  1. Is it possible to change attract mode to loop a video rather than scroll through random games?
  2. Is there a way to loop a video for attract mode over the default function of scanning through games? I think PaDeMoNiuM's Arcade Neon Deluxe startup video would fit well in this capacity.
  3. I saw that but wasn't sure if it was a valid site/resource based on some of the reviews. I'll definitely check it out as well, netplay does have some appeal and wondering what games I may be missing out on based on the nofiller v2 list I'm currently working with. Thanks again.
  4. Ok, so it sounds like you're telling me I'm over thinking this and recommend stop spinning my wheels and move forward with 0.231 and mame-current core...time can be better spent on other tasks. Thanks for the assist guys.
  5. I have MAME 0.231 working both independently and within LaunchBox, but i'm trying to get RetroArch working in LB using mame-2003plus core. Any suggestions in the noob tutorial i've already completed successfully. Perhaps I'm not asking the correct questions. I want to utilize the latest rom sets for the updates which is why I downloaded 0.231 full non-merged set. Should my focus be on "rollback" to 0.78? If so, do I only need the rollback 0.231 set compared to the upgrade packs that require each iteration?
  6. I've been having a loooong standing issue getting my mame games running in LaunchBox, took a long break and now I'm back at it determined to make this work. To start fresh and skip the old details: I recently downloaded the new 0.231 non-merged romset. To keep things simple for troubleshooting, I picked ~30 games and got them to work in mame 0.231. I reinstalled RetroArch and downloaded the mame 2003 plus core and scan directory only would find 4 games. I figured this out by performing a manual scan and it found all the games in the directory, Appears to be a RA bug, but most of these games will not play in RA and says they are missing files. If I try to play the games in RA, the game loads then just navigates back to LaunchBox main menu. In LaunchBox, RA emulator I can install the mame-current core, perform a manual scan and play the games successfully. I've read all the info out there and perhaps I'm just missing something. Here are my questions What am I not understanding/missing about the romset and how to get it working with the RA emulator, mame 2003 plus core? I previously used the clrmame pro guide by CriticalCid to upgrade from 0.222 > 0.231 but still had issues. Do I need to rollback my new 0.231 to a certain version to work with mame 2003 plus core? I also downloaded the 0.231 CHD's, do I just add the respective folders to the ROM directory? I believe I found the samples, assume these are just dropped in the samples directory? Can anyone find my .xlsx file that had my parts list I researched? ? Thanks in advance for any clarity you can provide me!
  7. I hate threads that don't close properly, here's what fixed everything: I apparently couldn't figure out how to use the split rom set properly. I switched to non-merged and all the major issues I was having with games starting with the RetroArch mame core resolved. To give just a bit of background to the issue I mentioned previously about not cluttering the thread if it was going to continue. In short, I had to re-image due to unknown factors and I chose software and data wipe to be 100% clean. ONce that was complete and all software was loaded back up issues persisted. I found for some reason, there were remains of the old file structure on the pc and when i reinstalled LaunchBox to a new location, the software somehow was pulling from those directories. I coughed it up as a windows 10 issue, deleted all old directories, reinstalled LaunchBox again and everything started working as to be expected.
  8. Ok, this works now. Not sure that I saw the dll blocked windows, so I reinstalled Neon, received the blocked prompt, un-blocked the dll's and it worked. I'm using the 4:3 currently with a crazy old monitor and it looks great, can't wait until I purchase a new monitor for the cabinet and switch to the 16:9. Great work and thanks for the prompt response.
  9. I installed the neon bigbox theme and the srartup theme per the instructions and I don't see either of the new themese applied although they both said applied...am I missing something?
  10. I haven't found this info yet. Is there a way to obtain a list of game names that match the actual rom for a name set? I'm using non-merged 0.222. Appreciate a point in the right direction.
  11. Ok, i figured out the mame-current core not installing issue...i highly doubt the fix will apply to anyone else so I will not clutter this thread with that info. The core does install via RetroArch and I see the # next to it finally. Unfortunately, scanning the ROM folder still does not list any games and I do not see the option to add the mame-current core when I edit the RetroArch emulator in LB. I don't claim to have a solid understanding of any of this yet, could this be due to using a split ROM set and I just read something about needing a bios/device set for split sets?
  12. Wow, thanks for your ninja fast reply. I must be doing something wrong. I download the Mame-Current (mame-libretro.dll) core previously, but it pulls down a zip file and an empty Core folder. If I extract the zip which appears to have the .dll within, it fails with an unexpected error...this happens on 2 pc's which is why i started looking at other cores.
  13. I want to make sure I'm heading the right direction here before I kick off another huge ROM set download. I just got back into this after a few year sideline and am re-learning everything. I just downloaded the MAME 0.222 split ROM set and see that it mostly works in launchbox with a few errors that need to be investigated, but recall I liked using RetroArch instead of the MAME emulator. Based on my research, here is what I believe I need to do. Setup Retroarch in LaunchBox Associate the Arcade platform in RetroArch, using the Mame 2003+ Core https://docs.libretro.com/library/mame2003_plus/. Download the MAME 0.XXX non-merged ROM set based on Mame 2003+. Can anyone confirm this before I kick off this huge 122GB download? Also to keep these versions updated, it looks like clrmamepro is the best way to do this?
