Scotsman replied to legolas119's topic in Noobs
Just an FYI, Contra Evolution supports the 360 controller without the need for JoyToKey -

Thanks, that's fixed it for me, I can now go to 125% before the background disappears
-
Yeah it is a bit weird cause it was fine before the upgrade when I was at 90% zoom. I am on a laptop connected to a 40'' TV so maybe a combination of that and the upgrade is causing something specific with my setup.
-
Although my resolution seems to be high enough, after reading this I messed about with the zoom on chrome and found that I need to go to 75% or lower for the background to show, anything higher and it's just a grey background

Tried clearing the cookies for the site and it's still the same. One thing I've noticed is when I select the Launchbox Dark theme I get the opaque banner at the top, and when I select any of the other 3, I get the transparent banner so there is some sort of change happening, it looks like it's just the background image that fails to load. My resolution is 1920x1080

That's the one I use that's how I noticed the difference. I'm using chrome which is up to date, I've cleared cookies and cache but still won't change. I also tried the Opera browser and it's the same on that. Just tried that and still no go unfortunately

I'm having a problem with the themes. It doesn't matter which one I select, I just get the dark grey theme. Other than that, everything's looking good.

It's just part of the program. As you can see at the top of the window there are nearly 38,000 machines, however MAME can only run 13,700 of them, so the Working catagory is a list of all the roms that MAME is capable of running and the Available catagory is a list of the actual roms that you have in the roms folder. I'm no expert in using mame and this is just my understanding of it so feel free to correct me if I'm talking crap.

You've got working roms highlighted thats why its showing 13700 roms. Click on Available and it should show 0

https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com Anyone can contribute to the database and after you've had 25 contributions accepted you can then start moderating the database as well.

When I'm moderating, the majority of people replace the lower quality images with the higher quality but a few are still adding them as new images so low res duplicates are still there. Now while I agree with you on that, sometimes these are the best possible images people can find, the internet can be a bit of a hit & miss when it come to quality. I often spend hours online looking for good quality images and occasionally the best I can find is a low quality pixelated mess. I'm not the biggest fan of these images myself, but if there's no images in the database for the game anyway and you can clearly see what game it's for and it's decent enough, then I don't see the harm in using them as placeholders until higher quality replacements can be sourced. I'd rather have low quality something, than no quality nothing

You're welcome UweBlab, Glad I could help.

You could use GIMP, it's a free alternative to Paintshop and Photoshop and has plenty of features that can help you accomplish what you're after. It's a bit confusing to use at first, if you've never used these kinds of programs before, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to help if you get stuck.

Try and get the No-Intro Romset, that's the one I have and all images download flawlessly.
-
The reason for that is there is no one-stop shop where we can get the images from and they're mostly found online, which isn't always the best quality, through peoples personal scans of which there aren't many or just reconstructing them, hence the variation. The real problem starts when you get to the retro systems as a few people didn't keep their boxes (I personally, and now regretfully threw them away), some kept them but are in terrible condition and some had no means or forethought of scanning them for preservation. I would love to have the perfect database as well but unless we can get high res scans of every box for every game ever released then it'll never happen.

Sounds like it was 93 zip files and in each zip it would have all region releases for that game, possibly including proto's, hacks and unlicensed etc. If it is the goodset here is a list of the country codes: Country code Country (A) Australia (As) Asia (B ) Brazil (C ) Canada (Ch) China (D) Netherlands (Dutch) (E) Europe (F) France (G) Germany (Gr) Greece (HK) Hong Kong (I) Italy (J) Japan (K) Korea (Nl) Netherlands (No) Norway (R ) Russia (S) Spain (Sw) Sweden (U) United States (UK) United Kingdom (W) World (Unl) Unlicensed (PD) Public Domain, free software and freeware (Unk) Unknown country

there seems to be a bug in my stats, don't know if I'm the only one. I add one image to the database and my total changes goes up by 3 but it also says I have 18 pending changes. Also, I went back over my submissions and I have only submitted a total of 432 changes but my stats say 1169 Don't know if this is in the right place, if not could a mod move it thanks

While doing some moderation for the database, there were two or three delete requests for duplicate sega saturn games. Turns out these were not duplicates and have now been deleted completely from the database. The games were: Arcade's Greatest Hits: Williams, Actua Golf and a japanese one i can't remember the name of now. Can we please double check before accepting the delete request. BTW i didn't accept the requests, when double checking myself i found that they were already deleted Not sure if this is in the right place, if not could an admin maybe move it to the correct place thanks.

I had to reject a few of those as well, i thought it might have been a test by the admins to see how the moderation was going LOL
