For me this was not the case. When I started (or noticed) to have the issue was after the latest upgrade and doing a scan of removed and added ROMs. The hard drive did not have a chance to spin down because I started a new scan a few seconds after the first task completed which forced me to use the menu indicated. Yesterday while making the above observations, the hard drive was active as well. I have a desktop and an arcade cabinet with pretty similar hardware. The same 32" monitors on both running at the same resolution and both have the exact same issue. Only major difference between the two is the desktop has a GTX3070 and the arcade cabinet a 2060. My desktop is running the entire setup from a WD elements. My arcade cabinet has the LB installation and emulators on a 2TB SSD while all the games are on a 8TB WD elements. When running LB on my arcade cabinet I have the same issue though most of the time its using BigBox and that seems to work fine. I don't know if the issue started prior to this exact version we are on now since I was 2 or 3 minor versions behind since I had been ignoring the upgrade prompt I think since 12.3. I also had been been primarily using BigBox prior to that for a good 6 months but I would have complained then if this was happening to me at the time but I don't recall any issues for the past few years with the same hardware.

For me, this is the menu I have noticed the problem with. I did try changing my display to 1920x1080 and the problem gets much much worse. At this moment in time, 2560x1440 is taking about 1 second to open. If I change it to 1920x1080 its about 10 full seconds. Changing it back increases the speed back to 1 second. Its strange that it seems to be running fine until its not and the only way to correct it seems to be to close out and start over. I just tested this menu element while I was in 1080 and I have the same problem there too. View and Tools both are the slowest to open of the bunch at maybe 7 seconds? Changing it back to 1440 is working at the moment but not sure for how long. Right clicking a category seems fine either way.

I am experiencing the same issue. It seems to get worse the longer I use the application. It is currently taking 5 to 7 seconds to open the menu. If I keep clicking it will sometimes open faster and the menu will layer on top of one another briefly. I have a similar setup to you. Resolution is the same, however I'm at 165hz. I did try running at 60hz and that didn't solve the issue so I changed it back. I don't have a fix, but wanted to let you know you aren't alone with the problem.

Something has always bothered me and I'm not quite sure if the problem is coming from Big Box, one of the other listed apps, or maybe just is unsupported but hopefully someone knows. As you scroll through Big Box, the Pixelcade updates to show a matching marquee. No problem here. The problem is when BB goes into attract mode. The Pixelcade sticks on whatever last marquee was used. Is it possible to get the Pixelcade to update as Big Box chooses the next game to display in attract mode? I have a feeling its Big Box since the Pixelcade will resume displaying the correct marquee the second you move the joystick and it picks the next game in the list. Anything I can do here?

Turn off retro achievements notification pop up?

This seems like you are running MAME in RetroArch. You can disable it here: https://www.retroarch.com/?page=achievements Settings > Achievements within RetroArch -
I have noticed this behavior for some time but thought I should mention it in case this is a known issue and there is a fix. Whenever I upgrade some of my sets, there are usually a few new additions and name changes. I tend to scan for removed roms followed up by scanning for added roms. When doing this with my Nintendo 64 set, it claims there are 4 new items. When I click finish, I get this message. If I scan again, it shows the same 4 files. Thoughts?

Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!

Will it have to download any of the existing media from launchbox and/or emumovies?

I have v229 imported and been using fine since it came out. I would like to upgrade to v233 and don't see a recommended way to do this. Should I delete the entire Arcade platform and import MAME again fresh (which I had been doing, but normally don't upgrade very often). Or, can I import on top of the existing one and maybe look for removed games? I just want to make sure I'm doing this the smartest way. I can only find tutorials on importing a new set, not dealing with existing sets.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'll give this a go tomorrow.

I started with eXoDOS and its great. Instructions were clear on how to merge with my existing LaunchBox installation. Next up is eXoWin3x. The instructions were lacking on merging with an existing LaunchBox installation. Folder structure looked pretty clean so I moved what I thought I should and as far as I can tell, it works great. I wanted to give eXoScummVM a try too. Like eXoWin3x, I can't find any instructions on a proper way to merge it with an existing installation with the other previously mentioned versions installed at the same time. SCUMM appears to be used in the eXoDOS installation and I'm worried that If I don't merge folders properly I might screw up some customizations between the two. Does anyone have a link to proper documentation or can help so I don't hose anything? Anyone out there done this before?

