1. Ok, so what i get from that thread is that dreamcast should be played from outside retroarch, retroarch also saves game progress, is good for enhancing graphics for consoles especially, and makes all controllers compatible. I guess retroarch chooses the best emulators for each system and i will also follow the lb tutorial videos. There is mention there of retroarch option to play the games in 720p, really? How can i configure it? Can standalone mame played in 720p as well? 2. What about mame software lists vs retroarch vs standalone? No information on that... I tried to load mame software list roms (without the chd's) in my lbp but it just added mame arcade roms which i already have before adding it, strange... Does lbp even work with mame software lists and mame software lists chd?

I'm LBP user. Currently i only have full mame arcade set. I want to start adding all consoles emulation that was ever made, starting from my childhood consoles: sms, nes, megadrive, snes, mega cd, 32x, saturn, n64, dreamcast, gamecube, ps1, and then continue to the rest of emulation available. before, during and after the consoles i mentioned. 1. Which would be the highest quality emulation with the most complete sets for each console that exists? Mame software list, standalone emulators with retroarch, standalone emulators without retroarch? A combination of all three? Anything else i am missing? 2. I'm convinced to at least try retroarch with my LBP. i get the impression its the best choice with LBP for consoles emulation since i read it offers some graphics enhancements and more, is it the best option with LBP? If so, If i use retroarch does it mean that mame software list roms and chd are useless since retroarch only works with standalone emulators and roms? If so, will retroarch choose the best emulators for me? Are there some exception emulators which i should use outside retroarch? Arcade related: 3. For mame arcade emulation i use the official emulator outside retroarch, does retroarch bring something new to mame if i use it inside retroarch? I read somewhere that mame is better played outside retroarch, is that so? For mame arcade graphics, I made some changes to mamke ini graphics settings and i'm pretty satisfied with the results, does retroarch offer more graphics enhancements that are not available from the standalone mame emulator?

May i ask why do you use bezels from different sources? Aren't emumovies contain everything? Just for art differences? I would like my bezel art to look the same in all games. I guess i'll settle for the 4:3 aspect ratio without bezels as i would like my screen to be filled by the game window as much as possible. I think someone needs to pick the ball and make left and right bezel with 4:3 aspect ratio game window for all mame and console games. Would be awesome.

You're welcome. If you find out if there is a full mame rom bezel pack of such somewhere then it would be lovely if you post here or pm me.

I just notice that all these 3 WD hdd's now are more or less in the same price of the Seagate Barracuda HDD 4TB Sata III ST4000DM005: Western Digital Red WD40EFRX 4TB Sata III Western Digital Purple 4TB 64MB Sata III WD40PURX Western Digital Caviar Blue 4TB 64MB Sata III WD40EZRZ Is any of them better choice than ST4000DM005? Are they the latest and greatest models from WD? I know some people here are not so fond of seagate hdd's but i need to know about these specific hdd's how they fair against the seagate one. Hopefully i buy a new hdd for my lb this week. :-)
-
On amazon they say the ST4000DM005 is only 5900 rpm, not 7200rpm like i thought. How important is 7200rpm for lb gaming with sharing all the roms and chds in a torrent tracker at the same time? What difference would it make? ST4000DM005 attractiveness is its price but i wouldn't want to buy something that does not fit what i need.

Well, i'll settle for full mame (minus mame software list roms as i read stand alone console emulation is better than what mame console emulation offers right now) and some of the consoles i listed. Again, i mean EVERY single related file that exists that can be configured, presented and played from lb for mame and console emulation, that includes full rom sets (among them, mame non-merged roms) and full chd as well. Hopefully i'll grab seagate barracuda 4TB this week.
-
@jayjay That is cheering! There is hope! lol. ...wait a sec... does your calculations for mame 5TB drive include mame non-merged roms, and for both drives all rom sets of all listed emulations and any other related lb files like videosnaps, all kinds of the images, etc.)? If so than that means i could pack all mame related plus a dozen of consoles related files similar to what you listed with just my intended 4TB drive which i think is great for start. The first consoles i will pack in aside of mame is sms, nintendo, genesis, super nintendo, mega cd, 32x, saturn, nintendo 64, dreamcast, gamecube, ps1, ps2. These are the highest in my priority list, the nostalgia, childhood memories... I'm excited to play all from lb. Sms is the first console i had, i'm a gamer since the 80's... @neil9000 Thank for the info, i will check it out.

