  1. Version 13.25 still suffers from the same problems that have been present for a long time now.
Scanning for Retroachievements is the rom is 7z is still broken. It worked back in 13.19 but not anymore.

Importing systems if name is changes from the standers, and scrape as is being uses still sometimes makes the platform end up not under console or handheld, but under root. When this happens no info about the platform is added an auto import stops working.

Starting a game to fast from BigBox, the audio from the video sometimes keeps playing even when the game starts.

Closing BigBox (close or switch to launchbox) often leaves the process running, having to open task manager and End Task to be able to use Launchbox.

In BigBox, often the game detail page is blank, having to leave the game and go back in to be able to select any option.

This is only a handful of bug and problems that have been present for some time now. And it seams that when/if a feature breaks its gone for good. :(

From 13.25, music playback, if a track is in a m3u and short it will get stuck and play a 1 sec bit, be quiet for 10 sec and then play in again. No mater if you back out from the game or even start it.

The next version or two should maybe focus on making sure features that are in launchbox keep working instead of adding more and letting features that don't work just stay broken!!

Stuff like importing Wii U games, where it will ignore disc based games to import cemu installed games. Maybe it should ask me the user. Its a great feature to import installed games, but maybe my games aren't installed. Maybe they are disc based. So maybe a simple questions when importing this types of games would make life easier for everyone?

While i do like launchbox, if stuff I like about it breaks and then doesn't really get fixed, the time will come to start locking for a replacement

Sorry if this sounds negative, it's not my intention. But it's moving toward being more of a headache then a pleasant experience

  2. Pioneer LaserActive, NEC LD-ROM², Sega Mega LD

    View File

    Hi

The Pioneer LaserActive can now be emulated using Ares.
LaserActive comes in two flavors, the NEC LD-ROM² and the Sega Mega LD. As you may have guessed the games where stored on laser discs, giving them excellent video for the time.

I was hopping that this would have been added to the database by now, but that hasn’t happened, so I'll upload this here for anyone wanting to add this games.

There are ow files, Pioneer LaserActive and Pioneer LaserActive (OBI).

Both of the contain images (Box front and back, disc) and some manuals. The OBI has the boxart with the OBI where possible, and the other one without the OBI, where possible.

Every game has a Front box art, even games not yet ripped. :-)

    I added platform clear logos.

And in the roms folder there is a _Fix.bat file. Now you should never run a bat file without knowing what it dose. So please open it in a text editor and have a look.

Adding all your .mmi file in the roms folder and running the .bat will rename them and sort them into folders. Giving you 1G1R, and moving the rest to a remove folder, so you can delete them if you like.

Anyway, I am going to start making some .bat files to sort MAME/FBNeo roms into platform folders. So if anyone is interested in that, let me know an I'll upload them here too

  3. An update in my troubleshooting too. So I also uninstalled and install again. I tried removing and re importing platforms. I updated the RAHasher.exe and 7-Zip in the third-party folder. After that I uninstalled again and reinstalled so I'm on the same versions of everything.

I run RAHasher.exe and it spits out the correct checksum, but still nothing in Lunchbox.

I moved some of my roms from my folder, removed the platform and reimported it, then I added back 2 games, unzipped. Scanning now gave me cheevos on two non 7z games only. I then added back one more rom, this time .zip and it also worked. So I added back the rest in 7z and nothing.

I'm guessing here, but it seams that launchbox isn't uncompressing as expected.

This has actual a problem with some specific platforms long before this. GameCube in rvz if 7z will not work and FBNeo/flycast arcade roms if 7z instead of zip will not work (arcade in 7z works with RAHasher).

But lilcheeks, your roms are in .zip aren't they? that's odd, because for me .zip worked just now, but not 7z

I'm actually a little at a loss. Don't really know what more to try

  4. I have launchbox on a computer in my livingroom, and then one on my main PC. The livingroom updated to 13.24 and I added the GBA games. Scanning for the Cheevos didnt work. I started launchbox on my main PC and said no to the update. Added the games and scanned for Cheevos and it workt fine. I removed the platform, updated launchbox and tryed again, but after the update it didnt work.

  5. Hi, just updated to 13.24 a couple of days ago and it seams that scan can for RetroAchievements isn't working anymore?
Not sure if the process has changed, but scanning a platform gives me nothing.

In the xml every games get, <RetroAchievementsHash>COULDNTFILEHASH</RetroAchievementsHash>

    All my roms are 7z
It checks the platform really fast, so I'm guess Launchbox isn't unpacking them before checking, but I'm not sure.

    Any ideas what to do?

    Thanks

  6. Hi all,

I'm a little late to the party here, but I have just started using BannerBox. Excellent theme.
So my setup is a little different. I have a platform and then within it sub platforms with hack or prototypes and so on. So i have started setting up to make Banners for what I need, and if anyone is interested I'll share theme here.

  7. Hi again.

So I have uninstalled Launchbox and installed it again, but it still happens. What I can du is just delete the plantorm and inort it again and it works. Its very random, and I still consider this a bug. But I now just import platforms, one at a time. Only have Clearlogos down load and iff it dosnt work, delet an do it again.  Once I have a handfull of platforms I let launchbox download the art that I want.

