I've always wondered how I can get Joy-to-Key to run with a game, and only with the profile I had set for that game too. Not sure where in the Forum of Threads I need to seek a discussion on that answer I seek though. @neil9000once told me of Controller Companion, but the setup with that I'm trying to figure out because I tried it with Blood on DOS and it wasn't working right for me. All I know is I wanna get these PC based games going with a console gaming feel.

you can set joy2key to switch to a profile for a specific .exe.  i am still learning some things with it but i have a profile set up for bigbox, and one for kodi when i launch via bigbox.  when joy2key detects the kodi.exe launch, it automatically switches to the profile i have set up and when kodi closes, it switches back to the bigbox profile. To start, be sure your profile is created in joy2key.  Go to settings-Associate profiles with applications.   Select "Add", You can name the app name, chose the path of the .exe, and what profile it needs to load with that .exe.  Once added, you can select what you want joy2key to do when that particular .exe is not active.  Do nothing, it will keep that profile active, switch to last manually chosen profile, or specify a default profile to go back to.

Sadly I can't replicate this (the arrow keys work properly after using letter shortcuts for me), so it's gonna be one of those finicky issues to fix. I suspect that it's somehow system-specific. If anyone else wants to try and replicate this to see if we can narrow it down any, I'm all ears.

@Jason Carr not sure if this helps, i was in the list view in launchbox when it happens.  i just started using the list view and didnt even think to include that info on the earlier post.  tested the image view and works as intended on both of my builds.  both dells, one desktop and one laptop

  3. When i use the letter shortcut to jump to games in LaunchBox,  the next movement of any keyboard arrow keys causes it to jump back to the last game that was selected or the general area.  Example, Atari 2600, Asteroids is currently selected, press "K", selection jumps to Kaboom.  move the arrow down to scroll through the k's, it jumps up to the game Atlantis which is one game below Asteroids in my collection.  If i click the mouse first before using the arrow key it allows me to scroll without the jump.  It also jumps whenever the space-bar or enter is pressed.  Pressing another letter key does jump to the appropriate letter instead of jumping back to the last selected.

On a side note, would it be possible to implement the shortcut letter keys into the platform names,

The startup delay is the amount of time between when the emulator's EXE is launched and the game is displayed, not the amount of time that the startup screen will be visible.

If i understand correctly, if the emulator loads faster than the start up delay, its going to launch into the game regardless of the delay?  I have tried different settings and the game is loading faster than the 30 seconds (was testing the delay).  trying to understand the point of the delay if the startup screen is supposed to stay up until the emulator loads anyway.  Also, maybe i missed this in the discussions, is the start up screen supposed to be running after the game has launched?  i see a second lb in the task bar and when i exit a game from retroarch, the start up screen flashes up before lb reloads.

  5. it is possible to create a generic image for a system if. maybe not the best way or efficient but it works.

i created an image named "Default.jpg" and put in the System Name/Images/Fan-Art Backgrounds.  My background image priority is set to Fan-art background.

I copied the default start up xaml and renamed it to my system (Atari 2600)

I changed line 16 where the xaml looks for the game specific background image and replaced it with the full path to the "Default" image i wanted to use.

    changed to:

This works, but the unless there is a way to increase the startup screen delay before the eumulator shows, there really isnt enough time to see the actual image (controller layout for example).  For the longer loading emulators, not an issue but for something like Atari, the screen is only up for a second.

my image was a little transparent, but i think there is something in the xaml to fix that, but havent messed with it enough to figure out.

    Edit:

since you are pointing to a specific image path for the system, i don't see why you couldnt create a folder for Loading Screen images and place your specific static images there.  might clean up the image placement. You would still need to create the appropriate system xaml.

Ok...so I made a boo-boo apparently...in my rush to make sure the new plugin was working perfectly,I forgot that I removed those art files from the release version...and I meant to put them back in before I updated, but,it slipped my mind. That is why copying the addons files over worked. I apologize, and I will upload a version with the borders and backgrounds intact.

Lol. Good to know. Wouldn't surprise me if it was on my end.

  7. updated to 1.62 on refried and arcade. Default them set to Refried, Platform category view/arcade platform.  Should the arcade playlists have the custom video border?  the only view that has it is the text gamelist and it uses the default Arcade border.  example: viewing as Arcade/Fighting. views 1-2 are plain black square.  view 3 is full screen like normal.  view 4 is text list with Arcade video border.

    additional info:

i did try to copy over the video borders from the arcade add on Video Border folder.  they do show

That’s awesome guys. Great to see the developer and content creator working together.

