Elcias Posted May 14, 2020 Share Posted May 14, 2020 Hi all I've been having this issue for quite some time now where Launchbox opens, then instantly crashes. I can run Bigbox without issue whatsoever. The crash only happens when using the Launchbox desktop app. I am running Windows 10 an don version 10.14 of Launchbox. Somehow the app has managed to update itself as this has been happening to me for several months now since about 3 versions ago. The last time I posted about this issue I found a temporary fix of deleting the settings file but this fix did not last long. I also had a few weeks where I could run Launchbox by first running Bigbox, exiting to desktop version then Launchbox would load and work fine. However none of the little workarounds are working for me anymore. Here is the log of my latest attempt to open Launchbox. Then before I have a chance to do anything, the app just closes and disappears. Strange thing is, BigBox works perfectly without issue. Prblem is I cannot read all of it as the Loading Interface remains in front obscuring my view. This is what I can make out from the error window. Source and destination path must be different. Just a guess looking at the error, but looks like a permission and/or potential issue with a folder LB is trying to access (assume you have LB on portable/remote drive?). It appears to be the Images folder. Might try renaming the ...:\LaunchBox\Images folder to "Images-Test" or something similar (so don't lose your image info) and see if LB launches. If does, then work backwards to replace image information to find the problem directory. Again, complete guess but that is where I would start based on that error. Renaming the entire images folder doesn't help (still crashes at start up) but I do notice a difference when renaming just the Cache-LB folder in the Images folder (I tried this as my BigBox works without issue and shares the same images folder, but different cache folder). Renaming it to Cache-LB.test let me start LB and allowed me to select Tools, options. Seems to work fine whilst in there but as soon as I leave the options window and revert to LB, when I clicked on an item to edit its properties, LB crashes again. I then closed the app without attempting to start or click on any game. Upon launching again, just crashed straight away. Attempted launch again then the splash screen with the new update features turns up again (this is after having ticked the box to not open that screen in future). Note that when that splash screen starts, it seems to help LB open and run. Again after closing the splash screen, I attempted to run the Clean Up Media tool this time for videos & music. Crashed with the following error report. rcamp48 Posted May 25, 2020 Share Posted May 25, 2020 Hi: I had the same problem, I updated to a 1 GB graphics card ad that all went away it now works perfect, if that helps. I was running on a 3 GB OptiPlex 745, with onboard graphics, the instant I upgraded to a 1 GB video card the problems went away. Also upgrading the ram to faster PC2:8500 SD-RAM chips, 4 of them so my friend will have an 8 GB system to play all of his games on. Seems too be I have the time to set it all up, but he wants a system with a floppy drive in it for doing Atari ST disks. All and all a nice retro system. Hope that helps. You Launchbox has run fine for me for years (even on a lesser before I upgraded 2 years ago). Ins only in the last few month this has started happening. Also I run Big Box without nay issues at all.
