I'm not really using any, I just imported the roms and located Altirra's exe application. So far i'm only managing 5200 rom's with it. Are there any useful command lines for it????, Only thing i'm missing is the option to map a controller button to exit the emu.
-
I use Altirra as my primary emu for 5200 games, And then a combination of Kat5200 and Mess for the rest. I'm actually not having any problems with pitfall and moon patrol (Altirra does a fine job there). What i'm having the biggest issues with is the in-game settings like switching difficulty settings or switching between 1 and 2 player, Finding a keyboard command can be quite difficult.

I kind of fixed it (sort of). I deleted all the config files for mess and started over mapping the controls, But strangely enough it still acts up a bit. I tested it now on ms pacman and right when i start the game it acts up a little by going in the opposite direction, And then it's like it's calibrating itself after a few seconds?????. Tested my controller on some regular pc games, And it acts absolutely fine with them. ?????

I even set all other controller inputs to none, To make sure no other inputs weren't interfering. But it still does this weird opposite thingy.

Hi guys, It's me again with never ending Atari 5200 emulation problems and weird issues??. Today we have a new one (I'm quite litteraly going mad), For some reason MESS has decided that my left analog is down when i'm trying to configure it as "UP" under Input general/player 1 controls. When i configure the left analog stick and press it "UP" it chooses "DOWN???? And opposite when i press it down it configures as "UP"?????. I tested my controller with other games and emulators without any issue, But it seems to only do this with MESS. My Atari 5200 collection is nearly complete and perfect (Gotten to letter R).

It could be fun with a dedicated sub-forum with High-scores for more known titles. It's funny with Asteroids, So incredible simple and yet so damn addicting
-
Wow cool enough and thank's, How on earth did i miss this from countless of hours googling this issue?? Should have googled "Atari 5200 asteroids hack" ?
-
If it acts normal, Then i can't argue against it. I just have to tell my OCD to move on i guess ? BTW i got a score of 38500(- + a bit) even with the oddly controls. Beat that and remember to post it.

Ha ha it's pretty weird. Best option is to just stand still in the middle of the screen and defend yourself, Start thrusting and it often goes completely wrong.

Okay, Thank's for the head up. I already have the newest version version of kat5200, But i don't have the newest version of Altirra, And It sounds like it has some interesting new features. If the improvements works as intended it could very well be my primary choice for 5200 emulation (Easier than having 5 different). Yes!! they certainly all have their quirks and the info about 5200 emulation is so sparse that it takes ages to set them up properly, There are only 1 emulator i simply can't figure out how to boot, And that is Atari i800win+, I can run the i800 core, But the i800win+ simply refuses to accept the bios roms. Talking about issues with controllers, Do you know how to configure Asteroids to an analog stick?, The ship behaves very oddly and often chooses it's own actions (I love that game)

I figured it out. When i clicked on display under view the "Insert cartridge screen" came back, And i could save the firmware and make a new copy of Beamrider and make it work again. Still strange though????
-
Hi guys. It seems that my problems emulating the Atari 5200 never comes to an end, Now i'm having a problem with Altirra that i simply can't wrap my head around. Yesterday i spend some time learning how to boot the rom "Beamrider" from Altirra without having to select the mapper each time, I selected the save firmware/save cartridge to set the header of a raw dump (Beamrider), And everything seemed fine. But today when i boot it Altirra only shows a gray screen with sounds of the game playing, The only way i can get the game screen back is by selecting "enable debugger" ??? Altirra also asks to select the mapper again??. Also tried to delete the game and find a different rom, But after saving it in Altirra i still get the gray screen and asked to select mapper.

My point was that the stand-alone version is mostly abandoned.

I wonder why it got abandoned ? A very fitting name indeed

Thank's again, I did this in the mess.ini and it didn't change anything, But when editing the a5200.ini like this it worked. Now i can finally complete the Atari 5200 platform. Messed a bit around with messui just before you replied, That didn't look less complicated

Hi guys. Looking for a little help with the emulator MESS. What i'm trying to achieve is getting it to boot directly into fullscreen and scale to 1920x1080 when launching it from Launchbox. Been reading a guide on how to change it in mess.ini, But it dosn't seem to respond to it?? ( of course i'm not doing it right) What do i need to change?, Or is there a command line i can use in Launchbox?. Regards.

