Ize
So after annoying Jason and probably everyone else via E-Mail a while ago, i finally managed to purchase my lb-license via bitcoin. As i'm located in germany and don't have, nor do i want a credit card, i was out of luck with the current payment system and i'm not a fan of bitcoin tbh. But since that was my only option, i finally verified my account to a bitcoin shop (send in ID front /back, telephone verification, etc ARGH...), then i had to verify my account again to my bank for giropay since that was the only decent payment option the bitcoin shop had (WHY NO PAYPAL, WHY DOESN'T ANYONE OFFER PAYPAL?! ) Anyway, so after getting through this mess, i opened a bitcoin wallet and transferred 50,- € in btc to it. So now i could buy launchbox, right? NOPE! Sign in to stripe, scan the code, INSUFFICENT FUNDS... WTF? $ < € so it should have worked. My luck: BTC price dropped just as i was to make the purchase and my funds + transaction fee then exceeded the cash in my bitcoin wallet ... FML So i put up another 30,- € (minimum amount allowed!) to my bitcoin wallet and FINALLY purchased launchbox. And now i have about +- 27,77 € in my bitcoin wallet that i can hopefully sell again O_o Stripe Sucks, Bitcoin sucks, giropay sucks and transaction fees suck. But i finally have my launchbox license which is great. Sorry for the wall of text but this was way more complicated than it should be. Jason Carr
Thanks for going through all that trouble, @Izegod, I know Bitcoin can be a royal pain. Unfortunately PayPal is pretty much scum of the earth, and they wouldn't let us use them even if we wanted to. Details are here: Glad you're all set.
Ize
Yeah finally. Thanks
Zeromod
Paypal are hardly the "Scum of the earth". The environment that Paypal operates in is a very complicated one. At the end of the day, it really boils down to risk management and Paypal is considerably larger than Unbroken Software is. Therefore, it's an easy call for them to lose this business as opposed to potential involvement in a litigation process. I get that you guys are upset that you have lost them as a payment option but I really wish we would keep it professional here.
Lordmonkus
I wouldn't call them "scum of the earth" as much as I would call them "uninformed morons" that think because something is a tool for people who use emulators it is "illegal". Jason Carr
To be honest, I've seen so many "little guys" screwed by PayPal that I do not feel they deserve any respect as a company at all. Our company stance on the matter is that we feel it's our duty to inform the general public of PayPal's poor business practices. There was never any risk of litigation for them, simply a lack of caring, understanding, and effort, which is a common situation for everyone from eBay sellers to all kinds of small companies. "Scum of the earth" is in fact a very accurate description of PayPal, and you don't have to look very far to see why. http://www.avclub.com/article/paypal-fined-25-million-shady-business-practices-219735 http://bgr.com/2015/05/20/paypal-credit-scam-25-million/ http://www.alternet.org/story/153474/how_pay-pal_squeezes_merchants_with_unfair_and_likely_illegal_business_practices
Zeromod
I think that as a business owner yourself, you will need to learn to develop a bit more emotional intelligence. Your statement could be perceived as an insult to employees at Paypal who may also agree with your sentiment and may also be paying customers. Again, I don't think anyone would begrudge you for pointing people to different service providers, but at the end of the day you don't have any real reason to be so emotional about it. I mean, it would be different if you were truly taking some sort of moral stance here. Heck, I'd even respect that more on a personal level. But that isn't the case because if they were to have accepted a rebuttal (or if there were never a need for one in the first place) and kept you as a business partner we would still be paying via Paypal and these comments and links that are painting them as immoral, shady, scum wouldn't be here would they? A simple, this is absurd in our opinion > link to the paypal terms and we recommend not supporting this company would have sufficed.
Jason Carr
PayPal's poor business practices have nothing to do with emotional intelligence; they're simple facts. We're going to have to agree to disagree on this subject, @Zeromod. I appreciate your thoughts, but I find informing the general public of shady business practices to be much more important than pure "professionalism" and political correctness. Zeromod
Jason, your response is where emotional intelligence comes into the picture here. It's clear that on this topic you are "emotionally hijacked". It's disappointing to see from my end that you would decide that the best way to "inform the general public" is to speak in terms that you are. But I'll agree, we are probably best to just leave this where it is.
Jason Carr
To be frank, @Zeromod, I'm hesitant to say it, but claiming that others are "emotionally unintelligent" is a blatant sign of a lack of emotional intelligence to begin with. That pretty much came out of left field, and that's not something that anyone is going to appreciate hearing. My suggestion would be to stop mounting high horses. Zeromod
Jason, my intention was not to be offensive and I'm sorry that you see it as that. Again, I think we can just leave this conversation where it is. With my apologies.
