So for those who have Windows 10 and have a low bandwidth or a cap, you need to turn this setting off ASAP. It turns your PC in to a P2P client and you seed Updates for other users. Some may want to keep this one to help people, but also I know some of you have caps. http://i.imgur.com/phCtDOk.png?1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General Tips and tricks. Some of these will make it in to the program. http://winaero.com/blog/category/windows-10/ This is the main program; the left pane is where you click to find the categories and you change the options on the right. There is an option to change the white top bar to what your customization color is. http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.1836 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These two I haven't used, but they seem useful for some of you. This PC Tweaker http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.213 Personalization Panel for Windows 10 http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.1839 Personally, I don't find the need to change too much. The P2P thing for Windows Updates and the title bar were the only "egregious" things to me. I like a lot of the new UI, and the Start Menu is still functionally the same with a new coat of paint. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I came across this, it said it was updated 5 hours ago from me making this post. So it seems to get updated. Lots of cool tips and tricks in this article as well as how to disable some applications like Cortana. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2975289/windows/how-to-cure-windows-10s-worst-headaches.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to remove One Drive integration if you so desire. http://betanews.com/2015/08/24/how-to-completely-remove-onedrive-from-windows-10/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to "remove" Cortana instead of Disable. Disabled she is still running. I don't care about the data she collects, I could care less. However, 3-4 processes taking 30-50mb of ram each at any given time is annoying to me. More annoying than the data. Not that I have a slouch PC, on the contrary, but it can effect others more than me and it can effect gaming like Skyrim for me which has 130+ mods, uses 3GB of my 6GB of ram and 80% of my 4GB VRAM. xD 1. download and run 'takeownership' 2. open folder 'Windows/SystemApps' 3. locate the 'Microsoft.Windows.Cortana###...; folder 4. right click this folder and select 'takeownership' to give you full access to it 4. Rename the folder or delete it This will take care of Cortana until the next MS update that might address Cortana.

It will be nice to legally use P2P for once. Joking aside though it is a little sneaky that this hasn't been mentioned before and yeah it could be bad for users with caps (I don't even know if FIOS has one) It kind of reminds me of how Comcast turned there new routers into WiFi hotspots on the semi-down low and people were up in arms over it. When I had Comcast I had mine enabled until I realized that I got no signal from it outside of my house and then it didn't serve any purpose to myself or any other Xfinity users so I disabled it.

P2P is completely and 100% legal. I don't care what anyone tries to scare in to you. It's not the act of P2P its what you choose to download. I download tons of free and legal torrents published by the people who own the rights. It's just like emulators and roms. Emulators are not illegal as long as they properly white hat backwards engineer. ROM's and BIOS are also not illegal, AS LONG AS YOU RIP THEM YOURSELF. Otherwise they are illegal. Like I am doing an LP of a game on an Emulator and I freely talk about that its an emulator and there are some glitches because of it, so I couldn't hide it anyways, but I own the PS2 game. Owning it also doesn't necessarily mean that you can just download it and be free, but that's another argument. Sorry... rant. xD Anyways, if I find more Windows 10 stuff, I'll share it here with you guys. If anyone else finds interesting stuff, share it with us.

Whew that was a rant you feel better now. I'm aware it is legal and trust me I definitely am not scared. Disks.JPG Looks like its time for another 4TB drive although I am not sure how I will connect it I have no SATA ports left all 3 of my 4 bay enclosures are full my two disk dock is full and I am unwilling to go with a single external anymore (the 4 bay enclosures have spoiled me with one plug and one usb port for 4 drives) may be time for a PCIe SATA card.

I'm a digital hoarder of sorts I have huge collections of eBooks, Comics, Movies, Music, TV Shows, Audio Books, Software Installers Emulators/ROMs, Images and Adult Entertainment (porn is so crass). All the data is pooled and mirrored using an awesome program called StableBit DrivePool (it isn't free but it is a life saver when dealing with multiple disks). I would say that the data was cheap but all those disks and drive enclosures can start getting expensive after awhile.

I am kinda the same but in a very lower way haha, currently I am struggling with a 500GB HD and a 160GB HD, and hell... I really need to buy at least 4TB because I want to save a lot of digital stuff before the internet and copyright laws in my country goes berserk. Thanks for the reply man, its very useful to know about StableBit DrivePool, hopefully I will use it when I get to afford my digital collection as you

SentaiBrad said And people think I have an insane amount of drives. I haven't started moving towards 4-6 bay enclosures. I am really poor. :P http://i.imgur.com/fhQCJF1.png I'm actually working on backing everything up, gonna install Windows 10 tonight.
Hey Brad, just to let you know in case you didn't saw, there is a hotmail address in your imgur image so I don't know if you prefer to take that out just incase!

I found something very interesting when searching around the Local Group Policy Editor about 16bit applications. In your start menu search for "Local Group Policy Editor". On the left under PC Config expand Admin Templates -> Windows Components -> Application Compatibility. On the right "Prevent Access to 16-bit applications". Double Click it then select enabled on the left. Then hit Apply. I will be curious to know if this works at all.

Windows 10 didn't last 24 hours on my machine. I had immense problems trying to use 3rd party apps. I couldn't pin non-installed, stand-alone apps to the start menu, and the only way I could get file associations to stick was to go in and edit them one at a time - using the "open with" dialog just didn't work. I like where Microsoft is going, but these little annoyances are just too much for me. I use 3rd party apps for everything - music, video, file management, even text files. Maybe I'll try again a year from now and see if these little issues are ironed out. Though honestly I think it's all a ploy to get people to buy apps at their store!

Of course they want you to buy apps at their store but that is definitely not necessary at all. I've been using Windows 10 since the first day they released the preview and at first I was disappointed at how similar to Windows 8.1 that it was (not because I didn't like 8.1 I actually loved the Windows 8 experience I know others don't but I did) as I gradually kept using the OS it finally got to a point were it was like Franks Red Hot I put that $#!+ on everything. I don't have any issues pinning anything to start. If you want to pick a default app you right click then pick choose another app even if the one you wanted was already shown then there is a check box to use what ever app that you choose all the time.

Yea, I haven't had any issues at all. Actually, the upgrade went extremely well for my girlfriend and I. It even carried over Start8 for her which we had to uninstall because of graphical glitches. Start10 is out, but we're not gonna get it. We like the Start Menu. It's enough like Windows 7 start menu, but the new fancy things that it makes us happy. I love Windows 8 not because of the Modern UI, but because of the OS improvements. Do note, Windows 10 is very much like Windows 8 on the backend. There are some differences, but when it comes to program compatability most Windows 8 stuff should work. Some wont work exactly right like Start8 because the Start Menu is inherently different. So if you have some 3rd party applications that are messing with the start menu, or anything for that matter, they can have bugs. Either see if they have an update for them, try a new variant or try more vanilla OS. What all do you change with what.

Great list I wasn't aware of the Windows key and number launched task bar items that is pretty nice. While we are on the topic of disks I have recently found that almost all of the WD Green drives I have are suffering from excessive head parking in the S.M.A.R.T. warnings. I discovered a little program called KeepAliveHD which writes a small txt file to your drive every 7 seconds (this is configurable in the settings) which keeps your drives active and doesn't let the heads spin down all the time. I only wish I would have found it before all of the excessive head parking issues. Hope maybe someone can use this to prevent the issue from occurring on their drives.

Good stuff at PCWorld, Brad. I subscribe to a few of their Newsletters. There are lots of decent Links relating to Windows 10 in this article (Windows 10 Superguide)!