Problems with running the i800 core directly from Retroarch??
ModerateNOOB replied to ModerateNOOB's topic in Emulation
Thank's for trying to help, That was really nice of you :). I also came to that conclusion that it must have a problem saving the configuration in the i800 emu itself after selecting the Atari 5200 machine, But for some reason it wouldn't save the config after exiting the emu. Gave up and am now using MESS instead. Have a good day -
Hi guys. I'm trying to setup and configure the i800 core on Retroarch to boot Atari 5200 games directly from Retroarch itself. I have all the correct bios files, And they are all placed in Retroarch's system directory. i boot up retroarch. i select the i800 core. i chose load content. i select the 5200 rom i want to play. then this screen pops up. i press F1 and gets the menu screen. I select system rom settings. Locate the bios roms in Retroarch system folder and press space to select them. After selecting the directory, i go to system settings/Machine and choose Atari 5200. (Save on exit emulator is also set to "YES") After doing this the game will boot when i exit the emulator, But each time i want to load a game from Retroarch i have to go through the console again and re-select Atari 5200 under system settings/machine. Are you supposed to through the console every time?, Are there some settings i need to configure on Retroarch as well?. Sorry!! still in learning process and could have completely misunderstood everything. All i want is to boot 5200 roms directly from Retroarch and then set it up on launchbox

How do i update Retroarch's cores in launchbox??
ModerateNOOB replied to ModerateNOOB's topic in Troubleshooting
Ha ha ha ha thank's. That dropdown is actually quite hard to spot if you don't know it's there. more knowledge added to my library. Thanks's that was quite nooby -
Hi guys. I have a few GBA roms which only works with mGBA, So i've decided to use retroarch's Mgba core to run them. They work fine when im using retroarch itself to run them, But after importing them i can't figure out how to use the mGBA core from retroarch on launchbox??. Most of my roms uses Visualboyadvance-m as default (not through retroarch), But After importing the new roms the only core retroarch has on Launchbox is the vba core?, It's the only core that shows up under editing even though i've already downloaded mGBA on Retroarch. Sorry if this has been asked before, I did spend an hour scouring through post before writing this.

Hi. Higan, Gambatte, Sameboy and visualboyadvance-m are very good and covers a wide range of games, But there's still a decent amount of unlicensed games they can't handle. What emulators are good at emulating such kind of games?, Until now i've found one named hhugboy but there's still a good amount it won't run. So delving down in the underground gb/gbc gba emulation scene, Any good suggestions (there's so many emulators to choose from)?. Regards

Question about running GB games with retroarch core.

Cool. I'll just let it handle my GBC rom's as well. Lot's of work ahead. -
Question about running GB games with retroarch core.
ModerateNOOB replied to ModerateNOOB's topic in Troubleshooting
Ah! sorry about that, Thougt i read somewhere that Visualboyadvance could emulate all 3 Nintendo handhelds with almost no issues. Gambatte ran the game i was having trouble with, But it surely does not like analog sticks for some reason. dosn't matter to me really, Gameboy games are supposed to be in black/ white , And with no analog controls Thank's for your time. -
Hello everyone. just started out emulating my Nintendo gameboy roms, But i'm stuck on a rom that won't get past the start screen (it gives a white screen after the intro) So far i tried visualboyadvance-m, Higan and Mednafen (all with the same result), And then i thought that as usually retroarch would probably run it. I opened retroarch and downloaded all the gb cores, But when i right click on a game in launchbox there's no option to launch it with retroarch?(i already added retroarch), And if i edit the rom to launch with retroarch nothing happens. Regards.

Thank's for mentioning Archive.org, Found what i was looking for. Just a little surprised that only retroarch with the genesis core seems to run them.
