  1. It's not. When i try to open it, i can see it appearing in the process list for a split second and then it disappears. But i managed to fix the issue, although i have no idea how this would happen. I installed the same version somewhere else and then i tried to find which file caused the trouble by overwritting the ones in the RAMdisk. So when i replaced "Unbroken.LaunchBox.dll" (in the metadata folder) with the fresh one, it got fixed. This shouldn't happen though since, like i said, all files in the RAMdisk can't change so i don't know how this file got broken. It couldn't be corrupted either, this would mean the image file that loads the RAMdisk is corrupted and it wouldn't load in the first place... Anyway, it's fixed now so i guess i can't complain.
  2. So i double click the exe and it appears in the processes for a split second and then disappears. No error or anything. I have changed nothing. In fact, the setup is installed in a RAMdisk which means no changes can be done unless i manually save them. If i close and open the RAMdisk, it basically brings everything inside to the last state i saved. But for some reason, without changing anything, Launchbox doesn't load. I also tried it on both Windows 7 and 10 since i have a dual boot system. Nothing happens. It was working yesterday. I don't know how it's possible to not work without changing anything
  3. So, anyone managed to change the resolution in this game? Changing it in the DefaultConfig csv file doesn't seem to work. Any other ideas?
  4. Just to clear things up, i didn't suggest anything mandatory to use. If you don't want to use such options you can just not use them. What i'm suggesting is OPTIONS/filters to better narrow down results depending on what you need. This may not be useful when you only have a small collection of games but for someone who has a 10.000+ collection or more (like i have seen some people having around here) some extra filtering options (that you don't have to use if you don't want) would make things more convenient. But it's just options for those who want to use them. I'm trying to be as clear as possible, English is not my first language.
  5. I don't get it. What do problems in real life have to do with improving a program? Anyway, it could be just an advanced option. It doesn't have to be forced. Have some type or result filter options in order to be easier to find a group of games that you are interested and minimize unrelated results. For instance, an option to only look for game title and ignore other metadata results. This way Sonic games will come up without unrelated games published by Panasonic. Or look for Sonic games only released by Sega and that would narrow it down even further by removing games with titles such as "Supersonic speed Racing" or stuff like that. It can't be perfect but the more filters you add should narrow down the results even further.
  6. Could a better search option be implemented also? Like, when searching for "Sonic", look only for games with that name in there and not give results from games published by Panasonic. Or have settings to look for the exact match so when i search for, say, DOOM ports it wont give me dozens of results of games with "of Doom" in the title. The search box as is right now is pretty barebones, you write something and it looks everything that contains this word, including publishers names. It isn't very useful. A good search box can be a very useful tool when you manage full libraries of many systems. Like searching for every port of a particular title for instance. This is inconvenient now when you get many unrelated results.
  7. I always criticized Launchbox for not being as "snappy" as it should so i'm looking forward trying this soon
  8. It was fixed indeed. I made that thread myself back then and he fixed it. But now it seems like it's the intended behavior after all, i don't know, i'm also confused. And it's funny because i can copy-paste the correct named files from a backup and Launchbox will still recognize them, even after the edits. So it feels like an inconvenience with nothing to gain from if you ask me, especially if you have multiple frontends, sharing the same assets. Thankfully, it's easy to fix, after you done editing your games just pull a backup of your assets with the original names and delete the renamed ones.
  9. That is indeed a good thing, especially if you prefer merged rom sets (like Goodmerged). Because it handles them in the same way MAME handles parent roms. You just see the parent rom as the default and you can press [+] to have access to all the different versions of the rom inside (different regions, versions, prototypes and betas, translations, hacks, etc). So you have absolutely everything, but it's still very organized, clean and without any clutter. And without having millions of little files stored in your hard drive since all different versions of a game are zipped in their parent archive. That means only one archive/file per title. So you save HDD space as well. As a completionist who wants to have access to everything and likes testing different versions, regions, etc this MAME like environment is the reason i stuck with this program for so many years. I wonder if something like this is possible in LB as well, merging different regions, etc, into one parent rom and then right clicking to play which version you want. Kinda like how it merges the multiple CD games.
  10. Ok thanks for the response. I was confused because this issue was brought up before and then you got it fixed (the pictures would not be renamed for some versions of LaunchBox) but now it's the intended behavior. It does work for me though for some reason. If i pull the pictures with the old names from my backup and replace the ones that have been renamed by LB, they still work (i refresh the images to rebuild cache and make sure they work). That's why i was wondering why the renaming happens in the first place. Anyway it's all good, an inconvenience sure, but at least pulling the pictures from a backup saves me the time from correcting hundreds of renamed files.
  11. Quoting you in case you didn't see the thread. The issue is back.
  12. And here is the older topic about this where Jason fixed it:
  13. Thanks for the suggestions but i would like to keep my other frontends as options. Also i will have to buy LB to get access to Big Box anyway and i'm still waiting for some features to be added and performance issues to be ironed out before i do that. Question still stands though. Is there a reason why the assets get renamed? They don't even get the same name as the title, it's something silly like Super_Mario_64-01.png. What's the point of that? I remember this was fixed at some point after i made a similar thread about it but now the issue is back again for some reason.
  14. Behavior is still the same in the latest beta. So i assume it's intended? If it is, i don't see why, i mean, roms don't get renamed (thankfully, lol) so why do pictures need to be renamed every time you update the info/metadata of a game? Like i described above, this makes LaunchBox having to use exclusive assets just for itself.
