game Importer doesn't find your exe's properly you can drag and drop all 123 shortcuts, select MS-DOS. Once importerd, you bulk edit out the option for MS-DOS so it launches without it. We do want to expand the drag and drop function and importer function so that there is an option for Shortcuts. If I didn't understand what you meant @rmilyard then please let me know. So each of my games are in a Folder with Name and the .exe is within that folder also with game name. So not sure how you mean to import them into LB.
-
Not sure what you guys are meaning here? I have pretty big Mugen setup. I believe 123 games.
-
I have one setup for 2 plays with 6 buttons each and some pinball buttons on sides. I haven't gotten around to trying to setup controls yet. Still learning and importing games.
-
So when I split the systems out to Arcade, CPS1, CPS2, CPS3 and CAVE and do the Download Metadata and Images it ONLY finds media for Arcade. The others it doesn't find anything. Should I be putting all into Arcade first and download all the metadata? After that use Lightspeed again to split them into Platforms?
-
So what is best way to use program to split my roms into arcade, neo geo, and what else should I? All CPS systems into one platform or 3? Not sure what others are doing. Then when do how do you get all the media? Will it scrape right when split like this?
-
I haven't really tried yet to use RL with LB. I have been busy adding systems in LB and getting them there with media etc. I to would rather skip using Hyperspin.

Styphelus said For some reason I can't use Launchbox with Rocketlauncher. For exemple, for N64, everytime I try I get the message "Cannot Find H:\Launchbox\Databases\Nintendo 64\Nintendo 64.XML" My command line in Launchbox is -f "H:\LaunchBox\LaunchBox.exe" -p RocketLauncherUI -s "Nintendo 64" -r I've looked at youtube videos, went to the ROcketLauncher site and everything seems to be correct. Anyone else having this problem? Edit: Found a fix. Not sure what changed in the last few beta versions of Lunchbox but this works now: H:\RocketLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe -s "Nintendo 64" -r There any good guides and or videos for using LB and RL together?
