roy1975 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 https://www.mesen.ca/ Just tried out this new NES emulator the other day and I'm really impressed with it. I'd been using Nestopia the last couple of years but figured I'd give this new one a shot. To my surprise, it's the first NES emulator I've used in which the turbo in Super Mario Bros. works as I remember it. Every other emulator I'd used (like, all the way back to Nesticle), the turbo button didn't seem to work fast enough and it meant I couldn't pull off moves I used to do on the real hardware. I thought maybe it was just my skills that had deteriorated but I tried it out on Mesen and I was doing all the stuff I used to do on the game without any problems. Only problem with it is that it seems twitchy about remapping the controller, at least with an Xbox360 pad, but that's not a huge headache for a controller that mostly just uses two buttons. Quote
Lordmonkus Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Yeah, Mesen and puNES are probably the two best NES emulators right now in terms of emulation quality. From what I have read the Bizhawk NES core extremely good as well, they claim it's 100% accurate. Quote
dov_EL Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 ps . nes mini classic from nintendo , is accurate 50/60% ? Quote
Lordmonkus Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 A puNES or Mesen core would be awesome. The latest Mesen auto flips and loads Famicom Disk System games now. 1 Quote
crusadeRGP Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Anyone know how to make this emulator portable? It currently saves everything in the documents folderSent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk Quote
Lordmonkus Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 None that I am aware of but I also have only tinkered with it to check it out. I use Retroarch with the Nestopia core for my daily use NES emulation. But if I were to use another one I would use puNES, that's just personal preference though because puNES allows me to use some RA shaders. 1 Quote

Lordmonkus Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 That does appear to work. I had my Mesen_p.exe in a folder called Mesen 0.90, after renaming and running Mesen_p.exe it then generated a sub folder called "Mesen" which contains a bunch of files and sub folders. Quote

damageinc86 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I can't map controls on this. A window flashes super fast, and I have managed to get it to recognize the press of my SNES usb controller buttons if I am fast enough before the window flash is over, but even then, it only recognizes start and select in game.
