paulwgraber Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Ive been reading about image priorities in launchbox and I get that but there has to be an easier way to just be able to select what image you want as your front end. No? PG Quote

No? PG Default image in exactly which spot? If you are talking about in the middle pane of LB where the game list is you can set the image type per platform. If you have multiple images of a specific type you cannot tell LB which one of those to always display. You would have to have only 1 image. As far as setting a specific image type as the default just select a platform and in the top left of the window look for "Image Group" and select what image type you want as the default display for that platform. As mentioned you can set each platform to a different type. Quote
C-Beats Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 If you have multiple images in your highest priority image type you cannot pick which of them is used. If you want a specific image to be used, only have that image tied to the game. I'm unsure why you'd ever want to waste the space on the drive with images you DON'T want to see... Quote
paulwgraber Posted September 14, 2023 Author Posted September 14, 2023 OK that makes sense so just delete what I don't want. Still With such a sophisticated platform I think it would be easy to just be able to select a default for the game frontend pic. Quote

That's exactly how it's intended to be setup. Start with the image priority settings. Set which type you want displayed. Next, have only one image in the main type. This is the image that will be displayed. If the main image type does not exist then it looks for the second image type and the image within it... And so on. There is no point in having multiple box front images, just have the one you want to see, all others are just taking up space. The only types of images you would want multiple of are gameplay and Fanart backgrounds, all other categories like cart front, 3D cart, 3D box, clear logo, box front/back/spine would all only need one per category, the rest is wasted space. paulwgraber Posted September 15, 2023 Author Posted September 15, 2023 I never thought of it that way but your 100% right. Makes sense. Why the hell was I over complicating it. PG Quote
cpujunkie Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 If the art work is neat looking I like having multiple box art, disc, clear logos. Lunchbox will pick one from the multiples. Get to randomly see the cool / alternate art work. If I wanna keep it I change the image type from box front to fan art front box or whatever Quote

If I wanna keep it I change the image type from box front to fan art front box or whatever I'm the same way, especially for games i care about. I'm using launchbox as a kind of digital bookshelf and sometimes i like to fill up the game with extra images, artworks etc even if they don't directly show up in launchbox and can only be accessed by directly looking at the image viewer. Now as far as i can see, there seems to be no way to force a default. I tried creating different folders, using wierd ascii characters but launchbox picks up everything no matter what. If the image shows up in the image viewer, and it is in the same root folder as the default image you want, it will be added to the rotation of default images, at least for the box front it seems i may have been able to fool the program for other categories (for instance i have 3D images for the North American, Japanese and European version for the game but i was able to have only the North American cover show up in launchbox by putting the others in "alt" folders, but that trick doesn't work for box front images). The only way i found to get around this is put images in the various platform folders. So i'll put the image i want as default in say box -front and then i'll put the extras in epic posters, gog posters etc. They'll show up in the image view but they won't be selected as default. The only problem with that is that it gets a bit confusing in terms of the priorities IF you also want to have an ordered slide show, especially if you don't have the paid version since you are forced to stick to the default priority there. Eventually the difficulty of doing this tempered my OCD about having to have a lot of extra images for my favored games, heh. Edited April 8 by Opus132 Quote