Its a little bit of a hassle, but then again, its not that will be importing new platforms al the time 🙂

Anyway faeran, thank you for taking the time to helping me.

  8. Thank you for the the tips. I hade to travel to a family member, so I won't be back home for a couple of days.

The launchbox on a new drive is installed from the launchbox setup. So I haven't just moved it so to say.

The file names on the files are all run through clrmame with the no-intro, redumo dats. All using 7zip, so the game always get moved to the computer when playing it.

I don't use any OneDrive dopebox. But I'll have a look at the file permissions once I'm back home.

i have been moving a big number of files from the nas to the computer, just to see that the network speed doesn't drop. And as far as I can tell, the network is working just fine.

The folder is mapped to z: and its always available when Windows starts. the hdd vill spin down. Disabled this so the HDDs never spin down, doesn't make any differences

  9. Thank you for your reply.

I have imported them using the Tools > Import > ROM files > single platform.

I have all the rooms on a NAS. All emulators, lunchbox and art/videos and on the computer itself. All located on a SATA SSD.

The NAS has a shared folder, and it in turn contains sub folders. A Roms folder. In it is a folder for consoles, handhelds and so on. Then in the console folder is a Nintendo 64 and in it a folder for Japanese games, one for English games, one for hacks and so on

What is making this so hard for me to troubleshoot is that I don't get the same result every time. If I import say N64 and it's doesn't really work. If I delete it and try again it sometimes works, but not always.

The computer as I Intel i7 8800k, running at 5GHZ, with 16gb ram and windows 11.

I was using launchbox on it before, but never really had this problem. I've had it up and running from before the start/pause themes where a things.

It's just been formatted and a fresh install of windows. The only things that have changed is that I moved launchbox from my C drive (m.2) to my D drive (SATA SSD) and that i am using a new nas.

Any tips, ideas or help is much appreciated

    Thank you for your time

  10. Importing Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn, using the standard names. The same setting all the way. Nintendo 64 is all good, but Saturn has imported all the games, but the game folder isn't the one I selected during the import process. Its the default Launchbox folder instead. So adding a game or two later will not be imported automatically, without changing this.

At seams random what launchbox actually saves from the import process.

Anyone had any of this problems? Anyone know what I should try next?

  11. Hi,

Lunchbox is acting a little odd, and I can't really figure out what's wrong.

Just for a little background info.

I have been using lunchbox for years. I have just gotten a new NAS and I'm in the process of sorting roms and adding platforms.
This NAS is massive compared to what I was using, so I really want to get my games in a nice good organised structure.

So before starting I did some testing and everything was working fine. I sort my platforms like so

    .
    └── Console/
        ├── Nintendo GameCube/
        │   ├── Nintendo GameCube
        │   ├── Nintendo GameCube (Demos)
        │   └── Nintendo GameCube (Japan)
        ├── Sega Dreamcast/
        │   ├── Sega Dreamcast
        │   ├── Sega Dreamcast (Japan)
        │   └── Sega Dreamcast (Translations)
        └── Sony PlayStation/
            ├── Sony PlayStation
            ├── Sony PlayStation (Hacks)
            └── Sony PlayStation (Japan)

So when I import the roms, I start with the "main" platform, for example "Nintendo GameCube" then, once its done I'll do the "secondary" platforms, "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)"

So I'll name it "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" and scrape it as "Nintendo GameCube"

So I did this for about 15 platforms. Once its scanning I left it and came back and just added the next one.

    So far so go

So I looked in the platform "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" I saw that about 1/3 of the games had no metadata. First I thought that maybe the games aren't in the database, but after looking a bit more, I could see games that I knew where in the database.

So I selected "Edit metadata" on a game and it was found at once. But the platform gets changed from "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" to "Nintendo GameCube", so I had to manually change this on ever game I updated.

This was a couple of days ago. So yesterday I added "Sony PlayStation". Everything went fine, and after that I added "Sony PlayStation (Japan)", and for some reason it just doesn't work as expected.

There's over 2500 files in the folder and only a handful of games got metadata. I pressed Ctrl+A and tried updating the metadata, but nothing gets updated.

So I delete the platform from lunchbox and import it again. Same name "Sony PlayStation (Japan)" and again scraped as "Sony PlayStation", this time lunchbox starts downloading all the metadata for the games.

So for some reason its working?

I see that "GameCube (Japan)" doesn't have an icon. Under edit platform the "Scrape As" is blank. Changing it back to GameCube and the icon is there.

Looking in "Parents" and its parent is "Root"

All info like CPU is blank.

Looking at "Sony PlayStation (Japan)" and the scrape as is this time "Sony PlayStation" but the parent is "Root" and again no info.

Then checking "Sega Dreamcast (Japan)" and the "Scrape As" is "Sega Dreamcast" and the parent is "Consoles". Here all the info is filled in.

