NotHere
Good day all. Looking for a bit of help and hope someone can guide me. Before I start, I am at work writing from my iPhone without the system in front of me sorry if I miss any important information. Issue: My MAME Games will not launch from LAUNCHBOX. No matter what game it is it just won’t load the game whether I double click right click and play or click on open with MAME. Troubleshoot: I went on Google and searched my issue and found two or three post right here in this forum. I read through them I did more or less everything that was said to do which basically was tested in MAME and if it works make sure that all day directories are correct. I tested MAME and it gave me qsound error. Googled that and eventually found my answer. Tested MAME Again and it worked (was missing qsound file). Went into Launchbox and tried to update my MAME library as I had added a file but it said I couldn’t or it said that there was nothing new in the folder. I don’t know how to make sure launchbox knows I added qsound file either way I’ve selected any of the games went to info or options and looked at the directory where it was pointing to and it seem to have been pointing where my games are located. I also went to manage emulators and made sure that everything there was correct which from what I believe it was. I am still stuck on able to load any MAME games from Launchbox. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it and if I need to send any pictures I will do so as requested when I get home. Thank you so much for anyone who tries to help me fix this issue. Retro808
LaunchBox does not care about the support files like the qsound.zip or bios files. That is only relative to Mame. LB simply sends a command line to Mame to run the specified game. First thing to do is to always confirm your games launch directly in the emulator before importing. I know you said the game with the missing qsound file worked in mame. Is that the case for other games? Do they run in Mame? A few other questions: Did you import a selection of games or the full working Mame rom set? What Mame are you using (Regular command line Mame, MameUI, Arcade64) and what version (what version # is it)?
Shad8
@NotHere If you use the MAME standalone emulator, you have to put your roms files in the \MAME\roms folder too

It can be in any folder you want as long as you update the rom path inside Mame.

NotHere
Hi hi. Thanks for the reply. I am using: "MAMEUI64 v.221" I selected to import MAME Arcade full set. However, maybe I messed up. The FULL SET I have is "220 (merged)" (no matter how much I google and READ, I still cant figure out the difference between MERGED SPLIT or otherwise). Longer story: I had an OLD FOLDER full of MAME CHD files (I dont know what version it is as its old and not labeled, but I read you need CHD for some games?) inside their own folder, IE: C:/roms/mame/azumanga/gdl-0018.chd. SO what I did was, I moved that folder full of folders with CHD inside those folder and strange names to the MAME emulator dirtectory, IE: "Z:\=[Games]=\=[Console]=\MAME\MameUI64_.220 (merged)\ROMs\azumanga\gdl-0018.chd". In this same folder, I have ZIP files, IE: "Z:\=[Games]=\=[Console]=\MAME\MameUI64_.220 (merged)\ROMs\22vp931.zip". So what I did was get that 220 (merged) (not the lates, I think 221 is, but I didnt get that one so I used the 220) and moved all its files inside the ROMS folder overriding whatever it said to override as I assume MERGED means all the OLD version are already in there. SO basically I think I was updating whatever was new? I am getting Version 221 as I am writing this, SHOULD I move it to the ROMS folder and override anything if its asks me to do so? NotHere
And that’s game ;)!!! Lol. many idea how I can fix this?.... again, I just finished getting mame .221 (merged). If I want to start from scratch, should I delete all the files from the ROMs folder and place these? I don’t think I did anything to the FOLDERS that have CHD files in them, is that salvageable? Retro808
Also since you are using MameUI you need to make sure your Mame.ini file (not talking about the MameUI.ini) is in the root folder where the Mame exe is. MameUI likes to store the Mame.ini file in the Ini folder and it needs to be in the root so LB can have the command line work. This would be one of the main issue why LB could not launch the games.

Yes just delete the old roms and use the new ones.

Right now I have Mame.ini at "Z:\LaunchBox EDIT\LaunchBox\Emulators\MameUI64\INI\mame.ini".... Should I COPY it and paste it in: Z:\LaunchBox EDIT\LaunchBox\Emulators\MameUI64 and Z:\LaunchBox EDIT\LaunchBox 16 minutes ago, neil9000 said: Yes just delete the old roms and use the new ones. Thanks, I will do that now. Should I DELETE the old games from LB and do a new import? Since I am here let me ask; The CHD files, they are about 250GB, is that about right? Do I just leave the folders there without touching them, delete all the ZIP files and place the new ones there?

Which would be the same folder you would see the Mame64.exe and the MameUI.ini.
DOS76
the CHD files at only 250GB sounds like a older set that might be missing many games but considering many of the CHD files aren't in working order that may not be that big of a deal. You can try launching the games that work that require them and if they work then no harm if not then you will have to source new ones.
