It's the Wolfanoz 3TB set-but I paid for Big Box etc to get the full experience.

OK. Yeah one thing we rarely do is troubleshoot prebuilds. We have no way of knowing what the builder did and if you did not build it yourself any direction we can take you will likely lead to dead ends since you do not know what they did as well.

I am taking a shot in the dark here, can you post pics of the inside of the following folders? I think I might know what is up. Maybe.....

    1: \Launchbox\Data

    2:\Launchbox\Data\Platforms

If it is not what I think it is your than we really cannot do much more.

  2. Well using the "X" definitely is not going to work. It will simply for the changes. Hitting "OK" is needed. Not sure why when you hit ok that it does not work. Try making the selection to just add Box-Front and the use the "move selected up" option to move it right under the 3D Box listing and then hit OK and see what happens.

I do a manual install, as an automatic doesn't work, it just saves me the new LB.exe into the updates folder and I have to run it myself.

When I run it, and point it to E:\, it will automatically create a folder on E:\ called LaunchBox. There's no LaunchBox folder existing as LB is installed inside the root of E:

That's your issue then. LB will always look to install to a \Launchbox folder. This would likely explain why the update from inside LB does not work as it is trying to find that \Launchbox folder.

  4. The best way to share images is just add them in the post. At the bottom of the text field is the area to add images (see first pic below).

The issue is you have your platform view set to display 3D Boxes. This image in your second pic is a normal Box - Front Image. You would need to edit your image priorities to allow Box Image to show up in the absence of a 3D Box image.

    >Tools>Options - Media - 3D Box in this section you can choose all the image types you want as fallback when a 3D Box image is not there. You can move them up or down to place them in order of priority.

    Hello,

Unfortunately that did not work, problem still persists...

Can you post a pic of where you are not seeing the images. Also for one of the games that is not showing specific images can you share a pic of the image it should be showing inside the \Launchbox\Images folder?

If it downloaded the images and you see them in the correct folder a refresh of the cache should have worked. So it would be nice to see you set-up.

  6. The new install will not affect settings. It updates the exe and other components, but it does not overwrite any of the data xmls or settings xmls. The question though is why it is installing in a secondary LB folder. Are you manually installing a new version or doing it from within LB when it notifies there is an update?

    Hi all,

I have searched but cannot find a solution so hopefully I am not duplicating.

For some reason not all images are showing on Launchbox or big box: what makes this strange is that I am downloading the files and they are previewed there but when it comes to adding them they don't appear at all.

I do EDIT-IMAGES-DOWNLOAD IMAGES-CHECK ALL-DOWNLOAD-OK...that works for some but not all? The confusing bit is that there isn't a consistency so that's why I am baffled? The games work fine.

Grateful for some guidance as it appears to be a simple fix...

Try refreshing the image cache. In LB under Tools there is an option to refresh all images. In BigBox in the Images settings you will see a similar option.

Just tried another import full mame romset, rebooted, games still not loading.  Ive got psx, snes, Genesis etc all running fine, no idea why these mame roms wont open.  I know its something daft, no doubt.

Are you changing the rom path inside Mame directly? You said it will not update the rom path when you change directory from Tools, that is a LB UI element. You need to open Mame directly and change the path where Mame is looking.

sega dreamcast wince files as they do not run in redream but do in flycast when you floow a tutorial parts of which are nothing like the launchbox 11.2 and it does not work after two day of trying to work out what is wrong it gets frustrating.

what exactly do you need me to provede you

reply delayed had to go and empty the recycling (i am in france at present)

No worries on the time difference/delays. OK just wanted to make sure there was some confusion on if you were importing Naomi or Sega Dreamcast.

Since your Dreamcast games work in Retroarch with the FLycat core that means there is a disconnect in LB.

Choose on of your Dreamcast games and right click, then edit. Show me 3 pics (Pics are the best way for us to spot anything at odds)

1: Pic of the Metadata tab

2: Pic of the Launching tab

3: Pic of the Emulation tab

that is the tutorial I used. most programmes tell you what the error is but launchbox does not a sends you to the forum were they just insult you

No one insulted you. You just came in here with such a sharp negative attitude towards LB and we simply offered countering statements. In fact we even offered help. I asked you to provide images we would need to see where the disconnect is and you provided some of what we needed and then proceeded to say if you had to do 1 and 2 to get games to run you would just stick with RA. Well, if you are not going to provide what we ask for to help you what good is that?