Depends on the controller but I'd check here: https://support.8bitdo.com/ Usually you hold X while turning the controller on, but some of them have a physical switch. I believe all mine came in that mode already and didn't have to change a thing.

I have the N30, M30, and SN30 Pro+. All 3 work fine. I was running into some issues with those playing nicely with my Xbox One controller and decided to setup separate installs of Retroarch for each controller type so I could more easily manage customizations. I'm sure there are more correct ways to manage that, however it worked best in my situation.

I was a bit skeptical, however the thing just works. I purchased the additional art pack Pixelcade provides and highly recommend it. Other than checking a couple of boxes and browsing for some files, there isn't much else to do.

I may have this solved. I reached out to Pixelcade and was informed this value is getting set by LEDBlinky. They said they have heard of this before and thought it might be related to the MAME XML. Within the above app I went to the MAME tab and browsed for the XML and saved the configuration file and rebooted. Tested 5 games and all 5 displayed the correct message. To answer your questions, I'm still using 226 and am only using MAME on my arcade cabinet at this time.

I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction or have an answer to an issue with my new Pixelcade LED marquee. For the most part, everything works perfectly. The marquee changes as I scroll through BigBox. Most of the time however, whenever I choose to play a game, a message appears as the game is loading "Now Playing Q Bert". The thing is, I am never playing Qbert. Is this message coming from BigBox? Pixelcade? LEDBlinky? After the message appears, the marquee displays normally. Maybe there is a way to disable this message if it can't be corrected?

If your goal is to stay up to date, split set is the easiest to maintain. You might save a small amount of space with a merged set, however it gets a bit more complicated updating. I have been using MAME since the late 90s and its rare that you will find update sets that aren't split. If your goal is to stay up to date, split set is the easiest to maintain. A fresh import fixed my issue. Thanks for your input neil9000.

I decided to start over once more and deleted LB directory and reinstalled. I am using the MAME Arcade Full Set option again and the directory is looking better already. 10 Yard Fight has a name that matches my working directory so I'm at least hopeful. 720 doesn't have the degree symbol either. This most likely won't finish for quite a few hours, but I'll report back when its done. No clue why it seems to be working this time. Those were some very specific naming issues.
-
I have clicked on and refreshed just about everything I can think of that is related to images. That symbol had to have come from one of the imports (LaunchBox Game DB or EmuMovies). I have touched nothing in any of the directories or renamed anything manually. In my original install, the file name looks exactly as yours does. I had upgraded my original install to the latest version, but the gap between when I last managed my games was pretty large so I wanted to start fresh. If I had to guess, 30% of the images appear to be missing. 10 yard fight is another one where the flyer seems to be there, but not appearing. The images from my working install have slightly different names.

I am using the official MAME exe and used 100% stock settings from LaunchBox. My right click menu looks like this. If I open the image folder and filter for 720, this is the result I get.

I have reinstalled LaunchBox a few times over the years and never had this issue before. I started with the latest version of MAME 221 with all ROMs fully scanned and showing perfect. I have a EmuMovies membership. Installed 10.15 of LaunchBox. I have my original install of LaunchBox in another directory and things look fine there. In my original install, if I right click on 720 for example, I am given a bunch of variations I can launch. The new install doesn't show the other variations so maybe that is the problem? If I download images and media from the edit game window, it acts like it downloads dozens of files but nothing ever shows up. Any idea what i'm missing here? The image directory is about 1GB larger on the new install than on the original with more files so it would seem the data should be there. I have flipped through the various image groups and have the same problem in all of them.

I believe I solved my own problem. I tried deleting the playlists XML from the directory and closed the application. I noticed that all the XML came back when I closed LaunchBox. This gave me the idea to delete the playlists from within the application, close the application, open again, THEN create the playlists. Bingo. Things seem back to normal. I have no idea if this will help anyone else, but since it worked for me, maybe someone else will stumble across this in the future and it might solve their problem.

I had an issue where I needed to delete my TurboGrafx CD import and start over. I deleted the category beforehand and imported like I did the first time. I noticed that my original playlists appeared with root as the parent. I deleted the playlists by hand and created again. Once again these appeared at the bottom of the list tied to root. I tried to edit the playlist and removed root and associate it back to the NEC category and it create a duplicate of regions as you can see in the screen capture. I'm not sure what to do here. No matter what I do I can't clean this up. Has anyone seen this issue?

http://redump.org/downloads/ might be what you are after. 9,771 as of now from all regions and counting multiple discs for games that have them.