So what I want to know is how to get Lunchbox to import platforms the same ever time.
How to get Lunchbox to use the "Scrape as" and not just remove it after/during import process

  12. Hi,

I am about to start the adventure of a new build. I just got my new HDDs and I will be adding my games to them and starting over in Launchbox. There's a lot of old emus and app not used anymore, and the build has gotten a little cluttered and unorganized, so this time around I want to get everything organized in a good way from the beginning

So I plan on organizing my roms something like this

    Roms
    |-- Consoles
    |   |-- Nintendo GameCube
    |   |   |-- Nintendo GameCube
    |   |   |-- Nintendo GameCube (Japan)
    |   |   |-- Nintendo GameCube (Hacks)
    |   |   `-- Nintendo GameCube (Translations)

I really want to separate my collection, having all non English games, hacks, fan translations separated, in folders. Stuff like hacks I'll be adding games from time to time. But the official releases are more or less add once and that's it.

So on my test build, I have been trying a couple of things.

A added the platform "Nintendo GameCube", Then I added a Platform "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" Scraped as GameCube, and the parent being "Console Non-English", but this makes BigBox very cluttered, and that's not wat I wanted.

So I thought that I'll add the "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" as a child for the "Nintendo GameCube" platform.

But a platforms can't be child for another platform.

So it looks like playlists are my only option?

In the platform "Nintendo GameCube (Japan)" I unticked the parent, and I made a playlist containing everything from this platform. Then I added this playlist as a child of "Nintendo GameCube". This way I thought that Id have all my Gamecube games in one place, with the Japanese games only showing up under there playlist.

But when I go into BigBox, all I now see when I enter GameCube is my playlist, the games from this platform aren't shown.

So I'm a little stuck to what to do now.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

  13. Hi,

I know we are talking about adding new systems to the database. But I'd like to see more content rating systems.
Personally I live in Europe and I'd prefer to use PEGI instead of ESRB. Its just what I'm use too.
But I also have a lot of Japan only games, and this have never been rated in the US, so they are all unrated. But if we added CERO to the database I'd start filling in the ratings for the games.

I listed all the Video game content rating systems:
    Australian Classification Board (Australia)
    CERO (Japan)
    Chilean Rating System (Chile)
    ClassInd (Brazil)
    ESRA (Iran)
    ESRB (US, Canada)
    FPB (South Africa)
Game Rating and Administration Committee (South Korea)
    Game Software Rating Regulations (Taiwan)
    Gmedia (Saudi Arabia)
    Indonesian Game Rating System (Indonesia)
    iOS App Store (online)
    National Audiovisual Institute (Finland
    OFLC (New Zealand)
    RARS (Russia)
    SMECCV (Mexico)
    PEGI (Europe, Israel)
    USK (Germany)

It be really nice if we had the option to pick rating system priorities, like we can do with art.

For example I'd pick PEGI, then ESRB and then CERO
So if I add "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to my games collection, I'd get it rated PEGI 12
But if I add "Arc the Lad: End of Darkness" I'd get ESRB T - Teen, because this game was never released in Europe.

In addition to some of the rating systems have content descriptor. PEGI for example has "Fear" or "Violence" for example.

I know this has to be added to launchbox, but it all starts with adding it to the database, so we can start filling in the ratings for the games.

So, yes I know this post is a little off. This thread is about adding new systems. But as you are adding to the database, I'll post this here in the hopes that you might consider adding more rating systems, so we that don't live in the US can use the ratings we are more familiar with. And so we can get ratings on games that aren't released in the US

    Thank you for you time

  14. Hi,

Is there a way to cancel a submission to the database?

I was updating some games, and clicked on the wrong tab, added info for the wrong game and clicked submit before noticing what I had done.

  15. As proghodet said, https://howlongtobeat.com/ would be great. Maybe a howlongtobeat game-id field so the info can be scraped straight from them. It's nice to know before starting a new game if it's going to take 5h or 50h to complete.

My kodi skin surprised me when Halloween came around and it suggested spooky films and tv episodes. And then at Christmas it suggested family/christmas films. I really like the idea and think a field with this kind of information (mode/style) would be great so a bigbox theme can suggest games based off of this.

But most of all, I would like to see more rating systems added to the database. ESRB is great but I'd like to see PEGI added as I’m from Europe and this is what's used on games that I buy. And as I have a big Japanese only game collection, CERO is the only rating system used for those games. So having multiple ratings for all games and then in launchbox/bigbox having a priorities order just like for media, so for example I would have PEGI then ESRB and last CERO.
    (more/all rating systems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_content_rating_system#Comparison_table)

  16. Starting The Game

    View File

This is my first startup theme that I’ve work on. I use Viking's COLORFUL Theme Dark for my Launchbox setup and I wanted a startup theme that uses the same colours, so I made this.

    Features:
Big system logo on the left side
Developers logo in the bottom right corner
Load-bar and background uses the same colour as “COLORFUL platform video set”

    Install:
Unzip the “StartingTheGame-Dark.zip” to your “..\Lunchbox\StartupThemes\“ folder. In Launchbox/BigBog select StartingTheGame-Dark as your startup theme and your good to go.

    Updating:
If you are using 1.0 or 1.01 please close launchbox/bigbox. Delete the startup theme and install the new one. On future release it should be fine to just extract and replace
