Make sure you're changing the settings under Game Menu and not Game Details. I know it's slightly confusing; the Game Details settings are used for displaying the text details, while the Game Menu settings are used for populating the items in the game details menu. I just tested everything and it seems to work properly, though there is not currently an option to turn off the Add to Playlist item from the menu.

Sounds like this might be a file permissions issue or something like that, especially if the Settings.xml file is never created. There's something strange going on there for sure. What directory do you have LaunchBox installed to?

Not sure if @jayjay is trolling or serious...
-
@Expello Are you using Windows Media Player or VLC for your video playback engine? There does unfortunately seem to be something integral to Windows or the .NET framework messed up on that machine. Sadly I haven't found any real solutions in my searches. I guess I would try reinstalling/repairing Windows 10, although I know that's a pain. These days though you should be able to do that without losing any apps or settings.

Thanks @HankChill; I will look into that issue. Gotcha about the completed stuff too. Maybe we can just add that to the game details?
-
@Jlponyo First off, a refund is on its way. Secondly, very rarely if ever do I argue with users about the issues they're running into, but in that case, you're bringing up issues that do not exist elsewhere for thousands of people, issues that I've never even heard of. So in all honesty, I'm not sure if your computer's just broken or if you're just being a troll. Thirdly, nothing good ever comes from words like those. I sincerely hope you didn't expect a positive response lol.

Beta 4 is out now guys, finally with proper star ratings support in Big Box: - New Premium Feature: Star ratings are now available in Big Box! They will show up by default in the game details views, but can be disabled under Options > Game Details. - New Premium Feature: Star ratings can now be set in Big Box from either the game details menu or via a hotkey or controller button under Options > Keyboard Mappings > Set Star Rating or Options > Controller Buttons > Set Star Rating. An option is available to hide the Star Rating from the game details menu as well. Finally, I added the point values to the achievements titles in LaunchBox and Big Box.

Since the Escape button is used to close out every other popup, I figured this made the most sense for consistency. However, maybe the Enter button could close it out as well?
-
Also agreed.
-
Glad you shared this; I didn't know it was available there. I updated the link in LaunchBox to go here instead because it's a lot easier than the other page.
-
Yup, agreed.
-
Yeah, we'll definitely be expanding on the user interface with more details to show eventually. I want to make sure we can get the API fully working first though.
-
That's actually a new request, believe it or not. I do like that idea, but of course it would depend on their being an API available for reading the achievements on each of those platforms. We'll have to look.
-
Thanks Fisty; sorry I haven't followed up on that yet. It's on my short list.
-
So apparently the API is broken for several platforms, sadly. That's quite unfortunate. Hopefully I can get in touch with the devs here soon as I would be it's an easy fix, and I could probably even fix it myself if I had the code. If anyone knows how to get me in touch with the devs, I'm all for it. I do have a thread over on the retroachievements.org forums here: http://retroachievements.org/viewtopic.php?t=5527&c=27855 Looks like I should hit up their Discord, so I'll do that shortly.
-
Good to hear.
-
Yes, and I can't do anything about that until the retroachievements.org API is fixed. As I stated earlier, for some reason their API is broken for Sega Genesis, so there's not much I can do about it.
-
Welp, beta 3 is out now. Super Mario Bros. finally scrapes.
-
@xsilverfuryx So apparently there *is* a game titled Super Mario Bros. available on the retro achievements, but it's blank, so no wonder we're having trouble: http://retroachievements.org/Game/6305 I guess they have some duplication/moderation issues over there sometimes. I'm looking to see if there's a way to filter out any games that don't have achievements and move on to the next option.
-
I think he means just being able to list which games have achievements, or sort by them, etc., which I agree would be nice. I might be able to do that.
-
Ah, I see. I guess primarily that's an issue with how retroachievements.org has named the game, as obviously that's not the proper title. Hopefully that's not a recurring issue. I can at least go ahead remove punctuation from the checking though; that should fix that particular use case.
-
Yeah, as I stated above, the emulators don't currently use the API. They use something further. The emulators are also more intrinsically aware of what's going on since the games are running directly in the emulator, not in a separate application.
-
As much as I'd love that myself, the API currently doesn't allow for being notified when an achievement is gained, so it's not really possible at this point, unfortunately. But who knows, maybe we can once we get in touch with the devs over there.
-
Beta 2 is out now guys; it fixes the error reported above and adds achievements to Big Box as well via the game details menu and/or a hotkey/controller button: We may consider integrating the achievements more directly into the game lists here at some point, but there are a number of challenges involved so that probably won't happen right away. The themes would all have to be updated, and it'd be a ton of API calls to the retroachievements.org servers during attract mode, etc. So I'm torn on that, as the last thing we want to do is bring down their servers. This is a great start though I think.
-
@neil9000 Yeah, from what I can tell the actual emulators do not use the API, which is why they work but not the API. Hopefully they can get that fixed here soon. I'm working on sparking up a conversation with the developers so hopefully that goes well. @xsilverfuryx There's not really any other good way to do it, since the title is the only way to identify the game. We could do rough matching, but then we'd inevitably end up with incorrect matches. What games are you seeing that aren't matching up?
