Cody0
For emulating many CD systems, a cue sheet and disc image (and sometimes .bin's) are required. Is there a format that combines all bin/cue/iso ect. into 1 file that an emulator can read? Or a way to format the disc image so that it doesnt require a cue sheet? I tried .zip/.7z with the correct files inside but Retroarch wouldn't run it. Preferably I'd just want a raw file similar to .iso, rather than the hassle of a zipped file (loading times for unzipping large games). If this process varies vastly between systems, I'm mainly trying to do this for Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn. Thanks. DOS76
CHD is a format that doesn't require a cue sheet if you download them from somewhere like the MAME software list CHD set if you convert them yourself it requires them to have a working cue sheet I believe Also be sure to check that the emulator you wish to use supports the file type as not all do. JRPGod
For what it's worth, I recently went through the process of replacing all my ISO's to BIN/CUE for friendlier support with the mednafen systems, and the more accuracy-focused emulators get the more likely you are going to be to need the CUE/BIN formats in the future. Play around with zip, but DON'T convert all your bin/cue's to isos or something equally worse, that will only come to bite you in the ass. Suhrvivor
CHDs are the future, discs are already compressed in one file and current emulators can load them directly, so you don't have to wait until your zipped cue+bin disc images get decompressed each time you launch them or waste a lot of space in your hard drive storing them uncompressed. DOS76
Well although I've switched to CHD I know standalone Mednafen doesn't support them.
bundangdon
From what I've noticed, MAME and Retroarch both use CHD. Basically, what you're saying is that (with the exception of mednafen) there's no reason to use the cue/bin format?
Suhrvivor
No reason if the emulator you use supports chd. In my opinion, the emulators that support chd are the best option anyway for most platform. The only one that I find lacking it's the Redream core for Dreamcast, haven't tried the standalone though.
