ShiestGuy
so I followed the most recent tutorial to set up MAME, got 0.240, and all the games and game metadata installed, and boom, its not working. Every time I try to launch up a game, it gives a black screen for a few seconds and then goes back to launchbox. What do I do.
Retro808
I assume you mean the recent LB Youtube video where ETA shows how to use the full set importer? What version roms did you import and do your games run directly in Mame without using LB?

TommyTomorrow
I think it's not as easy as it seems. I have the same issue and it's the third day when I'm downloading different rom sets. ETA didn't mention if you have to copy MAME bioses to your roms folder or not, some rom sets don't have them. I don't even know if they are needed to work with MAME in LB? I've moved my roms from \LaunchBox\Games\Arcade to \LaunchBox\emulators\MAME\roms (I wanted to have all my platform emulators in "emulators" subfolder, I've checked paths in MAME ini and still many roms don't work. I have the newest 0.241 rom sets. I would really like to know what am I doing wrong? Deleting and importing new rom set and downloading the whole emumovies stuff for those roms takes so much hours everytime. Different rom sets have different size, downloading xx gigabytes takes hours too. I would like to know: - what's really needed for MAME to work? - what roms are needet for MAME to work? I mean... do I need bioses, samples, datafiles, etc.? - can I delete all MAME roms from LB without deleting media files (from emumovies) then add a new rom set then delete only media for roms I don't have (and how to do it right)? - how to delete one rom from the list and also its media files? - how to check why exact game rom doesn't work if the only thing you see after launching it is blank screen for a second Edited March 19, 2022 by TommyTomorrow
neil9000
9 minutes ago, TommyTomorrow said: - what's really needed for MAME to work? A full romset (in your case 0.241) and the matching version of the emulator. 9 minutes ago, TommyTomorrow said: - what roms are needet for MAME to work? I mean... do I need bioses, samples, datafiles, etc.? The romset is all you need for 99.9% of the games. Some do require a second file called a CHD, which is essentially a disc image file which newer arcades made use of via CD/DVD or HDD. 9 minutes ago, TommyTomorrow said: can I delete all MAME roms from LB without deleting media files (from emumovies) then add a new rom set then delete only media for roms I don't have? You only need to download media once, it is not deleted when deleting a platform unless you specify to do so. 9 minutes ago, TommyTomorrow said: how to delete one rom from the list and also its media files? Depending on the romset type you have you cannot delete ANY files from a mame romset, other unrelated games may use files in completely unrelated game zips. 9 minutes ago, TommyTomorrow said: - how to check why exact game rom doesn't work if the only thing you see after launching it is blank screen for a second MAME itself will give you a error if its a non emulated game or only has partial emulation. Essentially if you have a full 0.241 romset, and version 0.241 of the mame emulator, all working games will work. It is worth noting that a mame romset does contain a ton of roms that mame itself cannot actually emulate as of yet. TommyTomorrow
Thank you very much for all answers One last question - there are "rom packs", "rom sets", with different sizes, how can I know which one is really the complete rom set? The first one I've downloaded was 0.37b5 and it turned out to be incomplete because in example, such a well known game like Donkey Kong didn't work. I know the differences between split, merged, not merged sets. Edited March 24, 2022 by TommyTomorrow
Lordmonkus
If you Google for "pleasuredome git io" you will find the latest full Mame rom sets available.
