Hidden games - performance boost?

I'm currently going through MAME to cut it down (seriously don't need all the games there), and was thinking about hiding them instead of deleting them altogether from the list. My question is - does LB still process hidden games in the backend? True, I can check it out myself and get a subjective opinion, but I don't know how LB is coded.

Yes and no? It's hard to really answer. @Jason Carr would need to clarify as he would know the best obviously, but I don't recall it providing a huge performance boost. How many extra mame games do you have? Did you uncheck a ton of boxes during the MAME Rom Importer?

I only unchecked Rhythm Games, have a total of about 1200. Will be cutting it way down but am just curious about the effects of hiding games instead of reimporting (which in itself isn't a biggie, either).

It still has to read the xml... but it doesn't display the boxart.... haha... I'm not sure. I do the same thing, though. I usually hide the games missing box art.

It will speed up presentation things slightly, but filtering and such, no, since it still has to filter through them, hidden or not. That said, with the latest versions performance really shouldn't be affected too much by collection size.

Okay, I'll see. I'm one of those that have a K series intel CPU so I've always had bad lag and stuttering when scrolling on Big Box. Thanks for the posts with recommendations about that, I think it may require a CPU change to finally smooth things out.

@bikeking8, sadly it isn't likely to do much to help scrolling performance in Big Box. Also, honestly I'm not convinced that anything has to do with having a K series CPU. The "k" simply means that the CPU is unlocked and overclockable.

Could have sworn I saw a post about that. But anyways I switched to RetroFresh Detailed Theme and it's blazing now.

What theme were you using previously ?

The default one, and a few others. Haven't had as many stutterlag problems with Retrofresh Detailed, if any.

Well, I made a theory post, because I saw a lot of people reporting performance issues and 90% of them had a K series CPU. So I was wondering if the K series did something that wasn't playing nice, but it was purely a theory.

One thing worth noting is that the Favorites and Recent boxes on the platforms screen can be cause for delays. Perhaps that's what you were experiencing @bikeking8?
