mrgoodtouches
So I've been enjoying bigbox and messing around with themes and such for a few weeks now. And building up a ROM library. Recently i launched big box and noticed its taking forever to load. And after the start-up video the screen stays black for it to continue loading ( takes about a full minute). And then if i go into the options menu. And back out it lags and has to load for another whole minute for it to be responsive again. All of the other aspects works fine. It's happening on multiple themes. I do have a 8,540 game library. ( I'm addicted now) but i loaded it up at around 7,800 games. And it loaded up fine and worked flawlessly. What could be causing the long load times?

I have aroung 15,500 games in my library and it runs just fine. What are your specs?

My specs are as follows: CPU i7 7700k GPU 1080 ti RAM 32 gb ddr4 I have my roms and launchbox all on the same hard drive. For easy moving. I'm not totally sure what caused it. I know i loaded in a bunch of PS1 files. And that's when it seemed to start. But i removed that platform to see. And it continues to do it. Hmm, you have much better specs than me. Not sure what to tell you there, i have my Launchbox on a 5400rpm mechanical drive but my image caches on my OS SSD drive. Bigbox takes less than 10 seconds to load for me, and is then smooth as butter.

These take some time to cache in as well if you have a lot of them.

I remembered i transferred the whole setup over to my external hard drive before it started happening. So i plugged that up into my desktop and it did the same thing. Plugged it into my laptop and it loaded up super quick. And is butter smooth. So idk what's conflicting with launchbox on my main pc. Lordmonkus
Well at least you figured out that it's not LB and it's your PC being a pain in the ass. PCs can be funny that way sometimes, working perfectly one day and then something tiny changes and you now have to track down what is causing a problem. Johnny T
Have you tried going into Task Manager and seeing what else is running and what CPU usage etc it's using? If it's running so slow then it might be something eating your CPU cycles. You could try just getting rid of background software one by one until you find what's causing the conflict. Another thing to check is your CPU temps. I recently had a problem with my cooler not working correctly and it was causing my CPU to go to 100% load when I ran BigBox (there was enough cooling to get away with Launchbox) and if I tried to do anything intensive in BB (such as audit a system) I got the Blue Screen Of Death. So, maybe download a small program like Core Temps and just make sure you're not over-heating?

I have a pair of klipsch bookshelf speakers with a 12" sub. Well awhile back when the game SCUM came out. The speakers messed with the mic input on that game so i unplugged them ( they were plugged in via usb) and since then I've left them unplugged. Before this issue happened i plugged them back up. And somehow that was causing the insanely long load times. Sucks because the speakers are amazing but until i figure out what causes it to conflict with my pc. I'll just hook them via Bluetooth. Thanks for the help guys! I never would have thought it was the speakers..... Big box runs smooth as butter now. Back to building my library ?
