To be clear the tool I need is a compression tool that will make the disk-size smaller while keeping the image size exactly the same. I don't believe Fotosizer does that...unless I'm missing an option somewhere. I want to reduce megabytes.

My first thought was to report this to the bitbucket site, but it really is just a website issue and not an application issue. Is it @C-Beats or @faeran that deal with the website side issues?

We've had an individual or two doing some great work in the DB going through and using lossless image compression to replace a lot of overly large files with lossless versions that are significantly smaller in drive size. I've tried looking for good tools for this. All of them either seem to NOT really give lossless results, want to optimize the files in other ways including automatically making the images smaller in resolution\image-size or actually being a trial that will expire in two weeks and then they want you to fork over some cash. What I want is something that will install on windows, it can be command line but if it requires having to install Linux or python subsystems I really won't ever do it. I'd rather it be GUI, I'll me much more likely to use it if it is. Ideally it would be free for long term use. It could also be browser based, but every one I have tried there has been a big let down on larger files. Whatever I use MUST retain the image resolution and size. I don't want to join the resolution ratio argument in any way. Any help or recommendations would be very welcome. Thank you in advance!

Sorry about the very late response on this, I would like to point out that alt names reasons are not really broken. It is just that name changes must be done independently for moderators to see the reason you are giving. If you edit multiple things at the same time it will show up with the other changes. So if you want to change the name, the alt name and add an a bunch of other data to the game you should first, just change the name or alt name and give a reason, then the other name and give a reason and then all the other changes. Otherwise the info will show up in what will be the last thing, which is the other changes to the game. That said, if you *just* change the alt name and give a reason I do believe the moderators will see the reason given.

I would not, it will cause and has previously caused confusion and strife. If the game was ever released commercially during the normal lifespan of the platform (so a commercial 2020 release of a Vic-20 game is still Homebrew, because Vic-20 stopped being relevant in the 80's or so) this should be marked at Released and show the publisher. You could add a note to the text of the game saying on such and such a day this game was released to public domain, but that won't stop explosive reactions in my opinion, though I certainly would love to hear what others think on the subject. -

No, this is often correct. Many, many games were released as freeware aka public domain games, you will especially see this in the 8bit to 16bit era. There were even tons of public domain games gathered up and distributed on disks\CD to spread them prior to the internet, often for a very nominal fee to cover the media and a bit of time for the person making the compilation. Unlike shareware or licenseware which we tend to count as "released" these are often homebrew games that the owners made simply to have gone through the learning process of making a game and gave them away to the community to get feedback, praise and often some tips on how to make the game better from other hobbiest coders. Even some released games were given over to the public domain after they were no longer selling by the authors, in some cases with source code so that other up and coming coders could learn from the game, or even modify it and change it into a whole new game. The Amiga and C64 games we are seeing a bunch of right now are generally correct. The thorny bit is if they were FIRST released commercially and LATER made public domain by the authors. I believe it should be set as Released in this case and put the original publishers even if self published. However some sites like Amiga's Lemon and Hall of Light will only list the final status (because they will link to PD but not copyrighted games), so there may be more things labeled Public Domain in our DB than there should be, simply because of a limited amount of info on them. So if you see something entered as PD and someone else is changing it, both were working from the best info they had at the time of the entry and cut them some slack. -

Try your best, things get into the DB that shouldn't be there, or should be marked Fan Art. The nice thing to remember is that the DB is infinitely fixable and will be fixed. If you have the time and the inclination, fix what you can. You are right to reject what you cannot find, but be persistent. Use not just the normal websites ( https://www.theworldofcdi.com is a good one in this case) but try reverse image searches, which can often show if the disks are Fan Art creations. But accept you can't fix everything that people mess up. Slowness can be an indication of many things. Some entries take longer than others, full game entries longer than simple image replacements or additions. If there are a lot of new entries coming in, moderations can take longer. My last few moderations took only about 5-6 seconds each, but earlier it was taking longer. Things are also usually much slower when an update is about to come out. Though it is true, we are probably getting to the point where the old changes should be purged from changes status. We got a tremendous speed boost last time that was done. -

A search of the database shows that Crysis 2 Remastered hadn't yet been entered into the database, so I am doing that now. Likely the Final Fantasy remakes naming caused it to match the previous games. You can check and see here: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/#s -

I don't have a PS5 but I added Sony Playstation 5 as a platform, and gave it a random emulator, I then created a bogus BugSnax.rom file in the games folder that was created for it and imported it. It imported the game into my collection and got all the pertinent art. -

I just wanted to check back and give some additional thanks. I had a few requests several months ago and in addition to helping me create some difficult clear logos, you took the time to get me links to a couple of web resources that made me much more self sufficient. Both What the Font ( https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ ) and remove background ( https://www.remove.bg/upload ) have become tools I use daily and I've created a couple hundred clear logos using them, elbow grease and a liberal helping of GIMP. Thank you for helping teach a man to fish, I really appreciate it.

The degree symbol is not the same as superscript numbers. If it does change for those, I would expect to see a change to the game creation rules. -

To whomever is giving the person who is deleting C64 covers\box fronts an education I really appreciate it. They obviously didn't read the notes given to them with the last set they tried to delete, such as checking with GameBase64 before they tried to delete or make changes, so I'm not holding out much hope that this isn't the same person who submits the fake Wii games every week or so or the one that is obsessed with changing random game screenshots to things they obviously aren't like Control Panel info or Box fronts. However, it was nice to feel like someone is looking out for the platform. Thank you for addressing it quickly and knowledgeably. You made my day. -

I've seen Unlicensed used in relation to Nintendo/Superfamicom games that were not officially recognized by the platform rightsholder. Homebrew can be for games not officially published or for games that came out after the "natural life" of the platform. So if someone made a Nintendo game for sale now, the art wouldn't necessarily be fan art, but the game would be classified as a homebrew. Alt names should be used for each individual name. On the Fan Art Background vs Clear Logo issue. At one time it was stated that text in Fan Art backgrounds that interfered with reading the clear logos should not be used, but that is very subjective and logo sizes change all the time. Some have taken this to mean no text whatsoever, no matter how small, which seems like overkill.
