angelobodetti
Hi Guys, hoping someone can help me out. I have a full MAME list (mess) romset and bios set. I've downloaded MAME 0.185. I cannot seem to get rca studio 2 working alone, through LaunchBox or RocketLauncher. Mame will open but immediately close. This makes me think I have a bios issue. Is there a folder structure I need to follow? I have the roms in their own folder and I put the MAME list roms in the roms folder of MAME. I've also added the rca studio 2 roms directory and my MAME arcade roms directory. Not sure what I'm missing. any help is appreciated. DOS76
Can you open them directly from inside of MAME's built in UI
DOS76
Under Manage Emulator do you have Don't use quotes and use file names only checked MESS doesn't work if they are checked.
angelobodetti
ok so ive checked those boxes and i added studio2 -cart to the command line in launchbox - it launches a game but i get this jittery mess.

angelobodetti
Ultimately i want to to run in RocketLauncher because i like fades and bezels - but i cant even get it to run standalone so i need to fix that issue first then get it running in launchbox then i can mess with rocketlauncher. I'm thinking i have a bios issue or folder structure issue
DOS76
by default I think that the software list games should be in folders named after what ever the command line uses inside of the default ROMs folder.
DOS76
you can always add a path to the ini file or from the built in UI
DOS76
I get the same results when launching from the UI just that weird screen for all games

DOS76
No I'm not saying that at all I'm saying it just has that weird screen that is all I got but I didn't try waiting.
angelobodetti
oh gotcha - i thought you had rca studio ii already working - so you're trying it now for the first time and have the same issues i do?
DOS76
Yeah I've never tried it before and I don't have it in LB or anything but I do have the software list rom set so I can test things from the UI fairly quickly
angelobodetti
I know some LB people have it running - hopefully one can chime in if they have it working. I have the same romset as you - i suppose its possible they are bad roms or they don't play nice with MAME for this system specifically. DOS76
My software list rom set is a little older actually but I doubt many things change about the game carts in MAME
SentaiBrad
I don't have my MAME rom set to check right now, or I would. X_X So a few things to remember, the rom set needs to be in your MAME/roms folder, or you tell it where the full package is. You'll also need to set up the associated platform default command line parameters like RetroArch, console name and command line. You may need to try a few different command lines. This depends on the system, but some have a few different kinds. You also don't need to use the software list rom sets if you have other rom sets, but I guess that depends on the system. Some systems may not have other rom sets, or in the case of CD-i I could only get it working with the CHD software list set.
angelobodetti
Thanks Brad - I did the command line studio2 -cart and it seems to work because MAME loads and loads the game, but then i get a flickering screen. I'm hoping someone who has rca studio ii up and running will chime in. I see it all over hyperspin setups so i know for a fact people get it to work. angelobodetti
I found this thread about the flickering screen and they say press f3 at the screen to clear it and then it should play. For me it makes a beep and goes black. http://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=102899
spycat
When your game loads to the flickering image, try pressing F3 and then press Q.
angelobodetti
no luck - f3 gets rid of the flickering but the screen goes blak. when i press q nothing happens. Does it matter if it have caps lock on and it is an upper or lowercase q? Do you have it up ad running in launchbox?
