simisays
Hello, I recently began to contribute to games DB. In particularly the Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper games for the PS2. But one thing I see is that a lot of PS2 Games have fan art which is related to the series/franchise but not the specific game. For instance, God of War and Medal of Honor: Frontline have fan art of later instances of the series, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy has artwork of Jack 2 and 3 ect ... I personally prefer to only use game specific artwork , like official wallpapers, because they more represent the game in question. But I want to hear what the moderator/contributor consensus is on this matter before I start deleting those images. Thanks
Cebion
Exactly this. I'm no expert on some specific games but if I see that a fanart is from the series and not from the specific game I reject it.
SentaiBrad
Those are leftovers from the GamesDB conversion and just haven't been fixed up yet. However, this scenario should already be in the guidelines, so.
Zombeaver
Hell, in some cases I'd say we're doing good if it's even series specific. I've seen some stuff that's extremely questionable - like various Batman games having really generic Batman desktop-wallpaper-looking "fanart" or Alien games having what looks like promotional artwork from the movies... I delete this stuff from my personal library as soon as I see it. It seems to me that unless it's something that's actually associated with the specific game it shouldn't be accepted. Personally, I'd rather have no fanart at all than shoehorn in stuff that has little to no relation to the game itself.
DOS76
I have a few super hero games that have like cool ass art from an issue or a wallpaper and even though they don't have anything to do with the game I think they look good so I'd be torn in some cases. Which is why I've never submitted actual delete requests on the DB when I've seen them - I realize that it's sortof a matter of personal taste. I just think it makes things look disjointed and mishmash so I don't keep them in my library. Here's some examples of what I was talking about: Batman (Genesis) Batman Forever (Genesis) Batman Forever: The Arcade Game (Saturn) Batman Forever: The Arcade Game is particularly hilarious given that one of them is from Batman Begins and the other looks like a screen capture from a VHS tape The other two have what is clearly just a generic Batman wallpaper that has nothing to do with the game itself. Again, it's a matter of personal taste, but if I had a "vote" it'd be for them to be game-specific.
DOS76
yeah none of that bothers me at all I guess deleting them really doesn't either so I'm easy either way
simisays
I think this issue can be easily fixed by dividing the background images in 2 categories Background - Wallpapers: for all the official wallpapers and promotional images for that specific game, preferably with the company's logo removed. Background - Fanart: for all the images which are at least somewhat related to that specific game Both of these categories must follow rule 9 of the Moderator Guideline. What do you guys think ?
