Yes, I did change the design to try and make the themes more cohesive. As a theme can only have one text view, I unfortunately won't be able to add the old text views back. However, you can modify and add those views back for your purposes. I had responded to @alnyden about a similar question earlier in this thread; you might check with him to see if he already did this.

I didn't combine the two versions, what I'm doing is using the older version with the text view on certain platforms and the new version on others.  To do that, I re-named the old version NostalgiaOld.  Then I had to go into the View files, searched for "Nostalgia" and changed them to "NostalgiaOld" when it was part of a link to a file.  If there's a way to move the old text view into the new version, that would be even better I suppose.

Updated to v1.3 -- addressed bugs and performance issues.

Working great and performance is much improved from 1.2!

Only thing I noticed is Collecovision videos are not fitting properly in the monitor.

Also, in the old text view for a playlist, I think the name of the playlist was at the top, and now it shows the system name instead.  I could see an argument either way but personally I preferred having the playlist name up top.

Thanks for the fixes and love having Apple II included! :)

No worries. I'm hopefully close to an update -- working on a few minor bugs ... but the performance issues are hopefully solved in this next update; I did find some problems there.

Okay, I'll wait for the next update then.

You could make a stripped down version of the old theme leaving just the text views and would have to modify about 5-6 files with the new theme name.

I'll give this a shot.  Thanks for the tip!

Hmm. I'm still lost here. I guess the next thing to try would be to back up your LaunchBox\Themes folder and then delete it completely (or just move it somewhere else). Big Box will then regenerate the Default theme when you start it up again, which will rule out any weirdness with theme code. If you're still getting it at that point, then obviously it's not theme-specific. The next thing to try is to completely get rid of any plugins to see if they're the cause.

I got it working!  I re-installed the Default theme and removed some plug-ins.  Not sure what did the trick but it's better now.  Thanks Jason.

Yes, it is really cool if my biased self may say so :). Sorry you're having troubles; let's see if we can narrow that down. First, if you're getting those crashes with VLC, switch over to WMP for the video engine (BigBox setting); I don't get crashes with VLC, but at this point I consider the WMP implementation the way to go. Please send me a screen grab of the error reports. Also, it'd be helpful to know on which views it occurs; might help narrow down to a specific control. How many games are in your library? It'd also be helpful if you could test with MinimalX v5.1 (just uploaded), as it uses the same version of the plugin library. You can grab it here:

Yes, but I changed it to look like the other views (I didn't really like the old text view as it didn't jive with the rest of the theme). Sorry if you became attached to the old text view. This updated text view is one of my favorites now. There are actually multiple "text" views; views 1 and 3 are actually wheel-based views but mimic a list, and in these views the lists will fade out to reveal platform or game metadata. In the real text views (of which you can only have one each for platforms and games), the list does not fade out.

Sorry I haven't had time to troubleshoot the theme yet, but I should do it soon.

As for the old text view, I do use it a lot since you added the feature of having fan art background, which is nice for specific playlists.  Curious -- how many files would I have to tweak if I wanted to rename the theme to keep using the old version for certain platforms?

  6. Now I'm getting error messages in other themes, such as this one in coverbox.  All I did was insert some code into one of the views In City Hunter and install the randomizer plugin before all these theme errors started happening.  I re-installed City Hunter and removed the plugin, but the errors have continued.

Hi @alnyden, that's a strange one indeed. I haven't changed Big Box at all in any of the latest betas, so I'm doubtful that it has to do with the code in the betas. What theme are you using? Does it happen with the Default theme?

I was using City Hunter, but I re-installed it, and it didn't solve the problem.  I've tried other themes as well including the default -- same issue.  If you didn't change the code, maybe it does have something to do with the randomizer plugin from @Grila, however, he said that it shouldn't affect the options screen.   Also, I have removed the plugin, and restored any changes to the theme.

I updated to the latest beta this morn but that didn't fix it either.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    R

  8. Since I updated to the latest beta, I've been getting the following error message when I go to the options screen in Big Box.  At first I thought it was related to installing the new random game plugin, however, I've put everything back as it was before and am still getting this error, regardless of what theme I'm using.

    Thanks!

Hmm not one I have seen before that I'm aware of, it references collections a few times and Launchbox doesn't do collections per se, it does Playlist's so I'm not sure to what its referring to be honest. Plus i'm a total tard when it comes to code so not the best person to ask. ?

What theme are you getting that on, and have you tried another theme to test if its restricted to that theme or across the board.

I've tried changing the theme and I'm getting the error message regardless.  This also occurred after I updated to the latest beta, so I'll mention it in the threads over there.  Thanks guys.

Major update to v1.2. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Thanks for the update, the changes seem really cool.  Unfortunately I'm having some major performance issues with the new version.  Sluggish scrolling, videos taking a long time to play, and crashes.  Anyone else having problems?

Also, didn't get a chance to check myself due to the crashes, but is the old "boring" text version still there?

    Thanks!

  11. It's possible but extremely difficult.

I never got this method to work, but some have said it does.  Read the thread below, it's tricky to setup and only works with the current release, and the mod has to be updated every time pinball arcade updates.

    http://pinballarcadefans.com/showthread.php/10199-DOWNLOAD-Pinball-Arcade-Free-Camera-Mod

The other method that I did get to (mostly) work is through a rocketlauncher module.  (If you're not using rocketlauncher then stop reading now).  Here are some complicated instructions, some of which apply to hyperspin that you can ignore.  This only works with pinball arcade version 1.50 or earlier.

    http://hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/10656-quick-tutorial-for-setting-up-pinball-arcade/

Then on page 13 of the thread someone released an update to the module that works with versions past 1.50.  But you also need the instructions from the first page to get it to work.

    http://hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/10656-quick-tutorial-for-setting-up-pinball-arcade/?page=13

Warning, your head may explode reading this thread.  I'm curious if anyone has found a better way to do this.

Yes, though I recognize if you want every genre or every developer, for instance, that's not really going to work. The issue with using other views for genres, for example, is that we just don't have pictures for each genre, or each developer, etc. Otherwise we could easily implement the other views for the other filter types, but without pictures for them, the other views are fairly impractical.

I think if you allowed other views for the Genres page, people would quickly create pics and vids for them.  (And in fact many of them already exist).   Once there is the option of different views, there will be more motivation to solve the problem of creating the artwork.

Hi @alnyden. This is unfortunately true. The menu won't come back while in the game details/options page. I would need to release a version where the menu never goes away, and the box/cart images never appear. I'm thinking of releasing that version for people that use the game details page.

Good to know.  In the meantime I'll avoid the game details.  Thanks!

  14. Another great theme!

I am having an issue with the games details page.  When you select a game it shows the games details list.  However, if you wait a couple seconds, it goes away (box icon returns on top of it), and then the interface stops working -- you can't navigate games or games details list.  (It seems like it's in the games detail but you can't see the options under the graphics).  Hope this makes sense.

:D so the theme is alive! This is the best news I heard in awhile.

Not so fast everyone.  He posted his artwork "to be used on retropie systems only."

"Lastly, I don't know if or when I"ll return to the community (as a maker, I'm still around helping people)."
