Don't use the Mame importer, that is used for full Mame sets.

Just import the games like any other platform, give it a different name such as FBN or whatever other than Arcade and scrape as arcade. It should import the games just fine.

Thank you. I should have been more clear, I actually selected the force Mame Metadata option not the import Mame set option. My bad. scrapping as Arcade does indeed work however It also adds a ton of clones/duplicates.

  2. Hey guys!

I rarely ever ask for help on here but this one is really puzzling me. Basically th problem I'm having is thousands of roms are not being picked up when using the Mame option. I've searched here and Reddit with no help except the usual "select the force Mame import option" which does work but only like 700 games get picked up while leaving thousands of others not picked up. If I don't use the force Mame option it'll pick them up but also the rom clones. It puzzles me as these roms are named similar if not the same as the Mame roms at least from what I understand they are. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I used to a have a nice setup I worked on since around 2018 or so and sadly I lost it due to an HDD crash with no backup. On that setup I did have the games imported I just don't remember how I did it.

Before anyone says "use Mame" instead I too have that added, but I use Final Burn Neo for the Retro Achievements which Mame doesn't support sadly. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Yeah, I actually put significant time and development into exactly that. But as it turns out, that implementation is very slow, ugly, and only half working. So I ended up shelving it after a couple days of work. In theory, you could get it working with a lot of effort, but it was so slow and just wouldn't be a good solution.

Edit: The (mostly) good news though is that the MAUI development on Linux is based off of that same solution, so they're not really starting over from scratch, and there's certainly hope that it will eventually become a good solution. The problem is just that it's very young and immature, and hasn't been optimized, or even fully implemented as of yet. A good number of the features that we use Xamarin.Forms for on Android just don't work on GTK yet.

I'm tempted to dive in and help with that development, and I may at some point. As of right now though, I've got my hands full. Once our new hire comes on board and gets up to speed, I might be more freed up to do something like that. But that will probably be a while.

Really appreciate you letting us know! I've been using Linux off and on since 2003. Of course gaming has gotten much better with the likes of proton and more emulator options like Retroarch. Shame it won't run great with Wine. I remember when we tried before it seemed to work but adding emulators was a huge pain! I've tried many frontends on Linux such as RetroFE and adding emulators and roms was a such a pain there as well.

Couldn't care less about BigBox, it's as clunky as all the other frontends out there. BigBox, RetroPie, EmulationStation, HyperSpin, they all just trade meaningless flash for usability. What I want is desktop mode on Steam Deck, that would be the dream.

Wow I've never had a problem with any of these frontends! Honestly BigBox has performed the best for me!

I wouldn't go reverting back to windows 10 over this, since I can verify it works on windows 11 just fine. Are you in the Steam Beta program? Just reading back a few posts and that seems to have caused some problems.

Well once I revert back to Windows 10 (I had an image backup I didn't revert back via Windows 11's update/recovery settings) it works as it should. Maybe if I did a clean install of 11 it might work? I also checked and wasn't rolled in the beta of Steam. I appreciate the reply guys!

I have the same Problem, I am on Windows 11 and Steam Launcher just launches the Proxy and does nothing afterwards.

Did you ever figure this out? I decided to give Windows 11 another go and of course the same issue. I'm just gonna roll back to Windows 10 and call it a day. Apparently  people have various issues with various problems in Windows 11 that worked fine in 10.

  7. Hey guys, I've been having some stuttering issues with Flycast core in Windows 11 (not related to SteamLauncher) so I made an image backup and decided to go back to Windows 10. I decided to try the 2021 LTSC  build for testing and for whatever reason SteamLauncher doesn't work. It just loads the Steam Proxy window and does nothing. Anyone else have this problem? If it's an issue with the LTSC build I can go back to the normal 10 Pro edition.

FYI everyone: I'm aware that the plugin is broken and I've already got LB fixed. Now I'm working on getting BB fixed. I am super sick right now.. Got a fever, sinus infection, etc.. I'm trying to get an update out as quick as possible though.

