CadetStimpy
Most of ya probably already know about this, but if not, it's looks as if it might be somewhat useful. [Click on the blurb below] There's even an emulator for this! (I was weaned on Digital's PDP line. I initailly used paper-tape, too, similar to what's shown in the photo ). DOS76
I love that the computer is the size of a vending machine it makes me laugh considering I rode to the shore today and watched Plex and played games on my Windows tablet while driving there and this just puts perspective on how far things have come. I imagine my tablets 16GB drive is bigger than what ever that computer used. Is that things so old that it predates the hard drive?
Zombeaver
The Commodore 64 has "64" in its name because it had 64 KB of RAM. "Oooooh ahhhh!" Now, 34 years after the release of the C64, I have 32GB of RAM in my main PC, which is 33,554,432 times more than it had. Technology typically advances pretty exponentially. It's actually kindof amazing how close to reality Moore's law proved to be; though, from what I've read, it's become a bit less accurate from 2013 onward and apparently we're starting to hit a point of "saturation". It's still amazing to think how far we've come in such a comparatively short amount of time.

Yup, it had a hard-drive, but it wasn't big (base configuration was a 5MB model). If ya wanted some 'serious' storage, ya added on a washing machine-sized peripheral, such as an RP06 (178MB). When I was a Computer Operator, I used those a lot to do Backups.
Lordmonkus
That's not a computer, that's a laundry machine. Hell todays laundry machines have more computing power in them lol.
Zombeaver
What's the deal with that anyway? I picked up a new Washer and Dryer pretty recently and while shopping around for them there were like Samsung models with a freaking full-color LCD screen on it and like cameras of the wash. Like...really? Do we really need this? Edited August 11, 2016 by Zombeaver

Like...really? Do we really need this? Good choice with the Jeff quote, Zombeaver. It is getting insane, that's for sure. Saw a fridge in Home Depot the other day for $4500. You could buy a lot of other cool stuff if ya got the $500 one instead. Edited August 11, 2016 by CadetStimpy Testing...
Zombeaver
Exactly! I was just like "Are people actually so bored that they want to spend an extra $2000 to watch a closed-circuit feed of their clothes being washed? How about putting that into... I don't know...an actual TV?!" We ended up with a very basic model. It washes and dries just fine!
CadetStimpy
I'll confess I've watched my laundry agitate on more than one occasion, but I don't need to do that remotely!
Lordmonkus
4500$ fridge ? Oh hell no, 500$ fridge and that leaves 4000$ for a nice new gaming PC and HTC Vive thank you very much.
