@Kevin_Flynn @AlabasterSlim only the local copy of the games database we use to scrape metadata/media was converted to Sqlite. Your local files are still the same XML files they've always been.

Yes, I understand that the XML files are the untouched. I was clarifying if changes to those files would still be reflected on the database, which I assumed it wouldn't.

  2. Launched from a network path.

Didn't get in 13.18. In beta 3, I couldn't even launch LaunchBox. In beta 4, I can navigate but get while in BigBox and navigating/exiting.

  3. It is possible that this issue is unrelated to Launchbox. However, I have been experiencing difficulties updating Launchbox hosted on my local network via the auto-downloader. Specifically, when attempting to install version 13.8, the installation process stops midway and fails to save the Metadata/Metadata.xml file. A similar issue occurred with version 13.7, but with a different file. On the other hand, when I download the installer directly from the Launchbox website, the installation process completes successfully. Has anyone else encountered anything similar?

  4. Hi @faeran

Is it possible to have a Carousel Priority setting to specify the type of images and order to appear? I may not want the same screenshot / background priorities, i.e. I may want fanart to appear in the backdrop but I do not want it on the carousel itself.

  5. There's also a bug. It's displaying Screenshot - Gameplay twice. It appears on every platform and every game.

Edit: This only occurs when I set my background priority as Screenshot - Gameplay. If I de-select background priorities they also go missing from selection, I'm not sure if that is intended or not.

Edit #2: Second image without any background priorities.

Faeran, the creator of Neptune also made this new view i believe, so not a copy per se. Sounds like you prefer the other two themes though, so why switch at all?

I never used them and I prefer the default prior to this beta. It's difficult to read any of the text or ratings that's over the image as there is far too much going on. When compared to Neptune where the content is below the image/fanart.

  7. You compared GOG Galaxy and Launchbox, and I use them both (for modern vs retro games). The only difference is that rather than load the game details on the right-hand panel, GOG opens it on the main screen and has a back button to return to the previous screen. "a complete GUI overhaul" is uncalled for. The performance of GOG Galaxy is significantly faster - this could because of the way the assets are optimized and not a fault of the Launchbox as we provide the assets ourselves and these can vary in size... or because I have Launchbox/Bigbox hosted on the network, haha.

  8. Hey @RULLUR - I've encountered this while my images/videos were hosted on a network attached storage but not while on a dedicated hard drive. It could be the latency that is causing this or lack of folder indexing. Second, I was able to minimize this on the network by removing media for roms I do not have. For example, XBOX 360 has over 1,300 games. I'd only keep the media for the 146 I'm interested in playing - I haven't encountered it since.

    • Thanks 1
  9. I've got images (more specifically, gameplay) that I've added myself and have included multiple images per game. I added a suffix of "-02" and "-03" and so on; however, I noticed it does not pick up the image if it has a "-" elsewhere in the filename. For example,

    • Crash Team Racing - Nitro-Fueled-02.jpg - DOES NOT WORK
    • Crash Team Racing - Nitro-Fueled (2).jpg - WORKS
    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe-01.jpg - WORKS
    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe-02.jpg - WORKS

  10. I don't see a dedicated GPU. I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Vega 11 is rated for 4K. Set your resolution to 1080p and see if it's that. A lot of times you need to adjust the response time on your monitor as well, i.e. fast mode.

  11. I encounter the exact same as your video when I load BigBox over the network; but I took BigBox as the root cause as it persisted through other themes but was more prominent in game views. As a result I gave up entirely on running this over the network.

How did you check for which files are accessed? If there's a large number of random reads then that's for sure to slow it down.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll know without relying on Jason to debug / run diagnostics on it.

  12. @johnsanc as a fellow unraid'er, what model is the HDD? Not all HDD are made the same regardless of the RPM, i.e. the average read speed for 5400 RPM is 100 MB/s; however, for there to be an average that means there are drives far below that number. Secondly, if the drive is being used by other Virtual Machine's or dockers then it cuts away at that speed. The average 4K video is 50MB, whereas the highest is 82MB. It may take 1-4 seconds if it's a highly utilized drive. Third, where is LaunchBox installed? When you're scrolling through platforms it's actually reading your Data files to get a count of games. If your platforms have a large number of games you may see some stutter as it's reading the XML, this happens before the view changes.

  13. I'm asking because I am experiencing significant lag using both Launchbox and Bigbox over the network, to the point where it corrupts the image caching (and possibly other data).

    PC:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
    Memory: G.SKILL 32GB 3800 MHZ
    GPU: GeForce RTX 2080 TI
    Network: Realtek 2.5GbE
    Disk: SSD 960 PRO M.2 2TB

    Home Server:

    CPU: AMD Threadripper 2950X
    Memory: 128 GB ECC
    Network: 10GbE
    Disk: SSD 860 EVO 4TB x 6

Connection is LAN and wired. Average read and write speed is 200 mb/s. Without saying, this drops significantly for large number of small files.

Am I right to think that Launchbox should be local and to only store the emulators and roms on the network?

Edit: Secondly, if people are not using Launchbox over the network, how are you synching it across multiple machines? Rsync, Deltacopy, (software) etc.?

The idea is good, but I'm afraid it will increase loading times even more.

LaunchBox seems to already be loading an image for those that have a default device image in Launchbox/Images/Platforms/Devices so it's not that i'm asking to populate a blank page but to provide a more suitable default image, again a suggestion. Jason would be able to confirm if this is the default behavior of what I believe occurs when VLC crashes, or a bug, etc. Could it be a setting I have enabled? I do see your point if you're concerned about the size of the stills.

See attached for an example. This is unfortunately a mockup as I was unable to reproduce it today but it occurred multiple times yesterday.

After playing around I was able to reproduce it when I removed the video (or prevented BigBox from finding it). The default behaviour seems to fall back to the Device image in Launchbox/Images/Platforms/Devices.

    See attached.

I could have sworn I encountered this on a platform where there was a video, but it failed to load, and only loaded after I switched platforms and back.

  15. Great work! I love everything from color choices to layout. I can't wait to see how this grows.

Note: I have noticed that videos tend to not always load and as a result, reverts to the device image. If I may suggest adding 'stills' of each video as part of the theme: Colorful/Images/Platforms/Device