  15. So this happened to me and i figured it out after more than 300+ box art pics got renamed by launchbox without asking me. It seems every time i rename a game in Launchbox because the database gets updated, it also renames all the assets with a -01, -02 or whatever at the end of the name and removes (USA), etc. And because i use the same assets for all frontends (like Hyperspin) since i don't want to waste HDD space by having everything copied multiple times for every frontend, now all these pics show up as missing in Hyperspin. So that basically means Launchbox can't share assets with other frontends. Can this be fixed? The way it is now you must copy-paste everything so Launbox can have exclusive usage on them.
  16. Nice. Well, i use LB as my main "eye candy" desktop frontend. So i absolutely must have at least a front box cover (or flyer in case of arcades) and one snapshot. That's my goal. Everything else (info, manual, other pictures, etc) are a bonus. So as you can imagine, having these requirements somewhat limits the number of games (or systems) i can add (about 9k roms). For my full collections i use Quickplay, which is a faster/lighter program. There i also use a list view (about 60k roms, can't store full CD/DVD iso collections yet). Lastly i use Hyperspin as my "eye candy + couch mode" frontend to use with a game pad. There i use the same collection as Launchbox since i can usually find videos and wheels for everything that has a front box cover. But i try to keep it as clean looking as possible, that means if there's a video missing i at least use a snapshot in it's place. So basically, 3 different front-ends for 3 different situations. I have to say though, the LB info database is becoming the best recourse to collect info, release dates, etc. I never thought one day i will be able to have all this info for all these roms in the same way MAME does for arcades.
  17. Can i ask, do you also have a box cover for each and every one of those 100k games? Because that would be incredibly impressive to me. And if not, what percentage you think you are missing? I gave up on the idea of full sets in LB because i had to manually hunt boxes and other assets for about half of the full Spectrum or Amstrad sets, that means finding and renaming literally thousands of files. Have you done this kind of work with your collection? I had to do this for a "best 500 games" collection and i still had to find about half of them manually, took me a couple of days but i almost gave up.
  18. I don't add full scene collections in LB. I mean, the home computers alone can have 10k+ roms each, like Commodore 64 for instance. I use QuickPlay for that because it's a much faster and snappier frontend. I use LB for the more "cleaned-up" sets. Like a complete collection of US licensed SNES games, best 500 Spectrum or C64 games, some hyperlists (these are also incomplete cleaned up lists) and things like that. So i'm currently at 8.500 games in LB with box art, snaps, etc, without MAME roms. Maybe later on if LB becomes a bit snappier, i will add MAME in there.
  19. Here's how i did it. Create 2 cfgs. One for Genesis and one for Master System. Make sure there are no spaces in the name. Lets say "Genesis.cfg" and Master_System.cfg" Put them in the root config folder of RetroArch. Copy the contents of the main RetroArch.cfg and paste them in both new cfgs. Then manually make the changes you want for each cfg individually. Every option should be available there. Then open Launchbox and edit your RetroArch emulator. For both Genesis and Master System you should have something like this in the parameters window: -L "cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll" In order to have different options for each system just make it look like this: -L "cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll" -c config\Genesis.cfg -L "cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll" -c config\Master_System.cfg Each one matching the correct system obviously. Now you should be able to load those cfgs individually every time you run these systems through Launchbox. This way i managed to use different shaders for Game Boy and Game Boy color using Gambatte as the core for both.
  20. Seems related to my issue. Here's the pic i posted in that topic. Personally speaking, i can feel these spikes as small performance drops and it affects my experience since i use it a lot and every 6 seconds i get a spike/delay/stutter/mini freeze. It happens when i browse, edit, look at stuff, etc. So it's not just a background thing, at least for me since other people seem to not care about it or not notice it and don't find it as a problem at all.
  21. Wow... talk about patronizing... Maybe you didn't read this part " the stutter issue affects the whole program". Not just moving a window. I know it needs to query first, i know it stutters WHILE it's queuing, that's why i give it some time. I didn't even download anything. And yet, after that, the program does this even if i leave it open for all day. So whatever i do (not just move a window around), i briefly lose control of the program for every 6 seconds. Now i'm in the middle of creating a new platform and all the time i have this mini-freezing every 6 seconds. This didn't affect older versions. It was smooth all the time. I guess you don't care if something doesn't work as good as before? Maybe for you it's nitpicking but having a front-end feeling smoothly enough should be important imo. I guess you don't agree. Anyway, sorry for bothering the troubleshooting/beta testing forum for a problem.
  22. Ok, sorry for the quality but i think you can see the problem pretty clearly. 1st part of the video, i move the edit window and it looks OK. It does have a minor stutter issue but it's not very bad. Second part of the video, i open the second window and now you can see the stutter/freeze issue every few seconds becoming more severe. Last part of the video, i reproduce the crash when i browse my complete collection of 8.000 titles. You can also see how it stutters while i scroll since the stutter issue affects the whole program. This behavior is the same across 3 different computers. Only difference is that the Windows 10 system doesn't give me a message when it crashes.
  23. I never recorded a video before but maybe i can do one off screen with the mobile. I also found two older versions, 6.9 and 7.8. I'll also test these.
  24. The third system i tested is a quite fresh Windows 7 setup with less than 40 processes. The second has Windows 10 and the main a more up to date Windows 7. All 3 systems have different things. The only thing that is the same is that all use Nvidia cards. Although all are different models and have different versions of drivers. Anyway, i'll try to troubleshoot this more, thanks for the suggestion.
  25. What's your deal if i have a deal? Whether or not this is "significant" or not is a matter of opinion. My main problem right now is that i don't get why this problem affects me and nobody else. If someone said "yes, i do see this problem but it's not significant enough" i would just stop posting and deal with it or use another program. Also, i never had this issue in the past, i will just try to find an older version in the wild and use that. But it just bugs me that nobody else seems to be affected and i get this in so many different setups. It's just weird.