  14. When in launchbox, if there is a game i choose to delete, i can just right click and delete, but this doesnt appear to remove the rom or the associated media. Is there a clean way to do all of this in one action?
  15. Ok, so i had it mostly working and now i have 2 issues: I had retroarch working in rocketlauncher, but something suddenly changed and now when i go to the Arcade system, I only see Mame Global as an option for Default Emulator, not retroarch. Rom paths is set under Arcade system. When i had retroarch working, I was able to run the few games i tested, but they would not run from launchbox. I couldnt find a disconnect between launchbox and rocketlauncher (the only emulator configured in LB)
  16. No, i'm going to look for current roms and try that, internet speed and HD size is fine. I didn't understand that roms had versions as well that matched with the mame versions.
  17. Sorry about that monkus, thanks for cleaning that up was just trying to give you the right info to help me out. Ok, thanks guys, so let me play with this some more, perhaps clear the roms and add a few to see how that goes.
  18. FYI, i get it, this is all likely my lack of understanding of how this all works...apparently i'm not absorbing the info as well as i should be. So, when i initially started this 6 years ago (before kids were born and project time went poof) i purchased roms from "link removed", the disk i'm working with right now is the MAME's greatest hits. So i have all sorts of games on here, like tempest, gorf, burger time, etc. I imported the entire disk which gave me 1346 games all under the Arcade system. I left the combine roms with same titles option set. So since the 194X series games (capcom) is first in the list, i test them lots so here are some examples. I currently have the MAME 2003 core loaded in retroarch 1941 runs, 1942 fails, 1943 runs, 1944 fails. Burger Time fails, Super burger time runs. I have a number of games from sega in this system, some run, some dont. So this raises 3 questions in my mind: I assume since these games are in this list, they were made by sega, but not a rom for one of the actual sega platforms...is there a difference? Do i need to configure different games in this list somehow with different cores to work? How would i do that? (Sounds painful) Do i need to do something different or change the import feature when "combine roms with same titles" is enabled? Thanks for staying engaged btw, appreciate the help.
  19. This is getting really frustrating. I went through your steps and first game i chose worked via retroarch emulator, then the next game fail and it seems more fail than not. I've tried different mame cores and even fb cores but still no consistent success. I was going to give up on retro and just go mame for arcade, but see the same thing there too. I feel like deleting everything and start from scratch, but this is a fresh win 10, dedicated machine, hardley anything has been done that I dont feel i could go back and revert if necessary. What else am i missing? Its frustrating because every video and page i read says get to this point, bam your game should work...so many issues at this point. Also, i'm a bit confused as to when i should be configuring global or a specific system emulator in RL. Perhaps i didnt have things setup right, but i wasn't able to use the global emulator when the system specific at least pulled up. Also at this point, i setup an emulator for retro there but the mod only lists an option for mame.akh.
  20. Thanks guys, i actually did follow the youtube tutorial before i posted for help, figured that would make everything nice and fuzzy and it just didnt work. Let me try the pictures and get back to you.
  21. I'm brand new to this and I'm trying to get retroarch to work as from it sounds it works with most platforms. I extract retroarch to the pc, update, apply, download cores and when i select one to load (was aiming for MAME) to work with the arcade classics it doesnt want to seem to stick or save although i do see it appear at first until i close retroarch. With this, i cant seem to get a game to run with retroarch which in turn i cannot get to work with rocketlauncher and bigbox. I've looked at a lot of videos and such online, it seems pretty straight forward, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. Help please!
  22. Here's a spec i put together, its a bit more than i was hoping to spend since its not my primary desktop and gaming pc, but it looks like it should handle most anything i throw at it. Its a shame, as this is almost at the specs of my primary desktop that i built for $2.2k a handful of years ago, for ~60% less. Yes, I know, the totals don't quite add up for some reason, but not worried about why they did that. Please, take a look and if something looks off or you see room for improvement, please say so. 23. Thanks guys, appreciate the info. I'll start digging up some hardware and post for thoughts. Feel free to keep the data coming. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
  24. Hi all, i started to build a cabinet 6 years ago, then my wife had twins and my spare time went poof. I'm getting back to my project now and lots has changed since then, specifically the addition of LaunchBox (was going to use Hyperspin). I was wondering if you could provide me some recommendations on the pc hardware aspect. I plan on adding multiple platforms, not just the arcade classics but nintendo, sega, laserdisc's, xbox and even potentially some steam games. It seems hardware requirements may jump when you start talking nintendo/sega and I can imagine another jump when talking xbox and steam. I'm not looking to build a $2k+ pc for this so trying to get a good idea what will work for these specs. If xbox and steam is going to make a huge jump in price, I may be willing to drop those. I'm also adding pics of the cabinet i started 6 years ago, should be plenty of space for the pc. The idea is to have a hidden drawer for the keyboard and mouse and the control panel lid will lift. I also hope to be able to use a working coin mech and/or buttons for credits. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! PC hardware: HD recommendations size & speed, MB, RAM, video card, sound, etc... I'd like to add a video marquee if possible, suggestions on this? This may be a bust based on my current cabinet build. I was also thinking of adding those round built in speakers up in the marquee area pointing down toward the player.