Health is the most import thing man! I hope you get well soon!

I really hope we do get a proper conversion at some point. A lack of a proper port of LaunchBox is the one thing keeping me from switching full-time. Lutris just doesn't have the feature set or the style. Just a somewhat boring GTK interface. :/

That and the past 17 years of using Linux I could never find any good frontend :/

Well, months have gone by and still, none of the newer versions of LB / BB work with Wine (I tried all of them, with no success); last working version is still 11.7 (without any of the new features, and LB 11.7 still has frequent crashes and is SO slow); Steam games still need to be edited on the xml file one by one (I've got a few hundred games on Steam, so that's a no-no for me); and no official updates on Wine/Linux support... I can only hope there's some twist in this whole situation and that, someday, we may ditch Windows when it comes to comfortably run LB on Linux , but I'm not too optimistic.

Yeah, it's a shame really but I understand Jason is busy working on new updates etc. Wish we had some more Linux gurus to help with this.

  11. So far I tried the Steam script and it launched my game! I was hoping someone like you would come along with something this. I use the startup screens which do work but setting the time to say 11 seconds to give the game time to start the startup screen seems to only last like 3 seconds. Might have to do with the bat file or wine who knows. Also is the Dolphin script for the native Linux version? Thanks again!

Has anyone tried streaming Big Box using any of these methods? If so, how was your experience?

I've used Steam which worked fine and when I had a Shield I used that as well which also seemed to work fine.

I tried changing the Emulator App Path but it keeps resetting back to "..\Plugins\SteamLauncher\SteamLauncherProxy.exe" when the SteamLauncher setting is turned on.

I'm guessing that this SteamLauncherProxy.exe is supposed to be used in some way but I have no idea how to indicate that rpcs3 is to be used as well.

Similarly, I tried this on PS1 and PS2 games as well with the same result. I feel like I'm missing an obvious step here.

Yeah, I've had to change it a few times after it kept changing back myself in the past. Haven't had it happen in awhile though. Hopefully @Lahma can chime in on this.

I am trying to get this plugin working for a PS3 game but have not been successful so far.

    Here's what I did:

    1. Steam is running in the background and in-game overlay is enabled. (I don't use Big Picture mode)
    2. Downloaded the latest version from this forum (v0.9.3.0)
    3. Extracted the SteamLauncher into the plugin folder of LB
      • Currently placed at: C:\Emulation\LaunchBox\Plugins\SteamLauncher
    4. Launched LB and checked that the Steam Launcher setting under Tools is set to On
    5. Attempt to launch one of my PS3 games but an error message will appear saying "The file you specified for the emulator application path was not found".
      • This error only happens when the SteamLauncher setting is enabled.
      • When disabled, rpcs3 starts up and launches the game as per normal.
      • Took at look at the emulation app path and it is currently set to "..\Plugins\SteamLauncher\SteamLauncherProxy.exe" when SteamLauncher is enabled.
      • The sample command would be SteamLauncherProxy.exe "FULL\PATH\TO\ROM\FILE"

Is there something I am missing in here?

For some reason the plugin will sometimes remove the emulator and instead add in its place "SteamLauncherProxy.exe" as the emulator. I had this problem in the past with PCSX2. Most likely the same issue here.

I'm seeing the same error on both my Mint virtual and my main Manjaro box.  I tried both an update through the software and a fresh install of 11.5 with upgrade through software.  I haven't tried using the 11.8 install with a fresh install on Mint, which will likely be the next step just to cover our bases, though I don't think that will work.  For fun I upgraded Wine to 5.22 and tried again to no avail.  Tried the same with Staging with same results.

After that (or more accurately, when I can pull myself from playing San Andreas) I'm going to run the update on my Windows machine so I can see if anything new has installed.  Maybe that is it.

I wonder what would happen if you use the install script on the first page like normal then just copy over 1.8 from your Windows install? I don't see why that wouldn't work. I might try it myself as well. Figured I'd throw that out there.
