(If you have never watched FX's series the league you will have no idea what this post means so don't be confused I'm just being silly)
Drybonz
Yeah, down for me too.
Drybonz
Not sure if anyone has any communication with the games.db people, but is there any news on this? Been down for three days now. Seems like it might be more than a glitch.
DOS76
Their FaceBook page says they are having a hosting issue and they are waiting for it to be fixed on the hosts side. Here is a link
Drybonz
Oh ok... I see that now... thanks for the link.
SentaiBrad
That's more communication we've heard out of them in a very long time. They don't respond to us at all really. It's a main reason we're switching.
DOS76
Seemed like they were posting somewhat regularly on their FB page. I don't have a FB account myself so I could only see their main page and didn't look to in depth.

DOS76
MobyGames is rumored to be the new default along with GiantBomb support also.
Drybonz
Cool... I checked those sites out, they look good. Looking forward to it.
Drybonz
They posted some more in-depth information on their facebook today. It sounds like they are not going to be back any time soon, if at all. I guess it has a fairly strong impact on LaunchBox users as well. SentaiBrad
I've already posted about this here: https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/troubleshooting/some-new-information-on-the-current-unfortunate-gamesdb-situation
DOS76
Yeah there are a few new post going on about this. I'm sure there will be something coming soon as LaunchBox without a DB isn't the same and I am sure that this is now Jason's #1 priority or at least will be after Friday. SentaiBrad
It's #1 ASAP.
DOS76
I figured that but knowing his circumstances he may have to prioritize the work he needs to finish by Friday and if that is the case it is very understandable.

Jason Carr
New beta version is out. I got sick and tired of TGDB going down so I ragequit. We're no longer reliant on TheGamesDB.net. LaunchBox is now connected to a read-only database hosted by us (based on the data from TheGamesDB.net). The data is basically an outdated copy of the data from TGDB, including images. Whenever TGDB does come back up (based on my talks with Flexage I am confident that it will but not sure how long it will be), we can update the data in our own database from the data in TGDB database. Soon enough though we will be branching out completely and allowing users to contribute to our database. I think you'll find that imports are faster and cleaner now. Please test everything you can as soon as you're able; I'm hoping to put this out as an official release as soon as possible, since LaunchBox 5.7 is so crippled without TGDB being available. This has no effect on our plans to add additional scrapers such as MobyGames. That is still planned.
SentaiBrad
Yes, thank you to those who stuck it out with us. We'll have a better future this way and I hope that we can create a better database as a community.
CliveBarker
For those who don't have Facebook: theGamesDB.net wrote: Hi guys, we are sorry that there has not been much information about the downtime that we are currently experiencing, so I wanted to write a post to update you all on the current situation. We started off nearly a decade ago as a small site used mostly by a few groups of retro gamers and HTPC enthusiasts. Since then our user base has grown, along with the ever growing community of API users and developers that have integrated our service into their apps and site. Serving so many users obviously requires quite a lot of computing resources, and over the years we have taken steps to keep the resource usage low, whist still trying to maintain great performance. This has included putting our service behind the Cloudflare Content deliver Network, along with optimising the database server for the many, many thousands of requests we get every day. This has proven to be a losing battle. We have regularly had to put more and more financial resources into upgrading our hosting. We currently pay a large, well known hosting company named 1and1 for the highest specification Virtual Private Server that they offer. This seems to not be enough. A few days ago, 1and1 shut off our service without any warning. After two days of contacting them several times a day, they were finally able to tell us that our service had been shut off for excessive resource usage. It seems that we will no longer be able to host our service with this company. Our most likely option to get the site back up would be to purchase some dedicated server hardware, and place it in a data centre. This obviously requires a large amount of time and effort, and also financial resources. We have always made our service available to all of our users at no financial cost to them, and we hope to continue in this manner. We thank you for your continued support, and we understand how inconvenient it is to many of you that our service is currently offline. Unfortunately at this point in time, the situation is out of our control. We need to plan and investigate new hosting options. Thank you again, Flexage TheGamesDB I will be happy to contribute to the community database as long as I have Internet connection. I just have a question: can the same thing happen to our database if the community grows a lot and the hosting costs become unaffordable?