Let's start from the beginning ok?

1: What platform are you importing exactly? Are you importing Sega Dreamcast or Sega Naomi?

  11. 3 minutes ago, xenotoca said:

changed it to sega dreamcast same rusult. Launchbox has got far to complicated from its early beginnings and the tutorials so out of date as to be useless. Looks like you need a degree in computer science to use it.

No. Still just as simple as it ever was. It has not changed how emulators are added, nor how games are. There have been a coupe minor tweaks, like no longer needing to type in the core for Retroarch. Outside of that much of how you add games and emulators remains the same.

In fact the tutorial @neil9000 linked is close to two years old and is still relevant.

grey on black hard to see with my 77 year old eyes. Yes they run fine in retroarch

if you have to do 1 &2 to get games to run then i will stick with retroarch as there is no clue as to what is wrong

From the looks of it I am going to say that you have the wrong platform name in the Associated Platforms tabs. Just below the last image I can see "Sega Dreamcast" peaking out and in the Associated Platforms tab you simply have "Dreamcast". The way you have the Platform named in LB has to match what you enter in the Associated Platforms tab.

imported some dreamcast games into launchbox and they show up no problem but nothing happens when I try to launch them???

suspect they need custom command line parameters whatever the hell they are????????????

I am merging your threads since they are both about your problems getting Dreamcast games to launch. Please do not start separate threads with the same issues. We do not stress a lot of forum rules here. However, we do try to keep unnecessary duplicate posts to a minimum.

See my response to your original post and we can help troubleshoot.

this forum really needs a search function.

You mean like the one at the top right of the forum page?

Screen Shot 2020-08-25 at 7.17.31 AM.pngAs far as Dreamcast goes, first things to confirm is do your games run in Retroarch directly (without using LaunchBox)? If they I would recommend sharing pics of your set-up so we can see if something is missing.

1: Edit your Retroarch in LB and post pic of the Edit Emulator Screen showing A: The "Details" tab / B: The Associated Platforms Tab (make sure the platform name is fully visible)

2: Right click a game from the platform and choose edit. Show a pic of  A: the "Launching" page / B: the "Emulation" page.

  15. If you are using the “Default” theme the game names will not be under the box. It will be on The image at the bottom of it. If you are only getting a game name when you click an image then you need to check the box labeled “Text” on the bottom right of the Launchbox screen. Near the volume.

If you want the names to show under the image you will need to use the “Old Default” theme.

I set it to "Scrape As Arcade", then I did "Refresh All Media", but it still does not work, maybe I have to delete the Neo Geo AES Images first? And will it download the Arcade artworks then? Because the Neo Geo AES is in the database, I'd like to use it's original artworks, not the Arcade artworks, wheter it's just the Arcade version on a cartridge or not.

Refresh simply refreshes the image cache. You need to rerun the Media downloader. Right click that game and edit it. In the Images options choose "download media"

I seemed to remember in the update notes some time ago that there was a feature so that when media was downloaded, it would just use the name of the rom, ISO etc as in general it just uses the title name. I had been hunting for that in the settings but can't seem to find anything. Just curious if I dreamt that up, and if not, how to access it.

    Thanks

LB has been and still names the media after the game name as it is imported in LB. There is no setting to have it name it after the rom. Now, LB will accept media named after the rom and it will show that media in LB. But there was not update to add a setting to choose how it names the media.

Currently I have some minor issues with some artworks. If there are artworks missing for super rare games, no problem, but I'm doing a Best of Games playlist, and it'll be great if it's artworks are complete. I added Aerofighters 2 for the Neo Geo AVS to my collection, and there is artwork in the launchbox db, but it's not downloading, this is the case for some other games, too.

    How can I fix this?

Do you have the "Scrape As" set to Arcade? That is the recommended setting. I just tested that game it downloaded the images fine.
