Mame issues

Mame has always worked fine for me, hadn't been on my cabinet in a while got on fired up launchbox and suddenly mame wont launch. so i tried outside of launchbox no luck. Doesnt load at all. Transferred the whole mame  directory another windows 10 computer and everyting works fine. The 2nd computers windows 10 hasn't been updated in a while so i'm guessing something happend in a windows update. This all happend about 3 months ago. Hoping someone hear might have an idea whats going on. Driving me crazy. PS all my other emulators still work just mame wont load. Thanks

If you moved stuff check your directories, especially if your roms are in a different folder.

No nothing was changed or moved ,  just after it quit loading I love the whole mame folder to another windows 10 computer that hasn’t been updated in awhile and all worked normally there

Mame is generally pretty good about not requiring dependencies to be installed.

I don't know what version of Mame you are using but can you load it up without any games and get into its UI ?

The UI will load but if you launch a game nothing happens and either closes or crashes the ui not sure which one, but on the other desktop with the excact same files everything works fine. Also it had been working for a long time on mu arcade cabinet then one day went to play and this happened. Strange

Ok so that tells me when you moved the stuff to the other computer something changed. Most likely it's your roms path, where are your roms stored and did you update your rom path in Mame ?

My roms are stored in the rom folder inside of the mame folder. Looks to be set right and when i move to other computer i dont change path and it works. Also when you click on the mame.exe on the cabinet it doesnt load, but the other computer it loads just fine and you can select a game and it will run. The only thing that will launch on th cabinet is the mameui64.exe but then the roms will not launch.

Ok, i'm not sure what to tell you then. If your Mame isn't loading on its own that needs to get fixed first, I would try reinstalling a fresh setup of Mame to see if that loads.

Could be though i'm unsure of what dependencies Mame has (outside of its roms) and I couldn't find anything on their website indicating any thing outside of its self contained self extracting exe.

yeah I wasn't thinking strictly mame, just the system in general.

When you say the UI will load do you mean the UI for mame.exe or are you saying MameUI.exe will load? Just asking to clarify as in a later post it sounds like you are saying only MameUI.exe will load. 

Are you using onboard graphics or dedicated graphics card? Wondering if maybe the video option got altered. I had that happen, I somehow  changed to d3d and the laptop I had mame on did not support it. So it would not launch.

It is something to do with the video options i went through the ui and check marked windows mode and it launches now. Now i just need to figure out what setting i need to get back out of windowed mode. I honestly think it may have something to do with that d3d you are talking about because i got some kind of a notice about it. What did you do yo change that back. I set all my stuff in the mame.ini file, 0 is full screen, 1 is windowed mode.

Still wont launch with those settings, had to be windowed on the arcade cabinet

Do you have the latest Direct X libraries installed ?

Maybe try changing the video driver to GL.

I do have the latest direrctX thats one of the first things i checked. Trying to go throughj my nvidia graphics settings right now just seems strange all the other emulators are fine.

Mame is fairly well self contained compared to most other emulators and programs, it's very strange that it works for you in windowed mode and not full screen.

Yes strange but works full screen when i move it to my desktop, driving me crazy

Yeah agreed, whats the resolution of your cabinet monitor? Is it a strange one?
