Hi. I been happy with my instalation for a while now. So im back a fue updates.

The issue:  My 5year old is enyoing my arcade cab. I only got mame in one section.

He navigate between games by him self. The problem is when he find some bloody wargame mortal combat like game.

So im thinking there must be a way to make bigbox boot into a filtered game list or something with just child friendly games.

Does anyone have some solution to keep my 5year old away from mortal combat? :)

I kan't help someone who spells Mortal Kombat as mortal combat.  LOL.

You kould, ahem, sorry, could make a kid friendly playlist using the playlist feature, but I don't think there is any way to keep him from navigating to the main MAME platform. Unless there is some way to use the unlock feature and a way to "hide" everything but the kid friendly playlist behind it but I can't think of a way off the top of my head. You could have 2 separate instances of Launchbox but that would be unwieldy, especially on a cab.

A "parental lockout" or "profiles" feature is on the to do list but I have no idea when it will come.

For now I would suggest a 2nd install of Launchbox pointing to the same emulators and only the games you want them to have access to. You can either do the 2nd install and add the game you want or copy your LB install folder and remove the games you don't want.

I know it's not the most elegant solution but it's the best I can offer for now.

yeah, i have the same issue. currently the only real way is a 2nd LB install like @madpossum suggested. i don't want to do that, so i just don't give them free access without me there.  so i set the playlist view for them and just make sure they stay there :)

Edit: if there was just one tiny little setting to prevent a user from switching the view (as well as the current lock feature) without a pin/password or something, that would solve it for me. then i could just leave the playlist view. simple.

Edit again: oh man, maybe that wouldn't work either, because i want to use playlists also. i guess they would see all playlists. maybe the custom filters for this since i don't use those for myself...

I can totally understand your concern about your child stumbling upon inappropriate games on your arcade cab. I haven't personally tried it, but I believe there are software programs that allow you to set up a ""child mode"" or filter for games. One such program is called ""Gameroom,"" and it allows you to customize which games are available for your child to play. You might want to look into that!
Also, I recently came across an article that talks about ways to support foster parents in educating kids. It has some great tips on how to engage children in positive activities and games, which might be helpful for your nephews. Here's the link: fosterplus.org. Hope it helps!