And this is one of the reasons i recently converted to a lifetime license and cant recommend launchbox and big box enough to people. Thank you @Jason Carr for being so active and engaged with your users.  and thank you to @RetroHumanoid for the awesome content you produce and at such a fast pace.  you are the the Jimmy Johns of media.  Media so fast (and good) you'll freak.

  9. Kind of off the subject but maybe not, @Jason Carr Is there a way to enable an additional place to theme change in the platform category view? Right now you can enable only a default global theme from the main category all the way to the spot where you enter the nested playlist and view the actual games in the list. Once in the list we can choose an add-on theme or even a different theme, but would have to do it for every platform and playlist.

Oh, well that's unfortunate. I guess I could just stick with either the text with details view or just turn off game details until I get to a game that I want to use the launch with options etc. that the game details view provides.  Thx for letting me know though.

Your could turn off the game details and set a keyboard or controller key in the BB options to go to the game details screen. I recently went this route, no longer have to click play twice to start a game and I still have access to the game details and launch with if I need them.

I am using the individual addon themes it seems as though where I use nested playlists - i will need to change the theme for every single one. Is that correct? so NES for example, i use the addon theme and the view with the static image - but for nes favorites and each genre i need to set that exact theme and view - it won't look at what the view for "all games" is. Is there a way to default the playlist view to the view of the "all games"?

If you are using the platform category view and wanting to use the individual add ons, yeah, you literally have to go into each playlist and change the theme.  Unless someone knows of a different way.  I noticed when you try to change the theme anywhere but inside the playlist, it wants to change the global theme.  i dont think its an issue with RH's theme, i think it is how BB is displaying the nested playlists and how the theme is applied, but what do i know.

Ok..either you are doing something really right...or i'm doing something really wrong...

You are saying, that in the default theme, with no addon enabled, you can see (for example) the Konami Classics arcade machine border, while browsing the Konami Classics games wheel?...and all you had to do was drop the borders back into the default themes videoborder folder?

yes. using the platform category view, with 1.61, no specific border (Konami Classics).  once i copied the borders from the arcade addon into the default theme. everything worked as it should.

  13. I knew i should have went to bed. lol  in testing with platform category view, the arcade systems/playlists do not have the specific video borders anymore.  I noticed the border images were moved out of the default theme/video border folder and put in the arcade add on's video border folder.  if i copy the borders over to the default they work fine. also, i have a couple of arcade playlists in my main platform wheel and when using the platform view, they lacked the proper border.  again, copying the borders over fixed the issue.  not sure of the other issues but it was working pretty good after the couple of tweaks earlier today. ?

The box/cart/disc art sizes are somewhat intentional...I have planned to go through each theme and resize/finalize/fix positioning for that stuff...but,just haven't had the time

Thanks. was curious on that one.  I like the bigger box with smaller cart.  Some of them the cart/disc is too big and covers the box art.  Havent had the time?? I can't imagine why? all the work on the new logos and a new addition to the fam?  i tip my hat and kudos to you for all the eye candy you have brought to the scene. THANK YOU!! ?

  15. That fixed it!!

One other thing i noticed in going through the different views and add-on themes is the box art seems to vary in size from view to view and even the add-on sometimes has a different size.  Was this intentional? I havent dug into the xaml code to see if i can maybe spot the line that references and see the size differences.  I was happy i found the setting to enable 4x3.  Go me.

  16. sorry, let me try again.  I have been messing with everything over the last hour, not sure what i did but the arcade border seems to have gone away from the consoles/handhelds but the playlists still show the default border and not the platform specific.

Default theme, view platform categories options, when i go into any platform other than arcade (handhelds, console, computers) that have the newly generated playlists, the video border is the default white and not platform specific border.  Systems that do not have any playlists show the correct platform specific border when using the category view.  The arcade platform category/playlist works as intended using the default theme, the video border changes depending on the playlist type.

  17. LB 9.1 and new Refried 1.6.  When i use the platform category view, i am still getting the Arcade video border in "All Games" and no platform logo above the video in the other playlists for categories other than arcade.  The arcade platform category works perfectly, showing the playlist in the arcade marquee and changing the video border.  This was an issue before, was this fixed in the 1.6 update or is it just my setup?

  18. no worries.  just wanted to put it out there in case it was an issue or if it was just me.  Custom playlists only do the default silver border but i am thinking that is more a capability of BB.  I am not sure if there is a way to have the video border change based on the platform the game is from, so it probably just uses a default border.

  19. on the new 9.0 with auto-generated playlists, i am getting the arcade video border for the "all games" playlists in the console, computer and handhelds category with the default Refried theme.  Also, in the category view, the other playlists show the default silver border and not the platform specific border. Not sure if this is a bug with the theme or due to the new version of LB/BB, or just my setup.  The unified redux theme works fine.
