JBOD ,4 years of tedious tedious artwork, adding platforms inplementing new non copyright platforms (12 dozen platforms ready to go in minutes - check my posts for links, when net speeds and hard drive costs per tb drop I hope to share all my work with the retro community...

That sounds amazing, but I can't imagine keeping that all running in a JBOG configuration. What if you suffer a hard drive failure?  Are you backing this collection somewhere? That cannot be cheap!

  2. Ahhh the flashpoint I have is v9.0 of Flashpoint Ultimate which I will add later to my larger NAS build I'm creating, but not this 8TB one, that makes up most of the "computer" games I think...I have just over 20k in that category, so I'm still short of a supposed 30k...hmmm...

I only have 1k hacks. Not sure where to get more.

To create a list of what you have, you can go to VIEW up top, choose LIST VIEW, then right click columns and remove ones in the view you don't want on the spread sheet....then ctrl+A (will take awhile) and press CTRL+C to copy it (this will lock up LaunchBox for awhile with such a giant library, but eventually when things are not locked up anymore, open EXCEL (or whatever spreadsheet) and CTRL+V

There may be a better way, but this is how I've done it time and time again.

Bottom line: many computer systems take a lot of time to set up for very little benefit. I'm honestly considering ditching most computer systems a except for ExODOS and C64 Dreams and adding Flashpint ultimate as a single app.

I don't know what computer systems would add that many games (if not dupes, demos, betas, etc..) as I believe I have all the actual games for old stuff (commodore, Amiga, Coleco, MSX, etc..), I may be missing a few hundred oddball weird ones, but not THAT many...I guess I need to check out the MAME software list to see what they are providing support for....

Thank you for the tip but everything is already compressed plus General hdd compression is also activated

Also - where it works I am using chd to save Space as well

ps3, 3DS and Switch Games needs a lot of space. Sometimes over 30-40 Gb per Game and More.

Yes I noticed after I posted that, you have a lot of PS3 in your LB collection than I do (I'm building a second set for that alone), and you have a few hundred more WII and x4-x5 times as many WII-U as well, while  I have double your PS2 games (almost), so it's good you are using compression...I also use CHD when I can, forgot to mention that.

I'm at over 90k at this point. All major popular consoles and handhelds working great, except Nintendo Switch and PS3, which are still fairly experimental. Whenever possible, I built a 1G1R set with USA --> JAP (english language) --> EUR--> JAP (non english language) --> other regions. I excluded betas, demos, and prototypes, but included unlicensed games.

Would you be willing to share your platform list and total game counts for them? (Not specific games if you don't want, just counts per platform)? I'm wondering what I'm missing....

I ask cause I have just over 42,500 game titles the full ExodDOS collection as well as an assortment of about 50 PC games and I know I'm missing about 300 PS2 games total but short of that (and more Switch games... I only have about 25) I know that my collection is almost complete as far as a 1G1R

  6. Hey all, so my 8TB is full now with 15gb free space...expanding it on my NAS to create a 12-16TB upgraded build...from what I can tell by doing so I can fully have sets for WIi, PS2, 3ds and possible Wii-U.... I will be building a PS3 only collection later because it's simply too large...but will have some PS3 favs in this one...will add more Switch to this too...

is anybody else sporting a 14 or 16TB Lauchbox collection currently? what is your total game count? Are you are organizing for cleaning up duplications, demos, etc... and removing non-english titles unless they're translated or playable like mine?

    Found a work around.

    1. Rename your current launch box folder so you have a backup.

    2. Install a fresh copy of launch box

    3. Open Dirlinker and choose your local launch box folder and the destination you would like to copy it to.

     dirlinker.thumb.png.cac9a762b4749d203cbbc1281be392f4.png

    4. Once the copy has completed open launch box to test it will open.

5, Close launch box, Go to your original lunchbox backup folder and copy it's contents over the top of the newly created network folder.

    6. open launch box from your desktop shortcut and enjoy.

For some reason it still won't load if you navigate directly to the network share but it will working using the symlinked shortcuts

    https://archive.codeplex.com/?p=dirlinker

With STEP 3. Open Dirlinker  ...

I can find no executable to open...how to you launch the program?

  8. I've decided to go with the DS1621+ instead, it has an AMD CPU rated at double the performance of the previous Intel Atom processor models. I'll be adding 16GB of ECC memory to add to the existing 4GB ECC, to make it a total of 20GB

I will be building a LB collection larger than 8TB on it (starting with that as my base), and will be testing performance of how this works over a 1GB LAN network to my WIRED desktop as well as wireless computers upstairs in my home. If anyone is interested on updates on how this goes, I'll make another thread after I spend some time with it.

  9. So...finally going to get this NAS after months of an unfortunate delay. Hoping to have it within 2 weeks of this post unless something else goes wrong...

I can't wait to test  Games & Media on NAS connected over LAN to my main system, and WIFI to the rest of my house. I get the idea from other posts that WIFI may not provide the performance needs, but hoping I can upgrade/tweak that somehow, if not I'll have to figure something else out...I just really want my collection to be able to be shared across the home, and to grow in size too...having everything be uniform would be amazing.

Is anyone else using a Synology NAS for this?  What did you need to do in DSM to set it up to work? This is my first NAS, so any step by step/tutorial advice for setting up my Launchbox share would be most appreciated. It's currently on an 8TB hard drive but will be moved over to the NAS to live ASAP. (errr copied I guess, I'll keep the external in a closet)

also, if the delay is mostly in BIGBOX causing issues with NAS/WIFI, then I'll just use LaunchBox view on all systems...however that would be done....fine with me...if that really improves it.

  10. Okay, so images are importing fine (Wew!), but 1943 is still having issues, likely because of the colon in the original title.  I fixed this in my desktop 8TB collection....the filename is actually:

    1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA).zip

Funny I would have chosen the only game in the entire NES collection I have, the title with the problem, as a test....

    Suggestions for renaming this?

Its the battle for Midway do yo?u have the wrong title so it isn't scraping?

No it's correct, I have it exported from my large 8TB collection, as named and that is scraped perfectly for that platform.

I'm importing all NES games and we will see soon...

That should still work just fine as far as i know, our database hasnt gone anywhere.

Unless 1943 - *The Battle of Midway on the NES is no longer in the database, it would appear it didn't download (at least via this platform)...

I'm going to try several games next, just wanted to get one working before I bothered...

    * Fixed title, I typed attack on midway earlier, oops

There is no patreon and it was a paid app anyway, the issues and why development was halted is more to do with Android itself, as detailed by Jason in the original post of this thread.

The only drawback I see now with using the existing paid app, is it does not download from the LB database for box art....  ?

How do I load front box image art at least for these titles without that? Do you know? Thanks.

If you had already purchased the android version you can download it still, and it had a importer built in to the app before development was stopped. So you can still use it without the feature to export being in the desktop app still.

Ahhh yes I do, thankfully...but I enjoyed the wizard/interface and working with it on my PC, but at least it will work...

Is there a Patreon to donate to? Perhaps Jason would be willing to pick this up again if people are willing to pay for it? Would love to see this improved more and more as time goes on....
