assert.moe
Hey, I really like LaunchBox and want to buy a premium license to support your great work! The website says the license 'includes all future upgrades for one year', and I just wonder is there a lifetime license available? Thanks. Jason Carr
Hi assert.moe, I am considering adding this soon, but I don't have it in place yet. What would you consider a fair price for the lifetime license?
Zombeaver
I've wondered about this myself. $50 would be the equivalent of 2.5 years of yearly licenses which seems pretty fair to me. From other software that I've used that work on some type of subscription model, the lifetime option (if there is one) tends to be between 2-3 years worth in price. I think $60 might be pushing it, honestly. Some type of upgrade option for current premium users would be nice too :)
assert.moe
Thanks for your reply and I agree that $50 should be a nice price. Just for your information, I am using a software called MediaMonkey for managing my music collection and it offers an annual license of $25 and a lifetime license of $50. DOS76
So Jason if I already have a license when the year is up how much is it to renew? I've been using LaunchBox since March and didn't realize that the license is renewable not that it is a big deal I just didn't notice or is that something you have added since I purchased it and I'm grandfathered into an older agreement. I paid $150 for my Plex Pass and $96 for 8 years worth of Subsonic (which I would have skipped if I would have discovered Plex 1st). I would definitely be interested in the lifetime license model if you were to implement that.
Jason Carr
The license expirations are actually a new thing within the past couple of months; after consulting with some business people, I have to make sure that LaunchBox stays around for a long time so that I can keep developing it, and after some research and thought, it seems necessary. So anyone who purchased LaunchBox before something like two months ago (I don't have the exact date off hand) will be grandfathered and will indeed have a forever license (as was promised at that time). However, anyone who purchased after that date will need to purchase a $10 upgrade fee in order to upgrade to new versions after the year is up (though LaunchBox of course will continue to work as-is without issues). I agree that $50 is a good price for a forever license, so I'll look to add that option soon. Thanks for the discussion guys. :)
