I'm trying to configure LED blinky, launchbox etc.

I need to create the mame.xml file.....seems easy enough with instructions on LED Blinky "You can use the MAME executable file to generate the ROM list in xml format (MAME.xml). From a Windows command prompt (cmd.exe), execute this command: <path>\mame.exe -listxml > mame.xml."

On my computer MAME is at C:\Users\bran\Emulators and Roms\MAME\

when I do the command prompt I get C:\Users\bran

what am I missing? It doesn't allow me to enter the path C:\Users\bran\Emulators and Roms\MAME\   If enter C:\Users\bran>Emulators and Roms\MAME\ I get the message "Emulators is not recognized as an internal or external command." I'm unclear why there is a > instead of a \ in the command prompt - what am I missing....feel like clearing that up would solve this.

----

Separately I don't appear to have a mame.ini file - not sure why

Sounds like I should be able to go to the command prompt to put me in C:\Users\bran\Emulators and Roms\MAME\ followed by mame -cc to generate this. Correct?

yes that will work. you can also open MAME go to configure options and go to save current settings (or however it is actually worded) and that will create it also.

Open a command prompt and type cd than drag your MAME folder from Explorer into this window and hit Enter/Return. (Make sure a space after cd)

Now try running your command to create your xml file.

when I type cmd.exe the command prompt box opens and shows the path C:\Users\bran>

If I type CD i returns C:\Users\bran>            (same as was already there). Can't seem to move path this? What should I see after typing CD. drag the mame folder after but got

'"C:\Users\bran\Emulators and Roms\MAME"' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

You type cd and a space, than drag the mame folder from file explorer onto this window. Now hit return.

This is what happens when i type CD and space <return>

It returns:

C:\Users\brand

C:\Users\brand>

lol at this point you definitely should have followed my advice and did it through the UI

I agree but he needs the xml for LEDBlinky as well. (I suppose downloading it is also an option)

Are you dragging the mame folder onto this window before hitting <return>?

So you are dragging the MAME folder on the right, onto that command window.

Yeah - you're right...hit return first. thank you.

Hey, I found this while looking on how to create a mame.xml file.  I too need for the led blinky.

I read this thread and I was having the same issues in the command.

I opened Mame, and then pressed configure options and then save current settings.....but where does the .xml file get generated?  Thanks.
