master333 Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Does anyone know how to make sure the diagnostic settings you make in Retroarch for CPS2 and NeoGeo (the FBA cores) can be saved? I change the difficulty of SSF2T and when I exit and restart it is back to how it was. I change Metal Slug to enable blood and after a restart and exit it is back to default. Can these settings be stored within retroarch? Quote
Zombeaver Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'm not sure if there's a way to do this honestly. In the case of MAME cores, RA's own settings will override those settings, like custom controls for example. Are you doing this through the Core Options menu? Those settings should stick. You should be able to enable diagnostics/service mode, etc. Quote
master333 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 when just choosing the core it says no core options available. when loading a game i get options like diagnostics and so on but it doesnt stick. oh well i will have to setup the games as i play them each time or use an alternative to retroarch for cps1, cps2 and neogeo. Zombeaver Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Regular old MAME is pretty great for all of those. I've used MAMEUI as well and it's very easy to setup. I really didn't/don't like the way RA handles custom controls for some of the more complex/unusual control layout arcade games. HLSL is also generally better than the shader options you get from RA if for no other reason than the fact that RA doesn't rotate the shaders for rotated screen games, and they look awful as result. Only a few shaders (like CRT Easymode) actually work properly regardless of screen orientation. HLSL in MAME, however, rotates properly. Quote
Lordmonkus Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Mames new BGFX really advances HLSL to be way better than it ever was. Quote
master333 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 just got mame 0.178 and it runs lots of games but doesn't run my cps2 cps1 games. keeps saying rom or chd is missing. what bios name do i need to get for cps1 & 2? Quote
spycat Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Hi master333. The CPS2 games issue has nothing to do with the QSound Device. The 0.178 version of MAME requires each CPS2 game romset to have a KEY file named after the rom: 1944.key, avsp.key and so on. Your CPS2 game romsets need to be updated to MAME 0.178 compatible versions which contain these new KEY files. I haven't had any issues with CPS1 games on updating to Mame 0.178. Quote
Lordmonkus Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Good to know that 178 adds another file to be needed with these games. 177 still works fine with the older rom sets though. Quote
master333 Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 tested and i like using mame for cps2 and neogeo and cps1 now. I can use cheats too! using good old 0.141 for Dec 2010! HLSL is no good for me - those scanlines are unsightly! Only issue is its 9:35pm gmt and downloading the next version of launchbox is taking forever! also trying to redo my launchbox library for those platforms as well is taking so long for launchbox to get the info before updating it must be a busy time?! will try again later. Lordmonkus Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 What version of Mame are you using ? Pre 172 HLSL was shit looking and the 177 version now has BGFX which is better again. But then again if you don't like scanlines or the crt look then you probably won't like that either. Quote
