One thing I've noticed to keep in mind: the Background Fade option will adjust how dark or light the background is for you. I love that. :)

Ahh yes, I forgot to mention that in the file notes :)

Edit: Added that little tidbit of info to the file notes

@Grila I already much prefer this theme to the default one that I built, so much appreciated. I don't think even I can go back to the default theme at this point.

Unfortunately I'm noticing though that the BackgroundOpacity property is now affecting the entire boxes and not just the backgrounds; I guess we should have seen that coming. Hit me up and we can brainstorm a solution.

The only other minor gripe I have is that there's no way to access the main menu, so there's no way to access the Help menu, which is relatively important. Or am I just missing it?

Thank you sir. And you are correct, I forgot to put the main menu in there. I was working on replacing the hamburger icon with another and must have never came back to it. I will certainly get this back into the theme!

  3. The newest beta, 8.7-beta-1, fixes the in-ability to decrease the image background opacity.

I had an error on the placement of said opacity and wasn't able to test until I just upgraded. Nonetheless, the file is now updated to version 1.1 to fix my mistake. Please update your files.

  4. LBPlex

    View File

LBPlex is a theme that mimics Plex Media Server's website interface. Two versions are included in the package: LBPlex - which has the default item spacing on the sidebar and list view, and LBPlex Condensed - which has much tighter item spacing on the sidebar and list view. I have also replaced the volume "knob" with a regular slider.

    NOTES:

    • All the colors in this theme are hard-coded with the exception of the Foreground (text) color in the LaunchBox Options\Legacy\Theme\Colors menu.
    • The Background Opacity slider in the LaunchBox Options\Visuals\Boxes menu has no effect right now. A fix is in-coming so this will work at a later date. Update: If you run the latest LaunchBox Beta (8.7-beta-1 or above) this is fixed.
    • The Fade Background slider in LaunchBox Options\Images\Default Background will adjust the brightness of the theme background image.

    Enjoy :)

@Grila Wooo! I will get you a beta today with that feature. I just sent out an email with a big image of the theme so people are gonna want it here soon. ;)

The one thing I would say though is that if there's any way for you to make it work with the official release, that would be appreciated (even without the option to fade the backgrounds). Otherwise, I think it will be a big source of confusion.

It works, you just can't lower the opacity of the image background. Other than that, it's fully functional.

In that case, I'll package this thing up right now and post it with a note describing that issue.

  6. I've added a "Condensed" version to this upcoming theme as well, since I see a lot of users prefer little spacing between items on the sidebar. The "Condensed" version only affects the spacing on the sidebar and on the list view. Now the download will come with both the "Normal" version and the "Condensed" version. This thing is ready to go as soon as I get access to a certain opacity binding that I requested.

I also saw some comments on @ETAPRIME's 8.6 video asking about the artwork in the theme. The theme functions just like the default theme, you choose what artwork you want displayed with the "Image Group" drop-down in the title bar. I just have custom square fan-art that I've made for my entire collection that I like to use (which is also why a lot of it is different from what's scraped and not available from the LaunchBox database).

Here's some shots of both versions:

    Normal Version:

    Looking good.

Do you plan on having the option to change the separating ; for Player Mode and Genre to something of the users choice like "- | ·" ?

    image.thumb.png.ef172a164daafe2df70eafc7fbeeb3ec.png

Nope, this is for my personal setup. I'm only making it available based on previous input. I have no plans on making it customized to everyone's liking but my own. It sounds kind of selfish, but there are many other limitations to this theme that will ultimately lead to it being not widely used. It's tailored to the way I have things set up than to how the normal person has things set up (I don't use playlists, for example. I create a platform for them).

If I leave it on a game for a while in the menu (Maybe two minutes) it will automatically try to open it.

I doubt this has anything to do with the plugin code. As you can inspect on GitHub, there is no code there to make it do such a thing. Do you happen to have Attract Mode enabled? Anyways, I'll do some testing and see if I can replicate the issue.

Mame games don't seem to fully launch, but it does launch my Demul ones.

Again, most likely nothing in the code causing this. All it does is call the IGame.Play() method from the API, found here http://pluginapi.launchbox-app.com/html/b089abab-f60b-7b1c-4be3-b20a04dcfb73.htm. But, I'll happily take a look and see if I can replicate this also.

  9. I understand, but this is for my personal collection.  I'm not concerned about other peoples collections. I'm only going t make it available to the community based on the previous replies. The plugin took a huge amount of effort, and honestly, I don't really care if it caters to everyone's wants/needs.

  10. Latest test and I think this thing is almost complete. This week I worked on swapping the screenshot with game-play videos, but I ran into some trouble. I could get the video to stop when the game was launched, but I was not able to get them to resume when exiting the game. So...I reverted to the screenshots for now until I can figure the video issue out.

I have a question that I couldn't seem to find an answer for. Is this possible using the Default theme? For some reason when I edit the View and add the necessary edits and save, then launch BigBox, it clears the edits and reverts to its original state. Not quite sure if it's my settings, or just the fact that it isn't possible with the default theme.

You can't edit the default theme, it gets rewritten on each launch. You have to make a copy of it, rename it, and edit that one. Then, set that as your theme in BigBox.

    @Grila,

thanks for showing. I'd definitely use this as my main theme! Side question, where do you find your fanart? I love alot of the art shown for individual titles as you scrolled through.

I'm going to release it for the community, but be aware that it will only work at 1920x1080 and it takes a lot time to get nice fanart for each title.

As for how I get my art...I scour the interwebz one game at a time by its title. Google Images (with a minimum size of 1600x1200), ArtStation, DeviantArt, etc. If I can't find any artwork, or any good quality artwork, then I atleast try to match the overall theme of the game and find something suitable.

  13. Here's the beginnings of a new theme that I am working on for my personal setup. It's based off igarikoitz's unfinished Aura 4K theme for the RetroFE front end. The minute I saw his early working designs I fell in love with the style and decided it was how I wanted my setup to look. So, I set out on the adventure of seeing if I could port it to BigBox while keeping it as smooth as his work.

The problem I initially faced was getting the fanart from the index+1 and index-1 of the selected game. Luckily for me, @Jason Carr listens to his community and added the plugin system a while back :) The second, and ongoing problem task is finding fanart that I like and then cropping it to 1080x1080 to make sure it looks good. It's a tedious process, but worth it when you see the results.

The scrolling performance is better than I expected, since the cache isn't getting used because all the images are called from the plugin (because of the index+1 and index-1). It's actually very smooth on my main rig, and performs quite well even on my dev machine with integrated graphics.

I'm off to a good start, but still have some tweaking to do. Here's a little preview:

Just wanted to say, I've been using this for a while, and it's great! It's pretty much exactly what I've been looking for (can't believe there's still no 'random game' function already in Big Box). Just wondered if there was any way I could customise the plugin, to allow me to just go straight to the game details page when holding right (skipping both the 'play mode selection' and the 'play/choose another' screens). Or if not, perhaps instead of the box art, could the game video be displayed when deciding whether to 'play this game or choose another'? Thanks again for your great work on this!

The source is available on GitHub...customize it however you would like.

    Hi Grilla

just starting using this excellent theme on my PVM. It's great but on the systems menu with the grey strip the main panel to the right is blank despite having all the art downloaded. Should there be images here? Or do I need to add video for each system?

    Many thanks

No images, it's coded to only use videos.