I wasn't clear enough i think. 1. I want to have all emulators and roms (mame and all console emulators that exist) including all additional files with launch box (video snaps, images, additional software, etc.). I estimate something like 8TB (?) could be enough for it all but i think i will grab one of the latest 4TB seagate barracuda internal 3.5" hdd for start and add 1-2 more drives in the future. Anyone has experience with that hdd? Also, i heard 3TB and 5TB are not recommended because reports of drive issues. Only 2TB and 4TB are recommended. I don't know how accurate this is. 2. I'm a bit concerned of not having a backup drive but i take the risk... Does lb and emumovies have any backup features? I have lb premium and also emumovies "executive producer" (the unlimited dl) account. How do you backup all your emulation related files if at all?
-
What features are recommended for 3.5" internal hdd jam packed with launch-box, emulators, non-merged roms including any other additional files (and also maybe a few modern pc games) for playing while also sharing the roms and chd in a torrent tracker? Any specific features i should look for? I think in direction of 3-5TB, it may only store mame related files but i think that its good enough for start.

1. I tried some shaders returned it to 0 but the effect won't disappear even after i exit retroarch... How do i disable it? Its a colorful grid display show effect all around the game window. 2. Any chance someone here know how to configure or where to dl these right and left bezel art in with 4:3 aspect ratio in between? I'm looking for a FULL mame roms bezel pack of these. Example: 3. So it is better to use lbp with parent mame instead of ra mame. How do i make ra work with parent mame in lbp? How can i disable ra mame from loading games? 4. So what is the point of having ra? Only for controller mapping for the different emulators and possibly shaders configuration? 5. So ideal solution for lbp is mame non merged roms and mame chd (which is merged by default and the only option). Bios are not needed with mame non-merged roms, only with partial split or merged roms, i read. For other emulators, Does arcade boards/consoles like neo geo, cps2, megadrive, snes, etc. need their own roms, chd and bios devices files to be downloaded separately if played in their own unique emulators through lbp (not through mame) or can they use the mame software list roms/chd's/bios? 6. In case i buy hdd that will not have enough space to store all lbp arcade and console files, say, i buy only 3TB hdd: Will lbp operate perfectly fine in case the files it reads (roms, images, retroarch, etc.) are spread between different physical and virtual drives? I just purchased the unlimited emumovies downloads (45$ with lbp coupon code) with never needing to renew the account, That is what i mean by "executive producer": http://emumovies.com/acctupgrades/

I just bought launchbox premium and i use it with retroarch (only for mame gaming atm) and my aim is eventually to have all possible content that lbp offers for arcade and consoles: 1. How do i reset retroarch shaders to the original default state? 2. Any recommended shaders for enhancement effects that do not hurt the credibility of the game graphics for mame gaming? I'm looking for perfectly balanced effects (i don't want my games to look like they are from old crt with those "weird" distortion, overly soft, etc. effects) with nice scanlines, accurate brightness, contrast, etc. Any recommended settings? My display is 42" led tv. Is it possible to make different display effects for each console and/or emulator? 3. How can i make my games play with right and left side bezel art ONLY while 4:3 aspect ratio is in between (top and bottom are taken by the game window)? This configuration makes perfect use of traditional16:9 display as there is no wasted space - saw a few youtube demonstrations, it looks really nice. 4. What is the difference between retroarch and rocketlauncher? Is there better solution than retroarch for lbp? 5. Does launchbox premium and emumovies (with all executive producer paid content) is everything i need to get every possible image/cabinet/videosnap/info, etc. that lbp and bigbox can display? Should i dl some files from other sites/trackers to complete the front end and make it look the best? Are there more content to dl from emumovies for lbp aside what lbp syncs from emumovies? Are there other beneficial addons for lbp/bigbox aside of retroarch? Is it worth buying em executive producer content? 5. Should i only dl non merge roms and chds for maximum compatibility with lbp for both arcade and consoles? 6. Is it recommended to use mame software list (mame console roms) with lbp? 7. how much storage space should i need to store all possible arcade and console non merged roms, chd, bios (assuming non merged roms are the ideal solution for lbp) including any other content (images, videosnaps, lbp and retroarch software, etc.)? I'm planning to buy a new hdd this year and i need to know how much TB should i need. What is the ideal hdd settings? internal or external (i always prefer internal 3.5 type hdd's)? Is it recommended to split lbp content between several hdd's and/or virtual drives? I have so many questions and that is after watching several tutorials... Thanks in advance.

It was showing 0/0 for some reason even though it displays the boxes art then i pressed download images/data then it dl and showed more pics options like cabinet, arcade board, etc. inside the edit window. Is there any way to display the different images of each game outside of going full screen (outside of pressing the zoom in icon on a game)? How can i dl all the roms related images and video files globally? I can't imagine myself entering each of my mame games to edit each as i have full mame rom set.
-
Lb already downloaded a lot of files for a few hours after i launched it for the first time and directed the mame rom folder in it... So all it did do was downloading the "boxes" art only?
-
1. If i need to enter mame.ini or exe to direct to the roms and chd than what's the purpose of lb's "edit platform/folders window/game" directory? So if i understand correct, only the roms and chd folders need to be directed from the parent and the rest like artwork, marquees, etc. needs to be directed from lb? 2. I download all my mame related files from PD. Will they 100% work with lb or i'll need to dl all mame related files from emumovies from the beginning? 3. What is the problem with merged and lb? I won't be able to dl none merged or split because my hdd is almost full atm and i don't want to delete my merged files.
-
1. How can i make lb recognize the chd (merged) folder without moving them to the roms (merged) folder? My merged roms are in their own folder and the chd's are in their own folder. I would like to keep it this way. 2. Where is the option in lb to play videosnaps? I directed lb to my videosnaps folder and btw, it says that auto play of videos exists only in lb premium... That's, how shell i say it, surprising... I guess they want us to pay for big box. I wouldn't mind paying one time if it means free future updates forever but at this stage i'm really not considering paying for it unless i can make lb actually work as intended. 3. How can i make lb present all the image type lists it offers to show? For image type, only boxes art is working. Does lb only downloads the boxes art for me and for the rest i need to provide the other image type? I have mame "extras" folder with additional zipped/in folder files (artwork, cabinet, marquees, game over, logo, etc.). Do i need to direct lb to each of the extras folder additional files like i directed to the videosnaps folder? 4. How can i make lb work with mame software list roms (merged) folder? Btw, the roms did not launch because mame.exe was not directed to the roms folder. I did not know i should have even entered mame since in qmc2 for example everything is directed only from qmc2. I wonder why lb need the user to enter mame.exe and direct it to the rf since lb is already directed to the rf... Why things have to be so complicated? I say this because lb is presented as an easier frontend to setup. I don't really find lb easier to setup than qmc2.
-
I'm am disappointed and frustrated with setting my emulation gaming since i'm coming from qmc2 which already made me frustrated and look for easier frontend to setup. I also read that hyperspin is even much harder to setup though its absolutely gorgeous frontend and i desire it but i just don't feel like being frustrated anymore so i read lb is very easy to setup... Great, so i dl it but things still don't run frustration free. I have the latest mame 0.185, lb, directed lb to mame64 exe file, imported roms 0.185 (merged), told lb to play the mame roms from their current location, the setup was done with only 2 errors as you can see in the image. Great, now i pressed to play a game but lo and behold, they won't run as the run window is terminated 1 second after it launch... Both lb and mame are located in the same drive. I searched a bit in the forum but found nothing. 1. How do i make lb run mame games? 2. How do i fix the 2 errors seen in the image? 3. How do i make lb play video snaps for each game? I have mame video snap files if needed. 4. Do the mame chd files need to be set in the same manner as setting mame rom files? 5. Would it be a problem of lb and mame were located in different drives? Thanks in advance...
